I've been scrapbooking seriously for about a year and would love to take advantage of all the great fonts, textures, etc of the computer. I purchased Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8 and find it easy to edit my digital photos but the layering has really got me stumped!

I get my layer palette showing open my different pictures, do some borders etc, but I can never see everything togther. I just see the different "layers" in the layer palette and nothing like a page layout. Obviously I'm not doing something or something wrong. I thought I was very computer literate since I use to be an IT person at an office 4 years ago. ( I hope old age isn't setting in already!)

Hopefully it is just a  "duh" moment. LOL Thanks!

Hello and welcome to DSP!

I have PSP and love it! Have you tried the Digital Scrapping 101 (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/Scrapping101/basics.shtml) in the University? its free and pretty basic, but it does have some good information. There is a tutorial that walks you through a very basic layout too right here (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/qc2.shtml). DSU also has a mentoring program (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/mentor.shtml) that might be helpful to you.

I am trying to visualize what you mean by only seeing the layers in the layer pallet. You don't have an open image in which you are laying out your page? I guess I am confused on that one. I am way to visual and reading doesn't always click with me, maybe show a screenshot of what you see.

Again, welcome!! hope this helps somewhat!

welcome! hopefully a psp user will pop in and help you better than i can. the main window you're working in is like a scrapbook table. the background is the bottom layer, then just stick stuff on top of it, mats, photos, elements, text... do you have something large on the top layer maybe that's hiding the rest of your layers? guessing here, i haven't mastered psp yet! :) just wanted to say hi! :)

Hello, I am also in Nebraska. (Central part of the state) It is so nice that you found this site. I think you will love the University, they have some great tutorials to help get you started. I am a photoshop user so I can't help you out much with Paint Shop Pro. I am just thrilled that another husker found this place!!!! (I guess I should not be shouting out GO BIG RED right now, they are not doing so great this year.)

Have a great day!!

Hi, and welcome! This is a great place full of helpful and friendly members. The computer makes scrapping so mess free, and the layouts look so good

For the problems with your layers, what can you see on your open image? Do you have more than one image open, or have you put all your page elements on one image? Check the little Eye icon next to the layer in your layers palette and make sure there's no Big Red X through it (Big Red is no good in PSP either, LOL!)
Make sure your large elements like background paper is on the bottom of the stack so you can see the smaller things on top. Resize any photots that are too large and covering up the things below them using the Deform Tool. Are you able to see anything at all on your open image?
Let us know if any of the suggestions work for you, and if not describe the problem very carefully so we can help more.
Also, my Intro to PSP class will be offered in January again, and that explains everything you need to know for your first year or so of scrapping, and makes several layouts. I just added a new section on working with layers, so that will be very helpful to you. Click the link in my signature line to check out the class descriptions
Again, welcome to DSP and the wonderful world of digital scrapping!
