Part of advancing to the next step in scrapping is to gear up your courage and share your art with the world! Well, at least share them with magazine and book editors. ;)

I'll be updating this thread regularly with current calls for publication. If you know of some I've missed, feel free to add them!

A few tips:

Most magazines ask that you only submit a certain number of layouts per call (usually no more than 5), BUT many magazines also have a general call for pages that don't fit a specific category. So, submit everything you have, you never know what they'll choose!

Make sure you check what size file they request. Some don't have a limit, but others have a limit of 100k, which is less than what DSP allows for uploads, so you may have to resave to a smaller file size.

When adding the credit information, feel free to add background info on the creative process you went through or further story behind the photo. Adding human interest information just may help get you noticed!

And don't forget, if you're published using DSP products, you win (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=539)!

Ready?? Let's go, DSP!! :yahoo:

Summer months are filled with fun. And it's the perfect opportunity to spend time making projects with and for the kids in your life. What creative summer-themed projects do you like to make with them? We'd love to see! Projects are open to anything--from layouts to games to learning books and more. We'd love to see ideas for children of all ages, too! We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Please e-mail scans or pictures of your layouts to editorial@creatingkeepsakes.com. Include "Kid Projects" in the subject line. When submitting your layout, please write your creative solutions for your project and include your supply list.

How do you celebrate summer? Show us your colorful, multi-photo (4x6 photos, please!) scrapbook pages showing all the creative ways you celebrate and scrapbook your summer memories.

We’re looking for pages that celebrate the essence of summer:

-backyard and close-to-home activities (barbecues, tree house adventures, etc.)

-the great outdoors (camping trips, water sports, fishing and boating trips, etc.)

Share details about any cool technique you've used on your page with three easy steps for recreating the look.

We want to see and share a variety of styles and inspiring ideas! So please submit scans of your pages to editorial@primedia.com. Include “SUMMER” in the subject line. If the journaling is illegible in your scan, please include the text in your e-mail.

Would you like to submit a layout for the "Becky's Sketch" column in Creating Keepsakes? You can! Becky Higgins designs a thumbnail sketch and creates a layout based on it. Several other scrapbookers follow the same format and create a layout with their own theme, pictures and journaling.

http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/images/submit_ideas_images/21_image.jpg

Here’s how you can be involved:

1. Select a sketch from those pictured here and, using it as a guide, create a well-executed, memorable layout to submit to CK. Please note: These sketches are for our November and December 2007 issues. You aren’t required to use seasonal pictures, but they are a plus.

Use solid-colored cardstock, patterned paper or textured paper—whatever works best for your layout. Choose the page size (8 1/2" x 11" or 12" x 12") you prefer. You can scrapbook black-and-white or color photos—it doesn't matter.

NEW!: We're now publishing single pages inspired by one side of the sketch as well. Let's see what you can do!

Looking for past Becky sketches? Visit www.creatingkeepsakes.com/sketches!

2. Special Instructions

November 2007: The title block for this layout fits right along with the 4 vertical photos. Include all of your journaling on a strip going down the left page and a strip of smaller photos that goes across the two pages. Due April 16, 2007.

December 2007: The enlargement on the left page is balanced with several smaller pictures on the right page of this layout. Notice how the enlargement is part of one, large block that also includes the title and journaling for the layout. The 3 strips going from the left to right page are just to help visually tie everything together. Due May 14, 2007.

3. When your layout is complete, e-mail an electronic version to editorial@creatingkeepsakes.com. Be sure to include "Becky's Sketch" in your subject line. Note: Attached files MUST be less than 300K. Include a supplies list for the layout as well.

New Zealanders and Australians may be interested in submitting to For Keeps magazine. Their calls for the July issue (deadline 9 March) are:
- Double Page Layouts
- Winter
- Off the Page
- Twins
- Patterned Papers

I believe that For Keeps usually asks for layouts previously unpublished so if you are thinking of submitting, don't post your layout to an on-line gallery (like DSP).
Send submissions to submissions@pridepublishing.co.au
Put the name of the theme in the subject line. If you submit for more than one theme, put each in a separate email. Image to be approx 150kb or below.

Submission deadline - February, 2007 (There doesn't seem to be a specific date listed, so possibly they're due by 28 Feb?)

To be published in Scrapbooking Memories submit layouts that showcase innovative interpretation of the following themes.

No photos: Not all of our memories have photos to reflect them. Try scrapping a page using your journalling, memorabilia or other techniques to tell the tale.

Fabric: Find fresh new ways to incorporate fabric elements into your layouts.

At work: Scrap a page about what you do, where you work or even the people you work with.
Men: Scrap a masculine page about the special men in your life – why you love them, their favourite pastime, saying or anecdote, or just about who they are.

Monograms: Find some innovative new ways to use monograms on your layouts.

Simply email a digital photo or scan to Technical Editor, Krys Yealland at kyealland@expresspublications.com.au Please send a jpeg file that is no bigger than 1MB.

Deadline: 3/1/2007

Fashion Flashback
Do you remember your favorite party dress from childhood... the cute pair of jeans you wore all through high school... the bikini that caught your husband-to-be's eye at the beach? What about the darling sailor suit your son wore as a baby or the silk dress your mother pulled out of the closet for every night out with your dad? We're looking for layouts that celebrate the link between special clothes and special memories. Whether it's a purse or a prom dress, a necklace or a necktie, show us the role fashion has played in shaping your life. Send us your design-conscious digital layouts with journaling that tells the story behind your favorite fashion-related memories. Submissions are due no later than Thursday, March 1.

Please submit all work saved as high-quality JPEG files, no larger than 100K each, and include complete materials lists for all. We also ask that you submit each layout in a separate email. Please submit no more than five such emails per call category.

Kick It Up
Calling all tech-savvy scrappers! We're looking for layouts featuring intermediate- to advanced-level techniques with clear step-by-step instructions to inspire our readers. Send us your layouts and instructions no later than Thursday, March 1. Please note that layouts submitted for this call can only be considered if they include complete tutorial instructions and a full materials list that includes your application and any third party filters (actions, textures, brushes etc.) that you used. Look below to see the kind of step-by-step information we're looking for.

SAMPLE TUTORIAL Option 1: Step-By-Step
1. Working in a copy of the original photo file, duplicate the Background layer to create a new, unlocked layer for editing the photo.
2. In the Layers palette, click the Adjustment Layer button (it looks like a divided circle) and select Gradient.
3. Adjust the gradient to the desired angle.
4. Move the photo layer just above the gradient layer. From the Layers menu, select Group With Previous (or hit Ctrl-G; Cmd-G on a Mac).
5. Copy and paste the new semi-transparent photo into your layout. Here, you can experiment with different blend modes or opacity levels to get a variety of looks.

Option 2: Describe and Inspire
I placed the curved photo frames first, then positioned a photo on a layer behind each frame. Using the Magic Wand tool, I selected the interior of each frame, then inverted the selection by clicking Select > Inverse. With the selection border still active, I clicked on the photo layer in the Layers palette, then pressed Backspace to delete all areas of the photo not inside the frame. After merging the frame and photo layers, I was ready to proceed with my design.

Please submit all work saved as high-quality JPEG files, no larger than 100K each, and include complete materials lists for all. We also ask that you submit each layout in a separate email. Please submit no more than five such emails per call category.

You submit it and see if it is accepted Chris. Magazines choose layouts for all kinds of reasons (the techniques they show, product, colour, journalling etc) so it pays to submit and see what happens. If you submit to a specific call read the requirements carefully.

I have what just may be a silly, silly, question. When I think of Scrapbook Trends, I don't think of digital. Referring to Meg's Feb 27 post for layouts due April 10th, are they actually looking for digital layouts? Hybrid? Or is this a case of "send it in and they may decide that they want to look at a digital layout"? Thanks ahead of time, I would love to submit a couple for these topics, but I left behind paper soon after finding DSP! :-) Jenni

Jenni, I send my pages to all magazines, paper or digital. Most paper mags now include some digital pages in every issue. And many request them (I know BHG Scrapbooks Etc. specifically calls for them in their general call).

Never hurts to send them in!

What layouts do you create that represent January for you? Do you scrapbook holiday photos? Last year's photos? Your resolutions? A recap of last year? Do you work ahead on gift projects for the upcoming year? Are there special winter traditions or events that you always scrapbook?

We are considering the layouts and projects sent to this call for our columns, such as Reader Gallery, and articles in the January 2008 issue. We would love to see double-page submissions featuring 4 x 6 photos. If you featured any cool techniques on your page, please explain that in your e-mail. Never been published in CK or a CK special issue before? Mention that in your e-mail as well.

Please submit your layouts to editorial@creatingkeepsakes.com. Include "January” in the subject line. If the journaling is illegible in your scan, please include the text in your e-mail. The deadline for this request is August 3, 2007.

Call for Winter Photos
What photos do you take during the winter season? Are you indoors or outdoors? Playing sports or celebrating your January winter traditions?

E-mail low resolution (no larger than 300K) digital photos to editorial@creatingkeepsakes.com by Monday, August 6, at 5 p.m. Please put “Winter photos” in your subject line. If we choose your photos, we will contact you for a high-resolution version.

The deadline for this call is August 6, 2007 .

Call for Winter Projects
What types of projects do you make during the winter (i.e., mini albums, home decor, etc.) either as gifts or for yourself? Are there projects you make for your friends? Your child's classmates? We'd love to consider your projects for publication in an issue early next year.

Please submit photos of your creations to editorial@creatingkeepsakes.com. Include "Winter Projects” in the subject line. If the journaling is illegible in your scan, please include the text in your e-mail. The deadline for this request is August 6, 2007, at 5 p.m. MST.

Call for Winter Scrapbook Pages
What are your winter traditions, preparations, parties and festivities? What activies or events do you scrapbook in January? We’re looking for layouts that capture the season for the entire family -- adults, children, pets.

Please submit your layouts to editorial@creatingkeepsakes.com. Include "Winter Pages” in the subject line. If the journaling is illegible in your scan, please include the text in your e-mail.

The deadline for this request is August 6, 2007, at 5 p.m. MST.

Becky's Sketch
Would you like to submit a layout for the "Becky's Sketch" column in Creating Keepsakes? You can! Becky Higgins designs a thumbnail sketch and creates a layout based on it. Several other scrapbookers follow the same format and create a layout with their own theme, pictures and journaling.

Here’s how you can be involved:

1. Select a sketch from those pictured here and, using it as a guide, create a well-executed, memorable layout to submit to CK. Please note: This sketch is for our February 2008 issue.

2. Special Instructions

February 2008 instructions: This layout design allows you to enlarge one of your favorite pictures to add drama and impact. Include your title and journaling below this enlargement and then a few more standard (or slightly cropped) photos on the right page. Due August 10, 2007.

So bookmark the entire forum in order to keep up with all the calls. I just listed a bunch the other day!
