Tina,
The book is so inspiring. Back in the day when to win contests you had to come up with clever slogans or neat jingles not put your name on a sheet of paper and wait for a call. She entered so many contests and won tons of prizes..but the cool part was that her family wasn't a well to do family everythig she won they needed. Especially b/c her husband was a alcoholic and spent his whole paycheck on booze. AND SHE HAD 10 KIDS!!!
the whole title is: The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio: How My Mother Raised 10 Kids on 25 Words or Less

I read it in 1 weekend cuz i couldn't put it down GREAT READ!!

FYI: Overstock has got it for 8.89 plus 1.40 for shipping = $10.29
Which is lower than amazon's base price & you will have to pay shipping if you don't order other times totally $25 or more. Sorry if you didn't want to hear this but I love saving $$

Amanda

My fav is cookies and cream. The absolute best Cookies and Cream ice cream (and believe me...i've tasted them all!) is from the Brigham Young University Creamery! It is sooooooo good. We lived across from the creamery when I was prego with Taylor. We went through a half gallon every 2-3 days. Both dh and I gained a lot of weight during that pregnancy!

My favorites..

I don't have a favorite Movie. I like all kinds of movies. Depends on my mood.

I don't have a favorite book either.. I used to read all the time, lately I can't seem to get interested in reading at all. I like mystery suspense type books, I can't stand romance novels.

My favorite ice cream is vanilla w/ caramel syrup. (kinda boring I guess, lol)

Okay, I have to catch up here:

Movies:

Have so many, but seem to like either really freaky ones or action adventure; which include: The Ring, All of the Matrixes, Lord of the Rings series, Harry Potter...I could go on, but it would be never ending...LOL.

Books---That is easy, I am a suspence, thriller kind of gal. Anything by James Patterson (ie, Kiss the Girls and Along came a spider), Patricia Cornwell...just got finished reading her book Blow Fly....awesome as usual.

Ice cream--another easy one....chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate..hehe. Plain chocolate and fudge brownie chocolate. Can you tell I like chocolate? :D

So....swuuusshshh, I think I am caught up, when is the next new question?

Well, we are landlocked here in Ohio (unless you count Lake Erie, but that is like 6 hrs away from us, on the other end of the state!), so of course we love the beach!!!!

We have a tie between:

The Outer Banks of North Carolina (where we are going back to in June.... YAY!!!!! can't wait to get to that beach house!!! We rented one sound front this year!)

and

Ogunquit, Maine (ever heard of it? I didn't think so!! pronounced just as it is spelled O-gun-quit). Those Maine villages are all SO quaint and adorable!! Ogunquit is near Kennebunkport, which I know all American's have heard of, being the summer home of the Bush's (yes, we saw it, and yes, George Sr was there, they fly a flag if he is home).

Best Vacations for me...

1. Mall of America - ok not much of a vacation spot but it's where hubby and I honeymooned (and believe it or not it was his idea :p )

2. Cozumel Mexico - spent New Years Eve there in 2000 and are going back this New Years as our pre-5 year anniversary.

3. Michigan Motor Speedway - We spend 5 days camping out and going to the NASCAR races and are already geared up to go for this year and we don't go til August, lol.

My fav is Hawaii! I've been 3 times and I absolutely love it. The last time was the best because I was with people who had all been before so we didnt' "have" to do the touristy things and I just layed out by the pool and on the beach all day every day! Ahhh

I like Las Vegas! I just love the view of the mountains there -- many years ago I went a couple of times with my Mom -- and two years ago I got to go with my daughter. Great bonding.

The only two movies my DH has taken me to are Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men -- and we still enjoy seeing them on TV. Right now my favorite book seems to be the Paint Shop Pro manual. And I like New York Vanilla ice cream with some toffee swirls.

Favorite ice cream? Rocky Road. And not the fancy gourmet kind with almonds and I-don't-know-what they do to the marshmellows. Just plain, store-brand (if I can't get Baskin-Robbins!) Rocky Road.

Favorite vacation? England. I've been twice and need to start saving to go again. Bath is simply charming and needs more than an afternoon and I could visit London 1/2 dozen times and not see everything I want to!

What is your favorite thing about each season?

Tina
04-22-2004, 07:05 AM
Spring- I love seeing the grass turn green again, the flowers pop up, the smell of fresh turned earth (when they plow the fields)

Summer- I love that Tate can go outside and play all day, get wet, go swimming, that he gets so grubby dirty every day, but he comes out shiny clean from the tub, the smell of cut grass, vacation and no school!

Fall- is my favorite season, I love thanksgiving, crisp air, leaves crunching under my feet, weenie roasts and hayrides, and the sheer beauty of it.

Winter- I love to see snow falling from the sky, blanketing the ground (for a while anyway!), snow days, cocoa, snuggling by the fire, and Christmas! (i'm a fool for Christmas!).

Ok------ you don't have to be as long winded as me, but feel free to if you want!

Well guess what they (some national survey company) came out with a statistic saying Atlanta is #1 for the highest pollen counts...and get this Augusta is #2. I'll try to look past our huge pollen issue when I think about spring & summer.

Spring- When i think of spring i think of warm weather not too hot not too cold so in Atlanta we have about hmmmm 5 days tops of spring...I enjoy not having to have my A/C blasting keeping the windows open & actually going outside :)

Summer- HmMMMM I LOVE TRAFFIC!!! Much smoother during summer vacation when the buses aren't out & about.

Winter- Although I like snow Atlanta maybe gets a couple inches each season. Which is okay with me b/c people in ATL don't know how to drive in it. When I lived in Ohio & Kansas the winters were much more fun!!

Fall- Hmmm....I like when all the school supplies are in the stores. :-) I lOVE OFFICE SUPPLIES--- I know I'm a dork :)

andrea
04-22-2004, 07:16 AM
In the spring, I love to have the windows open and the front door open (with a full length screen door). I love to see the kids playing at the park after being cooped up all winter.

In the summer, nothing beats the expression on my kids' faces the first time they get to swim in the pool. Pure happiness!

We have beautiful falls here in Missouri! I love to see the rolling hills covered with so many different colors.

When winter comes, I love to be all toasty warm inside, playing Christmas music, the smell of something baking in the oven. Just feels really cozy.

Spring---Love the flowers even though my sinuses hate them. :D I love the fact that most days are cool or just warm enough to be comfortable. No extreme heat.

Summer---Its beautiful, flowers in full bloom, gardens flourishing, swimming, and having fun with the kids on school break.

Fall---basically same as spring, except with the changing leaf colors, its just plain gorgeous.

Winter--Not much I like about it, except the pretty, undisturbed snow. Oh, and it is much easier to get warm, by putting on layers, than trying to get cool in the summer...LOL.

Here in Southern California, we don't have seasons! We have shorts weather, and sweater weather. I prefer sweater weather :)

Pam
04-22-2004, 04:41 PM
Spring means the first Oriole will be looking for grape jelly (ALWAYS on May 1st), there is no snow to shovel, the goldfinches are fighting at the feeder, and the brown trees are getting a beautiful green glow. And as long as the river stays in it's banks, all are at ease.

Summer means trips to the sand bar in the pontoon -- the kids swim and build sand castles and the adults visit and relax. Neighbors are in their yards and we get reacquainted.

Fall is beautiful on the river, but also sad as nature removes the beauty of flowers and greenery and the laundry basket is fuller as sweats replace shorts and tshirts.

Winter is serene -- there is a magical quiet after the river freezes -- and many of the weekenders close up for the season, leaving those uf us who live here a peaceful few months.

oh, I forgot me again...

my current fav is Dove, but has actually been for about a year, which is a REALLY REALLY REALLY long time for me to like a shampoo!! I've tried others in between (like Garnier Fruticis (sp)- couldn't resist that bright green bottle).. but have been going back to Dove.

andrea
04-25-2004, 05:00 PM
Tina,
You can get ABBA products at a salon or someplace like Beauty Brands. You can also do a search on the internet. I'll see if I can find a site for them and see if there are any samples available. ;)
The ABBA Scentsation line has this great intensive conditioner that tingles your scalp and smells like mint. It makes your head feel so good! Check your local $1 shop, too, I have stumbled upon miscellaneous tubes of ABBA products at ours, like a conditioning balm and straightening balm. Excellent find. I just bought some Mossimo Tea Tree shaving lotion (for your legs :p )there that is just awesome.

Another one of my favorite warm weather things...is being able to decorate my home with bright colors and fresh flowers! I also love being able to have the windows open and a fresh breeze flowing through the house.

I also like being able to wear more springy-summer colored clothing. I love seeing all the leaves on the trees & birds chirping in the morning is too cool.

They may be related to the Popples, but I've never heard of them.

There were also these small fashion dolls, like 6" high. I don't remember what they were called, anyone?

My fav thing of all tho, was the tire swing in the yard and the hay loft in the barn. Not really a "toy" but what I spent the most time playing/reading in!

I forgot about CPK, I thought they were just the best thing! Had a CPK Koosa, too. Oh, and there were those dolls about the size of Strawberry Shortcake dolls, except they were fairies.
Hey, Tina, these 6 inch dolls: were they really really skinny, like a 1/2 an inch thick? With evening gowns on? I had two like that, don't know what they were called though.

Favorite toys huh? Oh my, I was a definite Barbie fanatic, up until I was well into my teens.

Favorite childhood toys:
Breyer horses.
My dolls and their stuffed animals (each doll had her own)
Books!
Barbies

In the summer, my sisters and I also had lots of fun with "found objects." You can carve an oak ball using an oak twig and turn it into an indian pot to hold grain and "dried buffalo" (no idea what that plant really was, but it was a great dk rust brown color.) If you're at grandpa's, they also make neat little boats with a twig mast and a big leaf for a sail.

Me I remember matchbox cars and tons of sand roads. We used to sit for hours as well at a friends house (about 9 or 10 of us) and play board games. One of the guys had polio so it was always at his place, didn't know we were all so nice until long after he was gone. Funny the strangest memories we can dredge up eh!! (for you non Canadians)

My *current* favorite episode, or sketch, rather, of Saturday Night Live is the cowbell sketch. Christopher Walken was the host, and it was a parody of the studio recording of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper". Will Farrell is playing the cowbell, and the producer just can't get enough. Farrell's wearing this really short shirt, and the louder he gets, the more he starts dancing and gyrating and the shirt starts riding up. I roll on the floor every time I see it.

"I got a FE-ver. [pause] And the only pre-SCRIP-tion. [pause] is more COW-bell."

You can view it here (http://www.fleetmack.com/downloads/cowbell.wmv)

Is this for movies or shows? I must have gotten my wires crossed. The only show I get to watch is Sesame Street (16 mo. old daughter makes me sit and watch with her). Other times I'm going, doing, cleaning, computing...working! Supposed to be doing now, ooopss.

I couldn't find a decent picture of my favorite show which is Little House on the Prairie. We don't watch any current shows because we don't have cable anymore, but we have Little House dvd sets seasons 1-4!! Whenever I want to curl up with popcorn and watch tv, that's what I'll be watching.

Tina,I see you are an ER fan, do you remember the woman who played Chloe Lewis? (She was the sister of the dr. played by Sherry Springfield) I actually met her at the Santa Barbara Zoo! I can count the number of times I'd seen that show on one hand, and I recognized her from somewhere, but wasn't sure where. She was walking around with her two kids and I was standing right next to her and said hello, you look familiar to me, are you on tv? (or something to that effect) she smiled politely, very humbly said yes. I said ER? she again said yes. I asked her name and she sweetly said my name is Kathleen. Then we talked a little about kids and babies- She is such a sweet and humble person, I never would have thought that from her drug addict character on ER!!!!

We did fav tv shows already ;)

Sorry girls, I've been busy... Whoever wants to can post the question of the day, Liz did it once, I'm fine with that :)

My fav epi of ER is a tie btwn "Loves Labor Lost" guest starring Bradley Whitford and the finale 2 yrs ago when Carter and Abby FINALLY kissed.......

I DO remember the woman who played Chloe, she has a very distinct look about her. She's been in a couple movies I've seen too, Pay it Forward and The Color of Night. How cool you met her! :D

Hey guys! What about the next favorite being our Favorite filter/plugin?
I'm always curious about what people are using to do the things they do on their layouts.

Just name your favorite and why you like it it so much :D Is it the one you always go back to? Does it do the coolest effect but you never have a use for it?

===========
Well mine isn't too special but I really like eyecandy's drop shadow filter it is soooo easy to use!! I like also that the settings are retained so when I am working on a layout I can apply the same drop shadow on all the items I want.

I like Blade Pro. I got the original version years ago because I couldn't afford eye candy for bevels. I love all the different textures you can apply with this. You can save your presets and share them too.

I don't use any plug ins, but the filter that I like in DIP the most is called "Dark Foil". I go in and mess around with the advanced options until it gets a "grungy" look :)

My favorite holiday is Christmas! I love to get together with my family and spend time with each other and open presents. I love Christmas decorations, Christmas lights, and winter! I also love Christmas dinner especially my Grannys dressing! It is the best!
