View Full Version : First try at this photoshop stuff.
I read the tutorial on first pages and although I can't find a way to get texture on my background, I think it came out okay. I left a space for the picture from Yankee magazine to go in, but I wanted to make a tag to cover its pocket. I wanted to try and digitally do one before reverting back to the old paper method. Check out my page please and give me suggestions.
Looks like you're getting it! Photos, color, words, all the good stuff
So, you want to print this and put a paper pocket on it, or you want to add a digital pocket to slice and insert a magazine cover? Let us know what you'd like to do, and we'll walk you through. That's why we're here!
Also, let us know what kind of trouble with Texture you had. There are as always a couple of ways.
First, double click on the background layer in the Layers Palette to change it from a locked background to a normal layer. Then go to Filters>Texture>Texturizer and pick something from there. That's the easiest way.
Keep it up, looking forward to seeing more. Those are gorgeous photos
When I click on the toolbar at the top for filter, there is no texture option. I can't find anything but a bubble pattern in patterns too.

Under filters texture texturiser you should have a small drop down menu with a few textures such as canvas, sandstone etc - these come standard with ps7
Lauren,
I must be blind because I can't find that. My tool bar has last filter, noise, blur, pixelate, sharpen, stylize, other. Is it possible that I deleted them without knowing?
Are you using v7? You're missing a lot of them...maybe you have v5 or 6
The only way to delete them is from the plugins folder, not in Photoshop.
The list is
artisitc
blur
brush strokes
distort
noise
pixelate
render
sharpen
sketch
stylize
texture (with Texturizer)
other
video
When you only have Bubbles for a texture, are you looking in the Paint Bucket Tool options bar? Or are you in the Layer Styles dialog under Pattern overlay? Where are you finding Bubbles?
when in the pattern drop down menu, Click on the circle with the little black trianlge/arrow in it to open the list of other options (it's small, on the top right of the menu)
Artistic Surfaces
Color Paper
Grayscale Paper
Nature patterns
and several more groups
Let us know if you see any of these, or we'll help you find them
Don't worry, PS is a wonderfully versatile program. After you get comfortable with the basics, it'll be fun to explore new options. Don't get frustrated, you're not in a race. Just calmly look around and see what you find, there will always be a new surprise!

Ok well texture is under stylize - sounds like there are some missing but Im not sure how that might have happened- you are using ps 7 right?????- cause there are others missing too like render and distort - are you trying to do this on a layer that is a a background - if so - you need to duplicate the background layer and work on the duplicated layer as it will now be a true layer - maybe that will work
Ok well texture is under stylizeLauren, are you keeping v7 installed? I find that I'm beginning to keep all my older versions as I upgrade because I can't remember stuff to answer questions! CS must have moved Texture to its own filter, but now I vaguely recall it wasn't before!
I need to go reinstall v7, but I have PSP 8 & 9, PSE 2 & 3, my HD is getting full!

No I dont have it installed Emma but I do know that texture and render were there just like in cs- so there is something wrong with that list!!!
It's v7.0
When you couldn't help me find it, I decided to reinstall, figuring that somehow I deleted these. Sure enough texture is now in there. I went ahead and added the texture to the background. Wow!
Thanks for your help.
