This is the weekly challenge for T42.
The past week we focused on black and white photos and the winner of this weeks contest was Greensleaves for her lovely page Archway (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=171494&cat=2621)- congratulations Jill, as soon as I have my next item ready for the store you will receive it to try out before it is on the shelf :)
This week we introduce a touch of colour to our photos - some example to inspire you -

Although it looks difficult, its really a very simple technique if you use a layer based program. The way I do it in Photoshop:
~ Open the photo you want to use and SAVE IT AS A COPY, don't work on the original.
~ Duplicate the layer, so you have the same photo on layer 1 and layer 2.
~ Change the top layer to b&w (or sepia).
~ Put a layer mask on this layer, click the little layer mask icon on the bottom of the layers palette. If you are using a program which does not have masks, skip this step - if you have masks use them, it makes the process so much easier!
~ Now, working on the b & w layers mask (click on it to be sure you are using the mask NOT the layer) and using a soft brush and BLACK paint away the areas that you want to be coloured - the hat the scarf, the eyes.... If you make a mistake, use white to paint the b & w back.
~ If you don't have masks, use your eraser to erase the b & w layer to reveal the colour below, but work slowly and carefully, erasing is final and cannot be undone if you go too far.
~ Once you are finished and happy you can save your masterpiece as a .psd file so you can come back to it later if you wish.
~ To use your new photo, flatter the layers and treat like any other photo.
I did find a tutorial for DIP here (http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/dip_bwwcolor_as.shtml).
I am sure there are many other ways to do this - please post here if you have other ideas - we'd love to hear!
I look forward to a gallery full next week :) the winner will recieve a new product to test, from me, rules are simple - for T42 you MUST use my products from the store (not freebies) - plase give the store link in your description.
Good luck :)
