Who wants to fandango??! I've got these two overlays that you can use... You can have them right up front to spice up a layout, or use with your challenge assignment.

http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/data/835/05_O_Edge_Flourishes.jpg (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/freebies/05_O_Edge_Flourishes.zip)

I was thinking that it would be a great time to work on some journaling!!! Me included!

No groaning allowed, but let's practice our journaling for a week! Every day, I would like you to spend about 15 minutes writing. You can choose to write about something that happened to you today, or you can pick a memory (funny, sad, happy, emotionally-provocative, whatever!). You can work on the same memory for a week, or you can pick something different each day. Record the who, what, when, where, and add some sensory information - like how your grandparents' house had this amazing smell that just transported you to a special feeling and place. Tell the story as if you were describing the event/memory to your kids, or to a special friend. You can be funny if you want, or serious...

I know that some of us have blogs, and we can put our blogs to use as we practice our journaling skills. If you don't have a blog, you can use just a word document. By next Sunday, though, I'd like to see at least 5 "journal entries" from you. You can create layouts with your journaling if you'd like - either with or without photos - but the thing I'd love to see us focus on for a week is our journaling/writing. You can post links to your blog if you do your journaling entries there, or you can post your journaling in this thread if you wish (either 5 separate "entries" or one post with all 5 - however you want to work it!).

Your reward for finishing at least 5 journaling entries (any length, but be sure to capture the essence of your memory!) is a new font! Hope you love it! :) :) You'll have to have at least 5 journaling entries either linked here in this thread or posted here in this thread (by Sunday 4/25/07) to be eligible for the font. :)

Are you getting any sleep Suzanne? My daughter just turned 6 so it hasn't been that long ago for me. I remember all too well the sleepless nights......for almost 2 years. ARGH. I feel like if a moma can get a good night's sleep, things go so much easier.
Hoping and praying that Charlie and your family are doing well, and you are getting some much needed shut eye Suzanne.
Good to see you back!

Entry# 1: I Won the Lottery!!! (http://vixen.blog.brunet.bn/2007/03/)

Note: This just reminded me again why I'm always too lazy to write - they take me way too long cos I tend to go on and on and on and on blah blah blah ad nauseum :D

Entry#2: Most memorable birthday party
My most memorable birthday would be my 16th birthday party, probably cos it's the ONLY proper birthday party I've ever had that I can remember. I got to invite some friends, my mum cooked up a small buffet, there was a birthday cake and I got presents. It wasn't anything at all special or unique but I was really happy and excited about it and it's about the only birthday that stuck out in my mind.

Entry# 3: Best Birthday Memory
Colin (then bf) surprised me with an overnight stay at a local luxury hotel. He'd secretly packed an overnight bag for me and after our usual celebratory dinner at the hotel restaurant, instead of going out the front door, he ushered me to the elevator instead. Unfortunately, the rest of the memory has to be censored

Entry# 4: Best Birthday Gift
On my birthday the first year we were together, Colin gave me a few birthday cards wrapped in gift paper as a present because he couldnt think of what to get me It was and still is my all time fave present though because he'd written a letter to me in the cards and ended with a marriage proposal in the last one. Unfortunately, I wasn't ready to say yes at the time but I was very touched, not only with the proposal but by the fact that he'd actually put pen to paper and written not 2 lines but several pages. btw, the next proposal I got a few years later (which I did accept ) was via SMS (mobile phone message) LOLOL

Entry# 5: Mon March 26 4.47 am
Sigh... feeling very blah... Coffee on the desk as usual, TV in the background, Colin & Mac are sleeping and Scamp's barking, probably at the neighbour's cat... Just finished browsing my wish list and checking the birthday forum. I should be scrapping as there are so many challenges closing soon but have been doing such icky LOs that I just can't get motivated to start... Camera's ready in case I can catch Colin & Mac in identical positions again. The batch I took the other night unfortunately didnt come out very well... We'll be going home again in a couple days time for Ching Ming, have to print out the packing list & and get started on Mac's packing tomorrow... Such a bummer Ching Ming falls on the same day as the birthday celebrations.. I'd stay back again like last year but with Tonette still away, Colin doesn't want us to be home alone.. I can't even console myself with the sale going on now, not with our budget being so tight after our CNY trip & with this upcoming one.... Oh! just got an idea! An absolutely BRILL idea!! I'll postpone my dental appointment till our next trip back in Sept and use a bit of that money for kits shopping instead :D The tooth can wait, heck, I've waited 2 years already anyway! Woohoo going off to the store now!

Best Birthday Gift
http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showpost.php?p=265665&postcount=48

well this is tough as I have been given 3 amazing gifts at various times from Donn the first yr we met and I flew to Texas for the first time so that we could actually meet face to face as up to that point we had just talked over the net an the phone. When I arrived at Amarillo Texas after being in transit or flying for 37 hrs straight I was so excited and nearly scared to death of whether the connection Donn and I shared online would survive the transistion into real life so it was 11.45pm when the plane touched down and I had to walk across the ground and up a flight of stairs to where Donn was waiting. He was also extremely nervous and very excited. Well we got our first glimpses of each other recognised one another immediately and then we smiled and the connection was real Donn and I grabbed on to each other and just hugged our legs were shaking so badly we found the closest seats to sit on and then Donn gave me the most beautiful most meaning ful gift ever it was a gold nugget in the shape of Texas on a beautiful gold chain. Almost 10 yrs later I never take it off literally I never remove it.

Best Birthday Memory

http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showpost.php?p=264921&postcount=14
It would have to be my 40th my olders daughters 21st, my youngestest daughters 16th and my mums 60th as they all happened in the same yr so we had one huge combined bday party to celebrate we had this massive cake with all that writtten on it and then on the bottom of the cake was and congratulatiosn to Ray (my dad) for surving all of the above) we had a total blast we played music danced served finger foods all night and everyone there just had the best tiem and my dad made the most wonderful speech when we cut the cake.

My dream Birthday Party
http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showpost.php?p=264915&postcount=26

my dream birthday party would be at Burgers Lake Fort Worth Texas and ALL my family and friends from Australia would be there as wellas all Donn's family and friends and then we would surprise everyone by getting married so have a combined bday wedding party and as for food well we have a wonderful barbeque with all the trimmings and Donn's friend Rick would have his band playing live music and we would have horse shoe toss game happening and ppl could go swimming.

My fourth is from my blog
My Favourite thing to wear
I love wearing my jeans and seems every now and again I buy a pair that I love even more than usual and that happened on my most recent trip to Texas. I got myself a real genuine pair of boot leg Levis and I just adore them and from the second I tried them on in Kohls I just loved them they made me feel GOOD GOOD GOOD. Now when it was time for me to come home from Texas I had too much stuff to go in my suitcase so I decided to mail by sea some stuff home and I figured seeing it was summer I wouldnt need my jeans............ well finally 8 weeks later the box arrived last week I immediately took my jeans out and put them on in an instant it felt like I was back at Kohls trying them on for the first time I felt so good in them.
Its like in them I feel like myself all day at work we are not allowed to wear denim of any kind so I am in a more professional style of clothing button up shirts dress pants etc but then I put my jeans on and its bliss.

And my last is also from my blog
My Motto
What would your motto would be for the place you're at in your life right now? Is it different than it would have been five years ago? 10? 20?

wow good thought provoking prompt with so many emotional things going on in my life right now I really feel like I am on the brink of many changes.

So maybe my motto needs to be "embrace change" so as too try and keep it in perspective that just because things are changing it doesnt have to mean that its a negative.

Like for example my oldest daughter Carli is looking for a place to move out and it completes excites me but at the same time terrifies me. Thoughts of what if I never get to see her anymore go through my mind which is silly I know as I willget to see her.

I am also wanting to change jobs but after almost 9 yrs of the smae place that is really scary.

Also with Donn's health problems I feel like nothing will ever be the same again and I really dont know how to begin to deal with that.

Anyways need to remind myself "embrace change".

Yeah!! I did it!! I don't have a blog so I just kept a Word-Doc going this week. I journalled about the first thing that popped into my head each time I sat down to intentionally 'journal'. Just random thoughts and not all that interesting to others. But it was actually more fun than I thought it would be. Thanks for the challenge, Suzanne. I enjoyed it!
_______________________
3/19/07 – I don’t journal. Not on paper anyway. I do journal all day in my head. Mostly it’s a lot of to-do lists. And often it’s prayer and praises. And sometimes it’s conversations that I’m planning to have or have had or wish I would have had or that I think would be funny to have. This journaling thing on paper is hard!

3/20/07 – I remember:
A little amusement park called Riverview! I can still hear the sound of the wooden-slats on the bridge as that Rambler Station wagon made its way into the dusty, all-rock parking lot. The rides were few – but seemed so big and ‘many’ to this grade-schooler! The Screaming Mouse was a fabulous sharp-turn roller-coaster ride. Almost every time I rode it, I was thankful that I was a Christian just in case the car would fly off and I would die in that parking lot. It didn’t take too much to get the adrenalin pumping when you were only 10 and having thoughts that you had had a ‘good life’!

3/21/07 – I remember:
Home-made ice-cream down at my grandparent’s farm! I can still see the dappled sunlight on the lawn and on the burly hands of my grandfather as he leaned over that wooden bucket and churned the handle of the ice cream maker. He sat perched on the edge of one of those aluminum lawn chairs with the white & green woven stripes. Each of the grandkids would get their turn at turning that handle. And each of us would claim it was just too hard. So Grandpa would go patiently back to work, churning, turning that handle.

3/23/07 – I remember:
Walking my daughter home from kindergarten. Little hand slips into Mommy’s hand. Little feet walk the same direction as Mommy’s feet. And a little girl shares stories of a world of primary colors and big block-y letters and playgrounds and first friends. It was a magical 15-minute walk each day.

3/24/07 – I remember:
The laughter of my mom and my aunt. Every family get-together included lots of love and laughter. But it was the ‘laugh-til-you-cry’ belly-laughing of those two women that make me smile today. I don’t remember the jokes or the actual events that started the laughter. I sometimes think they must have laughed their way through the Great Depression childhood they shared and that it just carried on over into the rest of their lives.

I'm a tad old-fashioned when it comes to journaling. I still have a paper journal that I write my entries in using a fountain pen. I want to preserve my handwriting because it tends to reflect my mood/place in life.

That said here are my last five entries typewritten...

3/19
What would your motto would be for the place you're at in your life right now? Is it different than it would have been five years ago? 10? 20?

The motto of my life now is difficult to pinpoint. I play so many different roles that to single them all into a few words is nearly impossible. Simply stated it will have to be, “Fulfilling each of my roles – mother, wife, friend, etc… - in a Christ-like way while growing spiritually.”

Five years ago, I was just beginning to rediscover God and the promises He has gracious blessed me with. I was a newlywed with no clue how to be married or coexist with another person in the house. I married after living alone for a decade. Adjusting to being in the house with another’s habits and way of life was difficult as was the realization that things were no longer mine alone, but someone else’s which we together shared equally.

Ten years ago, I was living strictly for myself. I had plenty of discretionary income and no real responsibilities other than my dog. I lived as I wanted, bought what I wanted, and answered to no-one.

There are so many must haves in my dream home that it’s going to be a task to narrow it down to one thing. Hummmm….I’ll have to say everything I want and dream of is what my dream home must have. My dream home is a eco-friendly home that relies on no commercial utilities except phone, cable, and internet. I do have to stay in touch and be entertained. I need to have plenty of space to garden and a pasture for raising animals for meat. As far as interior, plenty of natural materials such as wood and granite however it needs to be warm and inviting.

--Improvement
What's the one thing you would change about your current home? New bed, couch? New carpet or wallpaper? Or something major like an addition?
I would really like all the clutter to be gone and everything painted.

--Shows
Do you ever watch home improvement shows?
Before kids I watched them far more than now. I find watching them now makes me long for the time to take on projects I don’t have time for if I want to be with the kids. Money is another issue, since the kids pretty much consume all the discretionary income in the household budget.

Let's practice our descriptive writing skills. Write out, in detail, what you did for the last five minutes before you sat down at the computer. Now write a second paragraph about the same five minutes, but try to include even more details.

I stand in front of the warm blaze of the fireplace listening to the background sounds of the room – the gurgle of the aquarium, the hum of the gas lighting the fireplace, the music and chatter of the television. The heat burns into my aching body warming my stiff joints. I bend and stretch to make sure all my body is warmed by the red hot flames of the fireplace. I glance at the clock on the cable box and realize it is nearly time for bed especially since last night was really this morning before I went to bed. I turn the knobs on the fireplace extinguishing the warmth that a just moment ago was loosening my achy joints and muscles. I reach for the remote to silence the television while picking up my popcorn bowl and glass of iced tea.

My journey into the kitchen finds me paused at the aquarium to look in on our newest addition, a gorgeous royal blue betta the kids want to call handsome. I check the temperature since earlier I turned on the heater to take the chill off the water for our new friend. The temperature was low enough I decided to leave it on for a bit longer. I then move on to the sink which I find full of breakfast and dinner dishes. I clear the sink, loading the dirty dished into the dishwasher, and rinse out the sink. My next stop in the kitchen is the frig for a refill on my Orange Spice Iced Tea. I turn out the lights and walk up the stairs into the loft where I sit down and begin to type this entry into my journal.

Did you, or did you not, eat your vegetables as a youngster? What sorts of veggies will and won't you eat nowadays? Home garden grown, organic only, or anything goes?

Vegetables growing up meant tomatoes, green beans, cabbage, and sweet corn in harvested from our garden in the summer. I ate all of these will joy except the cabbage. I to this day and not a fan of cabbage except sauerkraut. I always got a second spoon of peas for declaring they were disgusting.

Nowadays, I will eat nearly any vegetable. I still have my favorites and those I could live without like cooked peas. I try to eat only home garden grown, co-op produce, or organic. I feel better feeding my family produce which I know has come from the least chemical infested environment possible. We eat no canned vegetables except cactus. The veggies are full of salt and life. I mean when have you ever seen grey tinged green beans?

This week my dd, Emma, studied the letter "G" in kindergarten. For homework she (we) had to write or draw as many G-words as she could think of. Let's use G-words as our prompt.

Girl that is me - Proud to be a mother and wife. Glamorous very few times a year unless you count playing dress-up and having your hair as well as make-up done by a 4 year old. Godly I strive to be. Living my life as best as I can projecting Christ’s love and image. Good to those around me giving all I can to help them through times of trial. Guidance I give when life has granted me wisdom another might need. Gold you ask – I prefer white. Growing I unfortunately am physically more rapidly that spiritually. I truly must reverse those two.

Deliver family centered care; provide lactation support activities; collaborate with families, nursing, allied health, and medical staff regarding human lactation and breastfeeding; and finally provide bedside support for lactating mothers of NICU infants. This may not sound like a dream job for most people, however this is the job I’ve been dreaming of since Isabella and Kaylor were born.

Why? You see I’m not an ordinary Mom. I’m a Mother of twins born at 30 weeks who were extremely low birth weight. I’m a Mother who didn’t hold her babies for longer than a few seconds until nearly a week after they were born with the exception of one stolen moment late the night they were born. I’m a Mother who had to leave her babies behind when I left the hospital with nothing more than a prayer they’d make it until I could visit again. I’m a Mother who didn’t get to experience the intimacy of nursing instead I had a relationship for nearly 3 years with my trusty breast pump. I’m a Mother who celebrated grams gained instead of pounds. I’m a Mother who had to always know this moment in time could be the last. I’m a Mother whose tiny baby boy had to fight a staph infection even an adult would have struggled to survive. I am the same Mother whose baby boy had a heart rate drop to 14 and had to be resuscitated back to life while I stood bedside. This day the same I would him behind and take his sister home after 43 days. I am the Mother who would have only one of my set home for another 41 days. I am the Mother and woman in the job description above. I know the pain of being a pumping or struggling direct breastfeeding Mother of a NICU patient. I have a huge spot in my heart for these champions who like me celebrate each moment they have with their baby/babies. I pray Wednesday when I interview this passion will shine. I pray the schedule will fall into my life and be as ideal as the job description. I am desperate to give love and support to the Mom’s whose girlhood dreams of having a baby were just as mine changed forever in just a few moments.

I know I'm late Suzanne. I was holding out hope until the last minute that my Thomas would come home. My journaling is more of a diary to my cat. sending it in order.
