Never been to a convention, this would be lovely in Las Vegas - never been, except when I've been on a plane and it stopped to pick up and drop off passengers - but, sniff, they would not let us off to check out the place, lol.

You will not be able to attend the trade show as it is for retailers and not consumers. The event will be held at the Sands Convention Center 2 days before the show starts.

I'm so excited about this, I keep coming back here to see if we have any more information. If anyone that plans on coming would like any hotel suggestions or any other info, I'd be happy to help you out. I'd offer my spare room as well but I'm likely moving in the summer and don't want to disappoint anybody. But just whistle if you need any help.

If we are booking hotels, we should try to stay at the same one, that way we can maybe even get a discount on the hotel rooms and when the fun ends at crop, it can begin in our hotels rooms. I have friends in the area, but will probably stay at a hotel for a day or so.
Where are the DSP folks staying? Maybe we could book there.
If anyone is traveling on a budget, or wants to make a new friend, we could also partner up and split the cost of a room. Let's get coordinated though! AND.... we should plan on spending a day on a Las Vegas photo shoot together. Las Vegas has some amazing photo opportunities. You can photograph the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, the New York skyline, the canals of Venice, the streets of Paris... the remnants of ancient Egypt... the list goes on. We would have a wonderful time.
I am definitely going.

Vegas is 972 miles from me ... but we are due for a trip to Vegas. Haven't been there since Thanksgiving 2001 ... so it's time!! We'd probably drive. So we need more info. Time ... all we have is a date - more specifics needed. Place ... very important. Being in Vegas is more than a one day thing ... so much to see and do. LOVE that place!

I'd like to offer a little Vegas tourism here to anyone who wants an "insiders" view. For hotels/motels...make SURE you book a place SOUTH of Sahara Ave or at a larger hotel downtown. That's assuming of course you want to stay on the strip. Otherwise you could end up in a very questionable area.
The closest hotel to the Sands Convention Center is TI (used to be Treasure Island). Here (http://hotels.about.com/library/hotelmaps/bl_map_of_las_vegas_strip_hotels.htm) is a good map to see where various hotels are.
Again, anything I can do for anyone that's coming, or any specific questions just holler.

Vegas, Vegas, Vegas! There is so much more to see in Vegas! The Belagio has the most fantastic shopping! You can see the Statue of Liberty, an amazing Pirate ship, and silly old men wear shorts!
Can you see all that in Grand Rapids!

Lauren, that would be wonderful! If you want a side trip to somewhere like Yosemite, let us know and we'll plan it...
Yosemite, trip down the coast, my house, Disneyland (LOL)... just let us know!!
Lauren
05-11-2007, 12:49 AM
Well here is the proposed plan so far - Kim and I are goign to fly into SanFrancisco ( her from the east and me from the far far west!!) - and then we are goign to rent a car and drive to Yosemite - we want to see a bit there and we want to go and have a photo taking session at Bodie - which is a state park ghost town that I found out about on the net - - then I guess we will need to stop at one more place on the way to vegas so figure somewhere near Death Valley might be a good option - take a few photos there and head into Vegas -
Of course this is purely in the planning stages so far but I think it sounds like a fun trip -
I'm still hoping to be there too!!! How fun!!!!
pspcandee
05-17-2007, 08:08 PM
If you're going to come via the Death Valley route Lauren, PLEASE be sure the car you've rented is in tip top condition. I don't know if you've ever been through there, but number one there's no cell service. In September, it will be about 130 degrees there and you're in that for about 2 hours. And it is about as barren a place as you'd ever want to see. Granted, even tho I live here I'm NOT a desert rose by any means so my opinion is very biased.
Just seriously take my advice about the car ok??
Carma
05-17-2007, 08:13 PM
Another added thing to be sure to do is take plenty of water bottles...you could break down and that would not be good with out water. I used to live in Las Vegas, and Tonopah Nevada....It is a place you would probably like to see...nothing like it anywhere. Scotty's Castle is there and was a very intersting place to take friends. Take a hat.
Lauren
05-17-2007, 11:19 PM
Well now that Im also planning to be there in July the trip in September may be a bit shorter - I may fly direct into Las Vegas - and do a couple of side trips for a couple of days before the convention - but who knows - things change like the wind around here!!!
Has a hotel been picked yet for us to stay at?
Margie
06-01-2007, 12:20 AM
the crop is at the sands expo center, which is connected to the venetian. but you can stay anywhere of course and get there easily.
omiof5
06-01-2007, 04:36 PM
Can you give us even an educated guess on starting time, Margie? I'd like to fly in Sunday morning.

We don't know times yet - but our last one didn't start until 10am.

Thanks, Amanda.
Okay, DH and I are booked at the Venetian for the weekend -- he decided to "sacrifice," drive with me, and make us rich while I go to the crop.
BTW, the Venetian's website shows that week blocked out but we were able to book online through AAA.

hmmmmmmmmmm
Vegas??? hmmmmmmmmmmm
I may have to try to come to this one...gotta talk to hubby first...LOL
sounds like lots of fun! We'll be in Vegas the first weekend in July, driving through, so I think I won't catch this one this year. But I keep getting excited for the next crop location!!! If you are considering it, be sure to go!

07-15-2007, 10:08 AM
OK - I made my flight reservations - coming in Sunday morning returningon a 6:00 am Monday flight - work must go on sigh.
Any advice on where to stay? The Imperial palace is about 90.00 and almost next door to the Venetion. How bad could it be for one very short night?
Treasure Island, The Mirage are across the stree and under 150 - but extravagent for just needing a pillow.
I would like to stay within easy walking of the crop. The Venetian is way pricey for my needs - definately would like to stay uder 100.00
Any advise is appreciated.
Thanks
If we are booking hotels, we should try to stay at the same one, that way we can maybe even get a discount on the hotel rooms and when the fun ends at crop, it can begin in our hotels rooms. I have friends in the area, but will probably stay at a hotel for a day or so.

I am definitely going.
Partnering up is a great plan! I'd be up for sharing a room. My BF will probably be coming and he'll need a room partner too - but I don't think any of you can help with that (back off flat grannies!) :) He may just be stuck by his lonesome!

I'm definitely coming - booked my flights today and soooooo excited. I'm staying with Lynnie (Formby Girl) in Los Angeles to start with and we will be meeing up with a lot of the local RCG'ers to do stuff before the crop. Not sure when Lynnie is planning for us to go to LV but I think it will be at least the day before the crop, and I'm not sure which hotel we will be staying in. I think everyone is waiting to see who is staying where. What we need is for someone to organise us. Anyway I can't wait I will be in America from 5th Sept thru 26th Sept. Yahooooooooo.
