Our winner for the Out of Frame / Out of Bounds Challenge was FormbyGirl for her beautifully done Rajasthani Elephant Man (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=176766&cat=2621) - well done Lynnette, and I am glad to say that at last, I do have some things ready for the store, so I can send out some overdue prizes!

The challenge for this next week is Shades of Sepia - your pages done with these, easy to use shades - it certainly does not have to be heritage, sepia is lovely to work with.

Remember the T42 rules:
Your page must use my products (not freebies LOL!) and they must be linked to the store - you may certainly use a kit of mine and make it sepia if you need to, just mention in your description.
They have to be posted before 11.00 am on Thursday of each week to be in the voting.

Good luck with your pages and enjoy doing them, I look forward to seeing what you come up with :)

For the following week we will do Collages/Montages/Blended photos - Karen Bowers did a great tutorial here in the forum (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22184&highlight=blending) There are several tutorials in the Tutorial section (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/tutorials.shtml) - scroll down to the scrapping techniques section or search on the page for the words Photo Collage/Montage (in your browser Edit > find on this page)

Several links were given in the chat for examples of blended pages, but since I was booted 9OK I clicked the wrong button LOL!!!!) I lost the chat history. Please feel free to post them her in the forum.

In next weeks T42 we will all learn together the basics of how to do this technique - I'd love some helper volunteers who use programs other than Photoshop? ie I would give a step in PS and you could translate?

Volunteers? well I use Paint Shop Pro- usually v9 and I would be happy to help, but hope there will be other PSP users too, several heads are better than one:)

I missed the chat, so I am not sure if just the pic has to be sepia, or the whole LO. Thanks for your input! :)

Sorry if that was not clear - I think we decided on a sepia page - but6 really we are not fussy LOL! Love to see your page :)

I love this challenge-it sure pushed me out of my traditional box of paper style scrapping! And I learned a lot! Here is my layout, of my son, Michael. What was so fun was that the photo of him at 6 months old was so discolored from fading, that I
wasn't sure I'd ever be able to use it, and it worked great using this method.

Here is my Sepia LO entitled School Days 1943 (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=181296&cat=2621). Somehow, all 5 school pictures of my Dad, his brothers and sisters survived from 1943 and we recently found a photo of the school they attended. I couldn't wait to do this page and thought this was the perfect opportunity!!

Quick Question!!

I was wondering if it was okay to use a couple elements from another designers kit (ie: flowers or such)? The layout will consist primarily of your kit(s) but was curious if we could add stuff from any other designer. If not that is ok! :) Just wanted to check!

Thanks so much!

LOLOLOL - oh you are too funny :)

Thanks Meryl! :) I picked one of my absolute favorite kits of yours to use! It is truly a MUST HAVE!!! :)

Ok Meryl - I have decided (**LOLOLOLOL**) this kit definitely needs some add ons, alphas, and perhaps a complete mini album! Oh wait that could be an entire challenge! **hehehehe** Don't you just love it when your members get to thinking - scary huh? ;)

Ok so I have them uploaded! Unfortunately I dont believe I am going to be able to make the chat as I have a birthday party to go to. I hope you all have fun and hope to catch you next week! Loved this weeks challenge :)

Arg - of course when I uploaded them they still did not come out so the left page is on the left. So in the gallery they are switched as they appear in my album!

Meryl,
Here is my first attempt at a blended layout. I use Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 and wanted to see if it was possible to do something like the blended layout you referenced. It took a lot of experimenting, but I finally got it to work. I'm still learning how to use this DIP, but if I can figure out something and help someone else, I'm willing to try.

BLENDING - 4/19/07 - T42

Blending is joining pics together seamlessly, so they softly go into each other.
Collect the photos you want to use.
Your goal is to blend them seamlessley into the background.
There are many ways to do that.
I will give the simplest.
Open your background; the best is plain, but with texture.
Then open your photos and put them on the background.
Now resize and move them around sort of how you think they will be used.
Now as I say the simplest just run a lasso roughly around the part you want to keep then feather it about 60 I do, depending on size of pic
Lasso is the selection tool so you have a feathered selection
select > inverse > delete
EXAMPLE:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=69547&cat=500&ppuser=24
So what you want is to join 2 or 3 photos softly.
Now its a matter of shifting them till they look right.
If you need to you can use a soft opacity eraser to help tidy up.

So, for next week use blending and a Meryl kit.
Post to http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=2621[/url]

BTW relevent to this technique Sssnoo recently found a great book that covers selections, layers, masks and paths for PS - very good. By Nigel French-Adobe Photoshop Unmasked

Thanks so much for your post Laura - much appreciated :) you are a great secretary!

Please remember this is photo blending at its very, very simplest!!! There are many excellent tutorials in the tutorial section here at dsp (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/university/tutorials/tutorials.shtml), scroll down to the section "scrapping techniques" and on the right column, about 1/2 way down see:

Photo Collage/Montage (for beginners) [PS Part 1] [PS Part 2] [PSP] [DIP] Chat Transcript: Part 1 Part 2

there are probably several more too.

So who won the Sepia Tones challenge this week? I can't ever make it to the T42 chat (it's 3am my time) but I usually enter a LO and it would be so nice to hear what happens at the chats and especially who won afterwards.

Meryl (or anyone who knows!) -- Are any of these layouts what y'all are calling "blended"?

http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=113791&cat=2757
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=115475&cat=2757&ppuser=52413
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=117566&cat=2757&ppuser=52413

I'm not sure what I call them and I had to go back and check how I did the one of the kids at Sunday School. But I know how to do these things. I guess what was being described in chat is just what I call an extraction and then putting it with a background.

Ooh, I can't believe I missed the chat last week. <grrr>

Anyway, I think I figured it out from reading posts in the forum and looking at the LOs already posted. (Thanks everyone!!)

Jaylb- The current challenge for T42 is to do a LO using Meryl's new kit "Granny Red Thread". Here is the link

Feel free to ask as many questions as you like- there is so much going on at DSP and we all find it confusing at first:)

I'm not awfully sure about Red threads and Granny though lol!
