I'm hoping the "third time is the charm". I'm fairly new to digital scrapbooking & am trying to successfully organize all the product I've managed to accumulate in just a few months.
My first try was to sort by type (paper, brad, ribbon, etc.), but that gave me a major headache.
The second was to split my kits into paper & non-paper (i.e., elements) and then load the paper into PSE5's organizer. That allowed me to sort by source (website), color, pattern (stripes, stars, etc.), & even resolution.
I went through two evolutions of that--originally I set up a separate catalog for the scrapping stuff but eventually found that to be problematic because I had to keep switching between my scrapping catalog and my photos catalog. So, I merged the two catalogs so that I now have a combination of papers and photos in a single catalog. The sheer number of images makes it difficult to find what I want quickly and easily because the scrapping stuff is interspersed with the photo stuff (yes, I do use PSE's tagging function, but still want more organization in my life!).
I saw short articles about ACDSee Photo Manager in two recent scrapping magazines and, after seeing this forum at DSP, decided to buy the product. I love how easy it is to get downloads into the program (download the zipped file & then unzip it to a folder for scrapping stuff).
MY PROBLEM IS...I can't figure out the connection between my PSE5 photo editor product and the ACDSee photo manager product. I can use PSE5 to browse to my scrapping stash folder, but I don't yet see how, for example, I can search for a particular scrapping item in ACDSee (say a blue ribbon) and, once found, get that into the PSE editor to use in a layout.
Suggestions/comments appreciated...Thanks!
Wanda

Yeah, I found the answer to my question on the digiscrapinfo website. It took a bit of digging, but now I can get my scrapping files into PSE. I think I'm going to like this... Too bad I have to go to work today!

Thanks a lot for the link. I just purchased it last weekend after pondering for a while. How cool that you can have it open and simply drag items over to my PSPX. So far I have categorized only 1/2 of what I have but it still running fast. I'm really liking it.

In addition to clicking & dragging, you can also use Ctrl E once you set this up (http://www.digiscrapinfo.com/phpmyfaq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=8&id=15&artlang=en).
I'm glad that you're enjoying it!

If I assign keywords in ACDSee, is there a way to see these keywords if I search when using Photoshop CS2? I can't figure out how to do it, but it seems like it should do this.
Any help is appreciated!

The keywords on the main Properties page are ACDSee specific. To have keywords that are available to other programs like Photoshop, they have to be added as IPTC data which I believe is only in the Pro version of ACDSee. Not sure if there is something comparable in EXIF data, but that would also be available in Photoshop.

Thanks for the info. It got me started in the right direction and I found out that the IPTC data does work for me

Actually, now I'm not sure I can get it to work. I can assign an IPTC keyword, but just to one photo at a time. I'm sure there must be a way to do multiple files, but I can't figure it out. Any ideas? What is IPTC anyway?

There's a way to do batch meta data...but again, I use Pro so unless you are using that as well, I'm not sure if it's available to you. IPTC stands for something...you can google it to find out I'm sure. But it's basically just a standard for embedding data into files like photos or documents that many programs support (like EXIF for photo data).

OMG - I am so in love with this feature!!! I used to drag my elements/papers from ACDSee over to PSE - talk about a huge waste of time now that I found this fantastic timesaving tip!!! Thank you so very much for the great step-by-step instructions, made it very simple to get this set up.
