downloading raw

i am a bit confused...just starting taking raw and i am using a pc.... i had been downloading photos from my flash card thru windows....opening up to the drive, and then seeing my photos...copying them onto hard drive into folder i wanted them to be in.... now with raw i only see a little file folder, cant see the thumbnail first...so dont know if that is the photo i want to download ( since i have many shoots on a cf card)...i thought that i could see them and had done some downloading of raw thru this way...but now i cant and i had my computer cleaned up so maybe there is something needs to be reset??? or am i imagining that i could download raw this way too... hope you can understand my questions here and can help...thanks,bobbie

Hi, Bobbie... what Windows you have? If it's Windows XP, you can download the RAW image thumbnailer and viewer HERE (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=D48E808E-B10D-4CE4-A141-5866FD4A3286&displaylang=en). BTW, I don't have this installed in my computer. I usually viewed my RAW files in Photoshop or Adobe Bridge.

Another option is to use Lightroom, bring all the photos off the card into a working folder, review them and delete the ones you don't want to keep and then move them to the correct folder once you have done that.

Like Ima I use Bridge to view my RAW files, transferring them the same way that you do, so there is nothing you are doing wrong in transferring just try the thumbnail viewer that Ima mentioned when you don't want to open up Bridge :)
