I can't for the life of me think of the name of this effect in PSE (or if it even has it!). What I want to do, for example, is change the photo to black & white and then just leave the bushes in the background green. I've seen these type of photos before but I have no idea how to do it. Hoping someone can help!

TIA. :D

Hi - I am not sure I will be of much help...but I will try! I use PSCS but the concept may still be the same.

*First I take my normal colored picture open a new document and put my picture on that document.

*I then duplicate that layer so I now have two colored pictures exactly the same.

*The bottom picture I next turn to black and white or sepia or whatever you wish.

*Next I use a mask to erase all the parts of the colored picture that I DONT want. (I use a mask because if you change your mind it is easy to fix without having to start over like you do with using the eraser). For example, if I had a picture of a chlid's face that I wanted black and white all except the eyes in which I wanted to remain in color. I would simply mask erase everything on the color pic except the eyes.

*In PSCS you can then merge the layers together so they are one but you don't need to. Just keep them linked so they move together!

Does any of this rambling make sense? I hope so - if not I am sure someone else will know and explain it much better! Best of luck and let us see what you do! :)

It sure will work the way Corgi Lover described, but it's actually easier to duplicate your colour photo, and change the top photo to black and white .. then you need only erase the bit you want to be coloured so it'll show through. Less erasing that way :) ... works either way though!

By Jeeves I think I've got it! This probably wasn't the best photo to experiment with but I removed the green leaves & the brick wall in the background to leave the orchid in the foreground (this is my own beautifl orchid from my garden!).

How did I go?

Oh trust me, you don't want me anywhere near your garden... My thumbs are definately not green! This orchid was a fluke I think. This is why I take photos things when they flower because I just can't believe it!
