What and where to copy

When I make a copy of my photos, is it safe to do it in my layout before i use them or should I do it before I move it? Also the kits, i've learned the hard way you have to use a copy of some things, but again can I make the copies in the layers and I will still have the original? Do I have to copy the elements and those things too?

I'm confused, sorry for the simple (i'm sure) questions?

When you drag a picture to a layout you are copying the picture, so any changes you make won't be on your original picture, and also any kit elements you use will be copied when you drag them to your layout too. If you are planing on making changes to a picture or element (like croping or touching up) before you drag it, just don't save the changes on the original and it will be fine. Or you can choose the "save as" option and make another copy of the picture if you want to keep a copy with the changes.

So i don't have to make copies and my pictures are gonna stay in my folders once I use them??

yep, as long as you don't save changes to the actual picture file
