I will do my best to explain my problem.
I want to put a picture (which is a rectangle) inside an enlarged "rusty" colored ring (the ring will be like the frame of the picture). When that is done, I will paste it onto my layout. How do I make my rectangle picture fit perfectly inside this ring? I have been hunting around for weeks for an answer to my question. You can email me if you want at LHeiling@heitek.biz
THANKS SO MUCH!

Lorrie, you will have to cut a circle out of the rectangular picture. Use a selection tool, make a circle inside the picture, and do a copy and paste. The rectangle will never fit inside a circle without distorting it.
Lorri, which program do you use? With Paint Shop Pro, I would open my photo and copy it and paste it to a new document (I never work with my original photos). Is your ring already cut out with a transparent center? If so, copy it and paste it on another layer over the photo. You can then resize one or both items to fit your needs, then make sure you are on the ring layer (PSP F8 key shows layers) and use the magic wand selection tool to select the area inside the ring. Go to Selections>Modify>Expand your selection by 5 or 10 pixels so the area is larger than the inner part of the ring.
Go to Selections>Invert so that your selection is now outside the ring and go to your layer palette and click on the photo layer. Hit delete and the excess will be trimmed away. Go back and select the ring layer; you might want to make a slight drop shadow inside the ring, then go to Layer, Merge Visible - and the items will be merged so that you can simply copy and paste them to your layout - and can be sized together.
This principle should work in Photo Shop and others - even my Broderbund Print Shop and CK Scrapbooking have layering and trimming features. Have fun - working with copies of your items allows that you can start over until you're happy with your results.
