View Full Version : How do I create a pattern?
I am trying to do a page on a reunion and it relates to basketball. All I have for patterns are "bubbles". I tried to make my own background but it was really really really bad.
I want to try and make a basketball texture and colored background. ANy suggestions?????
I'm assuming by "bubbles" you're using PS.
You need to load the rest of your patterns. You'll see a tiny black triangle/arrow in a circle, click that for a popup menu. At the bottom you'll see Artist Surfaces, Nature and a bunch more. Click those and look around for something nubbly like a basketball.
To color it orange it depends if you're using the Paint Bucket Tool to fill with a pattern or Layer Styles pattern overlay.
1. For Paint Bucket, after filling the layer with the pattern, switch from Pattern to Foreground in the Options Bar and choose a burnt orange color. Then on the Options Bar lower the Opacity to around 50% (try and undo a few times to get the number right) and fill the layer again with the see-through orange.
2. If you're more familiar with the Hue/Saturation dialog, instead of filling the pattern layer with orange, instead go to Hue/Saturation and click the Colorize box. Then slide the Hue until you get orange on your pattern.
3. In Layer Styles, click on the Color Overlay words and choose an orange color. Then slide the Opacity slider down until you like the look.
Hope one of these options answers your question. If not, please ask back and give more info so we can help you out. There are even more ways to make a pattern, so if this doesn't work for you then we'll find something that does!
Wow! I found a whole bunch of stuff that I can play with now. I will upload the page when I get done. WooHoo!
Thanks for the help. I actually found it under edit, preset manager, but would not have even checked there if it wasn't for your suggestion.
This is the coolest program!!!!!!!
Glad you found the preset manager too, it's so cool! Glad it's not over your head, not usually something that newbies latch onto right away. And so glad you're excited and found some new toys to play with.
I have a tendency to want to throw every option, and am always relieved when I either don't do that, or the recipient doesn't get even more confused
Anyway, sounds like you're well on your way and found a bunch of new ways while you were at it. Keep it up! Be sure to link your layout in this thread so I don't miss it.
