I want to get a good scanner to scan in all of my pre-digital pictures. What is a good scanner for this purpose? Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

I have the Epson Perfection 3170 - under $200, has color correction feature and scans negatives and slides - just a great all-around little work horse.

Just my 2 cents - I bought the Canon Canoscan 8400F about a month ago. It works really well - scans fast, cleans up scratched pictures, has a 35mm negative holder, and a slide holder. You can also put several photos on the bed and it will separate them into individual files. It came with great software too, including Photoshop Elements 2.0, which is what I use to scrap.

I bought the Canon CanoScan Lide 80 about a month ago too. I love it. It will scan multiple pics and create a separate file for each one. It came with PSE2. It's got great photo editing/repair software, which I haven't even begun to get into yet. It comes with a negative thingey too, which I don't know how to work with yet. My scans are awesome with it.

It scans strips of 35mm negatives as well as slides. It can scan a whole strip at a time (unattended) and has the wonderful Digital ICE software that cleans up dust/scratches. It also has a TON of other software features to restore color, sharpen, fix grainy photos, etc. but the Digital ICE is the biggie. I have scanned 400 negatives in the last week and I'm very happy with the quality of this dedicated film scanner for my negatives.

I've also got the Nikon Cool Scan and it does have an adapter that's *supposed to* (I've stopped taking that type of thing for granted) work with other negatives. I have that on order as I've also got some 110 negatives, and I imagine it would do 126. Gotta make a call and see if that's come in.
