Best way to sumbit?

Hi everyone! I'm so curious about this and I think I need some help. I would like to start submitting some layouts but I'm not sure of the best way to go about it or where to look to submit. I usually wish I had known something in the beginning when I start something new! Do you all submit directly to the magazines/ publications or is it safe to use something like the www.scrapsubmit site? I just tried it and it IS easier than getting every layout ready for every different website, but I just can't help but wonder if it's really going anywhere. Also, if you do use the scrapsubmit, what size files (pixel) do you load? I read 100kb file size but I also reduced the pixel size and I don't know if it's too small. I really appreciate the help on this! I want to join in on the woo hoos and toots of being published! :-)

When Ive submitted in the past ( havent had time recently) - Ive used both scrap submit and done it manually - Ive had layouts published with submissions from both ways - so I dont think it really matters - I make my layouts600x600 - big enough to see detail but easy to get under the 100k limit
