View Full Version : TNS - Sketch Challenge, June
Ready for the next 2-part sketch challenge?! What? Oh, yeah, did you notice the difference? Not 2 PAGE (though you are welcome to do a 2-pager), but 2 PART!! That's right, this is a two part process this month, and you'll be expected to post both parts.
This month's sketch will be designed by.... YOU!!! Now don't stress, I'm not leaving it completely up in the air. Instead, I want you to design a sketch based on the floorplan of your home. Karen B mentioned to me that her house is an L shape, so this could add some interesting dimensions to your designs, if you also have a non-square/rectangular home. Here's an example for you. This is the floorplan of our first house:

See all those great sqares and lines! So many ways to go with this! Now, when you're making your actual layout, you don't need to be confined by the house theme. I thought of choosing pictures that were taken in each room, but that didn't feel right to me, and I couldn't get inspired in that direction. Instead, I chose a batch of pictures that I took a couple of weeks ago at a fundraiser for my son's school.

I used the ribbons & word stickers where closets and bathrooms are in my sketch. The filmstrip at the bottom doesn't fit the sketch at first glance, but to me it links the living room and kitchen area, the two most open and busy areas of my old home. I kept the basic dimensions the same as the sketch, with the larger "rooms" at the bottom with the open space and larger font title.
So, what do you think? Are you ready to look for inspiration in a completely new way? Don't worry if you can't draw, I had to draw my floorplan about three times before it looked right to me. You can draw and scan, use your computer to place shapes on a page, whatever works! But post your sketch when you post your layout, that way we can really see the process.
Happy home-making!!

Where do you get these ideas Meg? This is a really novel approach.
In the middle of the night, usually, LOL!! Not sure where this one came from, I have it written down in a notebook by the computer....I wonder what I was thinking about or looking at when it came to me!
I actually really enjoyed thinking about how to do it, I hope you all have fun with it!

Okay, I can't proportion right but I attempted!

Also, my house has weird angles ... like the sunroom and deck extend past the garage, but I just put them as out the same distance....and my kitchen has an odd (though I think pretty cool) jut out - sort of like having my kitchen IN a bay window type outcropping ... weird to explain really (but one of the main reasons we built this house!)
Just hard to include on a scrapbook page ....:)

OK - this could be be interesting for me - our house is a bit non conventional in shape. I will have to dig up the plans :)

Hi I was wondering if there were any criteria in joining this challenge? (noticed its for advanced scrappers, which I am definitly not!) but love to accept a challenge.. and would love to submit my attempt at this one.. :) it was fun to do! and would like any cc you could give me... i have drawn my house layout (just renovating the house so that was easy for me) and done a quick layout for photos... next step is adding in all the photos backgrounds and elements..... thats the tough part choosing which kit/s and which photos i want to use!!! thinking of doing the house renovation photos would fit well i think.. oh well better stop rambling.........
here is the links just in case.... (fingers crossed.......)

Oh boy.....this is definitely a challenge! I can barely draw stick people, much less a floor plan. At least you'll have some comic relief when I get around to doing this. LOL Thanks for another great challenge Meg!

My home is very rectangular. I live in an RV! And our RV will be a moving target the next week or so (which means my desktop computer where I do all my layouts is packed away) but I'm really going to try participate in this. I love TNS challenges and this is another great one.

here is my layout, however just noticed a problem in the journalling....... will fix that in the original.... I used some before and some after shots to show how our house has been over the past two years. there is always at least one room that is in a state of renovation.. :) i think the whole layout does need some tweaking... but not sure exactly what so if you have any cc please let me know.... :)
Thankyou

Thankyou to those who left me the CC on my layout, because I do most of my scrapbooking late at night sometimes I just get stuck and calling friends on the phone at 1am is not a good way to keep them :) I sometimes find it hard to get past that "theres something just not right" moment. here is the updated layout...

This was fun!
Here's the floor-plan (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=195358&cat=4046) of a previous home and here are the two pages.
Left-side (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=195357&cat=4046) and Right-side (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=195356&cat=4046) and Combined (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=195361&cat=4046). I didn't realize this until I loaded the combined LO but the striped ribbon on each 'side' of the 2-pages ended up looking like that staircase in the floor-plan. Well, sort-of????
Great idea for a sketch, Meg. I'll be looking at other houses and buildings for further inspiration!
