View Full Version : Featured Designer Most of Challenge (June 1 - June 30th)

Who's up for a new most-of challenge? I know I am!

This challenge uses exclusively DSP Page Kits, Plopper Plus and Add on Packs from the Designer of the Month featured in the DSP Monthly Newsletter. The products used can be purchased or can be from the freebie gallery, but everything used on your layout must be from the featured designer.

This month's designer is LAUREN BAVIN

5 points will be earned for first time a Page Kit, Plopper Plus, AOP or Quick click is used
1 point will be earned for subsequent times it is used
1/2 point for each plopper used (one time only use)

To count as a first time use, the layout must recognizably use multiple elements from a Page Kit, AOP, Plopper Plus or Quick Click. First time use is first time in this challenge for this month.
Any other items from the designer of the month (alphas, overlays, backpacks, element sets, stamps, etc.) may be used on any of your layouts, but can't be considered the main items on a layout and alone would not count towards points
You may freely use word art from any designer
Doubling, tripling, quadrupling for other challenges is encouraged since this has NO GALLERY :) but you MUST post a link here.
A layout can only count once in your list (eg. if you use two kits, still only counts once)

All layouts can be in any gallery, but must be properly credited (http://digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11486) and linked in this forum. Please track all layouts in a single post. Include the layout name, the kit name and the number of points. Keep a running track of the points at the end of your post.

Example:
5 Points My Lovely Layout using "Wonderful" Page Kit
5 Points My New Layout using "Fantastic" Quick Click
1 point My Next Layout using "Wonderful" Page Kit
11 points total

Deadline for submission of layouts: Saturday, 30th June, 2007 at Midnight EST (DSP Time) Draw will be held on Sunday, July 1st, 2007: and be posted in this forum. I will PM the winners.

Not for points. The layout must contain a page kit, AOP, QC or plopper to count and a layout can only count once in your list. Hope that's clear :)

And if that is correct, - if I use kit#2 or kit#3 in another LO again, does that still qualify as first time use since they were ineligible for points in the first LO or are they considered out already?

But that's right. If you use three of Lauren's kits, then it would count as five points.
If you did a different layout with one of those three kits, then you could count it as a first time use.

It would only count as five points. You could use any of Lauren's products with the quick click. If you used a page kit with the quick click then you would count one or the other as your initial use item. You could use the page kit as an initial use item another time.

You can only count a layout once in your list.

WAIT, I am confused ... so I have done one layout - the MOST points I can have for a layout is 5 points - no matter how many different kits/QCs I use? But if I use the same kit or QC again, but for a different layout then I can count another 5 points for initial use of the kit?

Or for example:
Layout 1: Kit A, Kit B, QC 1 = 5 points (or is that 7 points?)
Layout 2: Kit B, QC 2 = 5 (or 6?)
Layout 3: Kit A + QC 2 = 2 points

Right - five is the max you can earn for one layout. After a kit/QC /aop/plopper-plus has been counted for it's initial then the max it can earn is 1 pt.

And, the layouts must only include elements from the designer of the month, for example, you could not use a QC from Kim with all Lauren's elements and count that.

Hope that is more clear....

Just a point to note... I work during the day - sometimes long hours, so I will get to any additional questions when I get home at the end of the day, or at lunch if I can sneak some time.

Even though this is a 'most of' challenge, I hope with all my heart, that you will be created 'most of' layouts that really count for your family. My hope was that this would motivate people to complete some scrapping projects that have been on the back burner for a while.

Yes Mars, you can only count 1 item per LO is the way I now understand the rules. However, you will be able to use the other kit in another LO for the full 5 point value. We can't muliply our points in this challenge, which is really too bad. I had to go and redo my list again as well.

That's right :) we wanted these layouts to truly reflect the work of the featured designer. Since it is hard to draw a line on how much of the layout is the designer's work when we are using multiple items from multiple designers, it seemed the easiest way.

Everyone is doing such a fantastic job with their layouts. Sorry I've been missing in action the last couple of days, but been swamped at work. I think I'm safe, then right out of the blue I have a project that is sucking up all the hours in every day.

Then my family expects time with me (what's with that!!)

Project ends tomorrow - so should be good after that. In the meantime, thanks, Cathiemarie for all the checking you've been doing and sending out the posting bonuses. I couldn't be doing this without you.

I wish I had time to comment on every layout. You are all amazing!! Some of the layouts are just filled with layers of beatiful elements and obviously took loads of time and effort. I am sure that Lauren is peeking in to see how beautifully you are scrapping these days.

When you are doing these challenges, I would also challenge you to scrap meaningful layouts. The most important layouts are not the ones you have done for challenges, but the ones you can look back on and love. I am so proud of some of the layouts I have done and not so proud of others. Even in a most of challenge, quality and memorable layouts are the most important things you can produce.

Thanks for your patience in my absences. I travel quite a bit for work and am in the middle of a huge project. CathieMarie has been wonderful in my absence, keeping an eye on everything.

HAHA - Scamps the Doofus. That was a brilliant idea, scamps, hardly doofuslike at all. Would have been even better if it had worked.

Just kidding :) We've tried to put in enough rules to level the playing field for everyone, and I really hope it has.

I'd also like to encourage you to post really meaningful layouts and use this challenge as a chance to inspire yourself to get caught up on some albums or pictures you've been meaning to scrap for a while. Remember, winning the most of part is great, but there is also a draw and a posting bonus as well.

Crediting Your Layouts:

There are two parts to crediting your layouts: 1) In the photodetails section of your posted layout, you should add links to the designer kits you are using and 2) in the KEYWORDS you can add the kit keywords which are a number key followed by the letters dsp.

Creating links to the kits:
In the photodetails section, add a link to the kit in the store.

Click here to link to the store The FABULOUS DSP Store (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com)
Type the name of the kit in the search box and click search
When the kit comes up (or a list of kits) then click on it to open it up
Cut and paste the url from the browser address bar into the photodetails section of your posted layout.
Add text to put the name of the kit and the designer name
See below to find out how to make the links look pretty.

Creating Keywords:
When you are in the store looking at a kit, there's a link on the page that says "Click Here to see layouts using this product." If you include the store keyword in the keywords section of your posted layout, then your layout will be one of the ones shown in the gallery.

When you copy-and-paste the url into the photo details section, you'll notice the end of it says "&products_id=" with a number. That number is the kit's keyword
Type the number into the keywords section of your posted layout and immediately follow the numbers with dsp. It will look like 9999dsp.

There is also a Keywords by Category link in the store here:
Keywords by Category (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/ads/keywordsbycategory.php) This is also pretty handy for taking you straight to the link to the kit in the store.

Making Links Look Pretty:

Type Post the link you copied for the kit
Add a ] to the end of the link
Type the name of the kit and the designer
Add at the end. (replace X with U)
It will look like Beyond Bronze by Lauren Bavin (but replace the X with U)

I'd type out an example with the letter U in the right places but it turns into a link every time :) which is why we have the letter X in the how to section.

OKay, I'm a little confused about something (as usual LOL)

For one of my layouts, say I use a bunch of Lauren's kits and it's the first time I've used them for this challenge.......but it's all on just one layout. Do I get 5 points for each page kit (since it's first time i used them) or just 5 points for the layout as a whole? Just wondering. Thanks!

I'm not sure if a kit has already been used by someone else, than it is less points or not. Is it 5 points the first time a kit has personally been used and posted, or for the first person who posts using that kit? If it is for first 'personal' use of a kit..then my total points is 75, at 5 per kit.
I know I need to take this as a personal challenge...I am trying to use all those kits that I bought AND am trying to get as many layouts done for our family. I have sent the gift certificates through the store, so they should arrive in the next day or so. Thanks, everyone, for all the congratulations on being spotlight. I have to say it is so exciting for me. I keep going to the DSP home page and staring at my favourite layouts blinking around one after the other. I didn't realize how excited I would be :)
