Hi Everyone!! I'm so excited to share with you this new forum! There are many of us that practice our writing skills and share our lives (and scrapbook pages) with family and friends by keeping a blog. Here's a link to a thread Samara started that contains the links to many DSP members' blogs:

Do You Blog? (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10246)

I've decided to take this idea one further and challenge everyone to update their blogs regularly and/or do more journaling on their scrapbook pages. Watch this forum for daily prompts and challenges to keep you going!!

And feel free to add a link to your blog in your signature, or post it here so we can all come visit you!!

I don't blog, but we have our own web site, does that count?

Meg
04-03-2006, 12:43 PM
Okay, my challenges won't necessarily have prizes, but I do mean them in the traditional sense of the word. I CHALLENGE you to sit down each day and write something! If you don't keep a blog, then try journaling on a scrapbook page!

Since we're in the middle of celebrating DSP's 2nd birthday, today's challenge is to write about your birthdays. Good or bad, presents, traditions, whatever you want!

Link here if you update your blog today (even if you don't write about your birthday) or if you create a scrapbook page on this theme.

And as an added bonus, there is a present waiting at my blog for any of you that want it. Enjoy! And Happy Writing!

Absolutely Beth! I've seen it and you use it to tell short stories! That's a blog to me! And besides, this is for practicing our journaling skills too! So you can share your stories on your scrapbook pages if you like. Just let us know when you have something to share!

I've got one - new & improved:

http://readwhat42.blogspot.com

I'm feeling pretty proud of myself today because I finally got all 3 columns to look right in both IE and Firefox last night, after 3 days of work. I don't know what it looks like ona Mac though.

I highly recommend www.bloglines.com for keeping track of your favorite blogs. It lets you subscribe to them (via a link in your favorites) and then it keeps track of them. You just go to bloglines.com and all your subscribed feeds are there, with the new posts listed. :)

Thanks to those of you who joined in yesterday!! I hope we can keep each other motivated to keep writing. Don't forget to go back every once in a while and see if there's anything in your blog that would make a great scrapbook page!

And those of you that are going straight to the scrapbook pages, don't forget to let us know if you do one that goes with our challenges, I'd love to see it!

Today's prompt is to write about something you don't like doing, but you do it anyway. Link here when you're done, so we can see! I've done mine, my blog link is in my signature!

Lisa! Your blog looks great, I'm so glad you've joined us. And yes, all you have to do is link to the daily thread whenever you update, so we know to come visit you. This "challenge" is all about encouraging people to journal more and to help you get some memories written down that you may later want to go back and scrap.

If you can, or want to, go into your Blogger options and change it to allow non-Bloggers to comment. I'll leave you comments as often as I can!

Stacey42

I use my blog to put bits and pieces and stories that I might use for journalling later on. I try to make it interesting for visitors as well as being for myself. I was never much good at keeping a diary so this is a bit of a training ground for me. Please take a look and tell me what you think.

Stacey42
04-09-2006, 10:11 AM
www.blogger.com is probably the fasters & easierst way to get started & it is free!

Judyy
04-09-2006, 03:47 PM
Updated as ordered! I'm not doing many new layouts lately, but I AM doing better at keeping up with my blog. Otherwise, I'm mostly training for my upcoming bike tour--gotta start taking my camera with me on those rides.

04-09-2006, 04:22 PM
Great job, girls! I've updated mine, too! A couple of LOs, a bit of grumpiness, and happy ending!

Today, use a quote in your writing. It doesn't have to be by a famous person, you can quote a family member if you like! And I'm hoping that Tina's quote will be "Outwit, outplay, outbirthday", so we can find out how Tate's amazing birthday party went!

I'll post here later when I've updated mine (my dd is on spring break, so computer time is hard to find). Those of you that have been by mine, are you able to leave comments? Judy left one and mentioned she needed a password. It should be open to everyone and if it isn't I need to do some searching. Let me know if you have a chance. Thanks!

Judyy
04-10-2006, 10:51 AM
I agree that blogger is the easiest way to get started. I checked out typepad, which is great and offers more flexibility, but at a price. Lots of dsp members use typepad and they have wonderful blogs.

But if I had to pay to blog, it would make me feel nervous and guilty if I didn't update all the time. But with blogger, I do it whenever, and if I don't, well, so what? I want my blog to be an outlet for my thoughts, feelings, and creativity, not another stress-producer in my life. LOL

Sandersmr
04-10-2006, 11:05 AM
Amen, Judy!!!! I use my blog a lot to vent when I feel like I don't have anywhere to go. And I use it to capture random thoughts. But I don't want to feel I HAVE to journal.

Sandersmr
04-10-2006, 12:12 PM
I did this one a couple of weeks ago... when I blogged the Psalm 23 story that was the inspiration for this layout:

04-10-2006, 04:42 PM
okay..i've been out of town since thursday, with NO net access..so I've got some blogging to do both on my scrappiness blog AND my regular one.

04-10-2006, 05:24 PM

Sandersmr
04-10-2006, 07:15 PM
Meg - you have to have a passport log in to comment in msn. That's one of the things I don't like about them. Xanga is the same way.

Meg, the same thing happened to me as to Judy when I tried to leave a comment. The site told me "You must sign in using a Microsoft .NET Passport to publish a comment to this website." So it looks like it only allowsvisitors who are registered with Microsoft.NET to be able to comment. Typical of Microsoft trying to control the world, I guess.

I have 2 blogs, one all about my gardening musings, www.lauraloub.blogspot.com

and one that is a heritage blog about the old photos and the stories of the people in them.
www.lauraloubheritage.blogspot.com

There are comments on the heritage one but they are all spam-type comments. I want to delete them and there is a little garbage can at the bottom of each comment but it just goes to a TrueFind spammy page. Should I just start over.

On the other one I can't find how to allow comments. I am just so confused! Yours all look SO cool. Are you just creating yours with your own expertise with HTML?

onyxelle
04-12-2006, 07:40 PM
okay..i found the slide,k found how to add it to my blog - but why is mine horizontal and y'alls are all vertical? argh!

Meg
04-12-2006, 07:56 PM
Victorious!! After hours of pouring through html formatting code, I found the Comments On/Off button in the Edit Post screen! :o

Isn't the Slide thingie cool? That's one of the main reasons I switched to Blogger, my old blog wouldn't allow anything outside their template to be embedded. Go into where you pasted the formatting code and find the width & height numbers halfway through. Switch them. I think it will end up width="200" height="600"

Let me know if you need help, I have all my formatting saved to a Notepad file, lol!

LOL, Laura, I spent most of the afternoon trying to figure out html and then found a little button that said Comments On/Off. Go into your setting and there is a tab for comments. You need to set it to allow anyone to comment, but I suggest also clicking on the Word Verification button, it will hugely reduce spam.

I don't know if my bunny story qualifies as humor...maybe you can ust laugh at me for making up stories about my garden but here it is...

The blog is in my signature. I tried to start a new blog just for scrapbook journaling but it just wouldn't post. I will try again tomorrow.

I am just so confused! Yours all look SO cool. Are you just creating yours with your own expertise with HTML?

LOL Laura! I spent hours trying to create a blog with whatever program comes with my SBC Yahoo account. After I couldn't figure out how to get a picture inserted, I gave up and went to blogger.com. This is like blogging for dummies. I used one of their templates and got started right away. I did have to figure out how to post my png files to my Yahoo web account so that I could link to them from the blog. For how much I use the computer I should be more html and internet savvy. But, such is life. For now I am content with a user friendly blog :)

I'm looking forward to checking out everyone's blog's when I get home from work tonight.

It looks like comments ARE turned on, but who knows. This is not an easy site to navigate.

Meg
04-13-2006, 07:47 AM
Canay, I think it's just Slide.com, but you can go to one of our and at the bottom there's a link button to take you to the right place.

Samara, thanks for joining us!!! Great story!

Laura, I wish I could see your screen. I think you're doing what I did, and are missing something that's easier than you're making it. If you have your comments turned on in the main comment settings screen, go into your edit posts screen. Edit each post and at the bottom of that area, there should be a button that says something like "comments for this post on/off". Since you adjusted your settings, you have to manually do the others. You should have comments from now on though.

Everyone, I'm so excited by the involvement here!! My Favorites list is getting loooooooong!! I'll be posting today's prompt in a bit!

Blogger has an option, somewhere in the settings about email. It has an option you can activate that lets you email your post in. I tried it today but it did something weird with the line breaks & I had to go back in through blogger & edit it. Not sure if I have something set wrong in my email that creates that or not.

Hi girls! Sorry I didn't get a chance to make the rounds yesterday (or update my own blog)! I'll be roaming this afternoon so get those blogs ready!

Again, on the weekends, you're on your own for blog ideas! Show us what you're working on, let us know what you and your families are doing, etc.

Plus, some of us will be celebrating Easter, if you do anything special for that, share your traditions. Or reflect on past Easters and family gatherings.

Whatever you write about, let us know here when you update. And have a great weekend!

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend! Welcome back to the week!

So, I took my daughter to school this morning, all excited to be there after a long week of vacation, and SURPRISE, they have one more day off! I read the calendar wrong apparently, although it never occurred to me to check if Spring Break would continue through Monday. So now I have one more day of full-time kiddos to entertain and my cleaning plans have gone out the window (oh darn!), we'll have to do some playing and enjoy this extra day instead!

What do you do when faced with an unexpected change (for good or bad) in plans? Does it throw you off completely or are you the type to roll with the punches? (Sharia, I know you just blogged about a similar occurrence, so give us an update, did life get better? Any unplaned benefits from spending the day with your husband instead of a free day to yourself?)

That's your prompt girls! I'll be updating later today and I'll post here when I'm done. Have fun writing!

On another note: my school district requires us to teach internet safety to all students. There is an EXCELLENT website available at no charge. I would suggest that anyone reading this who has a child (even up to age 18!!) who uses the internet should engage the child in the website. Here is the link:

Hi Pat! In this Scrap Blogs forum I post a daily thread with writing prompts. You can choose to use them or ignore them completely, but any day that you update your blog, let us know by posting in that day's thread, so we can come visit you! (Wow, that was a long sentence, I hope Judy doesn't see it!) I started this whole thing as a way to encourage people to write a little every day, but don't feel like you have to use my prompt.

Some of us have our blog links in our signatures, some people just give us a link in their posting when they update. Let us know if you need any help or have any more questions. Glad you're thinking of joining us!!!

My parents read to me a lot, especially at bedtime. WHen I was teaching I tried to get parents to read more to their children and for longer than when the child learns to read for himself. A child should be read to at 1-2 years above his or her independant reading level to challenge the intellect and imagination...and well into the sixth grade. For 6th, 7th and 8th grades I was lucky enough to have teachers who read a chapter a day from exciting books to the class. In high school, 11th and 12th grades Mr. McLaughlin read Shakespear to the class daily. I would just get CHILLS! He was my favorite teacher.

Looks like I just wrote another blog here. LOL Anyway, I did share in my blog, the books I have been reading this year so far.

Sorry I didn't blog yesterday. Hubby was home after working three days and he will be gone now for five days so it was the only evening we had to spend together. And gosh darn it I actually had to work at work and had no time to blog. What's up with that?

Just a funny story...I finally got up the nerve to share my blog with my hubby. He checked it out while he was at the firehouse. He called me up the day before yesterday and told me he checked out my blog but he had a question. He wanted to know if DH stood for dumb husband. We got a good laugh. Funny how the internet has developed a lingo on its own. And not everyone chats, crops and blogs :)

First of all, everyone think good thoughts for Stacey42 who is at the dentist RIGHT NOW getting a dreaded root canal!!!! :(

Now, your prompt for today involves photos too. Take a photo today of anything and tell us about it. It doesn't have to be art, just a candid of anyone, a pic of your desk, the flowers in your garden, yourself in the mirror, whatever. Then journal about the moment. Off you go!

First I want to say the my heart goes out to you Stacey42 (cringe)... nothing worse than the dentist! (Well, not much worse, anyways!)

I had a great and exciting blogging (honestly, who thought up that name?!) update!! LOL, probably only to me though :)

I have to say though, I sure am having a hard time figuring this blogging stuff out... like when I click on my link, the things not updated, but everyone else tells me that it is... so weird! And I lost the date across the top, and the Title to one of my posts.. I must say, I don't think I'm too blessed by the blogging gods!

Debra maybe you just need to find another site to blog? I really enjoy my yahoo 360 blog. Maybe that will be a better one for you.

MM I'm at work as well but I did take a pic this morning after I drop my daughter off at home and headed in to work. I was definately planning on using it as my Photo A Day posting, but your blog sugguestion is perfect and I'm am definately going to use it in my blog today as well. I will post here when I've updated it.

The photo is bad but the camera ran out of power so I didn't get chance to take another. I did the prompt ayway. We are waiting for Granddaughter #2 to arrive. Due date is May 1, 5, 0r 10, depending on who you talk to, but this Dr. induces when indicated and I think this baby will come really soon...like Monday. The first baby was induced 2 weeks early.

Anyway...I blogged a photo of the mommy-in-waiting.

GO RED WINGS!!!

***Stacey, I can't bring up your blog. Is there something wrong with the link?

May we also add something as a prompt? Or is Mommy Meg the only one who can add a prompt? I have something that came from my daily inspirational calendar that I would love to add.

If you'd like to jump in, please do! And I don't usually do specific prompts on the weekends, so those days are always up for grabs. Just please make sure to do a date specific thread in this Scrap Blog forum and I usually post the link to the thread in the previous day's thread.

You can do yours today if you want!

I have a daily calendar that includes a quote from Scripture along with a statement that complements the quote. Today's statement jumped out at me: Life's three most helpful words: "I forgive you."

Here's this weekend's blog prompt:

Is there someone who you need to forgive? Maybe it's even yourself. Was there a time that you decided to forgive someone? Did you do it? How did you feel afterwards?

I'll post mine in a short time.

I have been through some really bad things in my life, stuff that others have done to me, the worse ones were from family members so forgiveness is not an easy one for me..........

Still trying to "let go" on this end, don't know if or when forgiveness might come into this picture.

So I don't know what I'll be blogging about this weekend. If I updated it I will post it here.

On the brighter side I did update yesterday with a pic and quick story of my daughter and why I am soooooo proud of her :)

I have updated my blog. Haven't quite kept with the weekend theme, but I will get to that point soon.

I didn't realize there was a theme this weekend. Cool. I updated my J yesterday but it was just random stuff. However now that i think about it, I could expand on part of that for the theme.

I couldn't comment on your blog site because it's a little too much to sign up to so many different blog places just to leave comments so I hope you don't mind me commenting here.

Wow that must have been so hard on you. But after reading through your entire post I think you did the right thing as hard as it was.

Thank you for sharing that with us.

Dee

We have someone that bad at work, my place of employment is so politically connected these people never get what they deserve and the people that suffer very rarely get justice. I have thought of quitting many time, but the needs of my family outweigh those feelings for the time being.

I think it was wonderful that you were able to forgive. And your right they don't fret over it and we are the only ones hurting. So you do need to let go sometimes. But it's very very hard.

Thanks for sharing that story with us.

Dee

I just wanted to thank you, CompooperTeacher (I'm sorry, I don't know your "real" name!), for jumping in and doing a prompt for this weekend. My weekend blogging is always inconsistent and I figure everyone else's is too, so I don't usually post a specific prompt. How fun to get inspiration from someone else!!

That said, I appologize for not blogging this weekend! :o All my computer time has been spent working on my class and my brain is empty!!

I did want to comment on your prompt though. I appreciate the theme, because even though I didn't write, it really made me think. It is such a personal issue for me but because my extended family reads my blog, and they are the ones that would be applicable to the theme, I won't be writing about it there. I didn't want you to think that I didn't like and appreciate your prompt.

Thanks again! And I'll post tomorrow's prompt in the morning!

That's okay, Meg. I can completely understand why you wouldn't want others to read your post; thinking about it is a step in the right direction.

What I read on my inspirational calendar was so thought-provoking that I thought it would be good fodder for a blog. I imagine that it's tough to come up with topics every day - LOL. Is that where you got the idea for us to blog about inspiration?????

By the way . . . I'm Dodie.

Looking forward to tomorrow's prompt!

Lots of people talk to animals.... Not very many listen, though.... That's the problem. ~Benjamin Hoff, The Tao of Pooh

Use the theme of animals/pets or this quote as your prompt.

Happy Monday to you!

Dodie huh? I've never met anyone named that except my sister in law. That's not her real name, either. Her name is Dorothy- but her grandparents have called her Dodie her entire life. :)

blogger is acting very janky today. I set up a blog for a new creative team that I'm on as a way to keep in touch and post our layouts for the designer - and it's been behaving very unfriendly today

Sandersmr

Yes - Blogger is being skanky today! It's not saving my post - which was as follows:

Give Me Restraint!

Oscar has been missing Buddy as much as the rest of us. He quit eating for a couple of days and has been moping around the house - finally starting to come out of it a little this week, but then we've had to leave him alone a lot this weekend. So while I was at the International Festival, I went by the Dalmation Rescue League's booth. They had the cutest 3-month old female Rottweiler. She is amazingly well-behaved for a puppy - already knows sit and sorta knows come - probably as well as Oscar knows come.

She would definitely give Oscar a run for his money. She will grow into a big dog. She would give Oscar someone to play with and tussle with. She's still a puppy. She's so cute. She will grow into a big dog!

OK, can you see that I'm trying to show some restraint here?

Darn it, you figured me out! That's how I choose my blog prompts! I have itty bitty cameras inside all of your heads and I steal your ideas! That's how I get my scrapping ideas, too! bwahahahahahha!

Ok, seriously now, I'm off to do my blog, I'm just prepping some pictures.

Maggie, I knew this would be a tough one for you and I'm sorry for that. But I'm happy to hear you're looking for a new friend for Oscar, I'm sure he's really lonely.

I would still be Dorothy if my name was Dorothy. But I was burdened with Dolores. Yuck.

Funny thing, though. I always said that if I moved somewhere where NO ONE knew me, I would start to go by my middle name (Elaine). When we moved to Florida 26 years ago, my husband was the only person here who knew me. A perfect time to start going by Elaine, right? Did I do it? No, of course not. So I am still Dodie. Probably will always be Dodie. I can't believe how many people mispronounce it -- it's DOUGH-DEE. But I get DOODIE, DOTTY, you name it.

Sure wish I was Amanda, Jane, Melody, Anna, Mary, or Sue. Dolores - yuck! I've even considered a legal name change, but I think it would make my parents upset.

I spent the weekend working on layouts for the CK Top Ten New Faces Scraplift Challenge so I had no time to blog. But I just got a short one up since the topic was animals. My eyes are actually burning from looking at the computer screen. I need some sleep. Tomorrow I need to catch up on chores before my hubby gets back from being gone for five days. Which is why I could put in a marathon scrapping spree. But it will be back to reality on Wednesday:)
