View Full Version : new PSE tutorials in v2 or 3?
How many of you would rather have new tutorials in v2 or v3? I'm thinking v3 because it's the latest version, and I really don't want to have to update v2 tutorials later with v3 shots.
I can't have both versions open at once, so it's twice as much work to include screen shots for both versions in one tutorial.
I can add a few version-based shots if things are really different, and of course mention differences in writing, but...
v3 has a different looking interface, but toolwise it's pretty similar to v2. Most of the upgrades were in photo organization.
What do you think?
Okay, I've been doing v3 tutorials, and it's a lot easier because I don't feel like, "I'm just going to have to redo this later," if I had used v2.
Thanks for voting! Keep an eye out for new PSE classes and tutorials ;)
I just updated this PS tutorial with PSE screen shots on how to add an intricate border to images

I haven't decided to upgrade yet , as I haven't learned nearly enough of what I can do in PSE2
Donna
No, you don't need to upgrade. The new scrap-related features in PSE3 are so similar; it's mostly the photo-organization tools that are new.
If there's a major difference, I point it out. The PSE3 Creating Realistic Elements will be perfectly compatible with v2. I'm just trying to give the new stuff as much longevity as possible, and from what I've observed it seems PSE3 was a huge hit with a lot of DSPers using it now.

Being new here and with anything didital, PSE 3 is the only one I have used, and currently using, so thats obivously my choice. What I have seen from demo's PSE2 is very similiar? So what do I know?

PSE = Photoshop Elements
PSE 2 = Photoshop Elements 2
PSE 3 = Photoshop Elements 3
Photoshop Elements is the "home" version of Adobe Photoshop.
PSE 2 often comes bundled with better Digital Cameras and scanners.

I also hear that the conversion to PSE3 from 2 may cause loss of some of the added elements. Will you explain how we can overt the problems. Does 3 have Raw converter capabilitites?
like how cheap? Have you tried used at half.com ebay or online bookstore like hamiltonbook.com?
Amazon.com has a rebate, check the review here for a link to it.

Hey Wacky,
I'm sure someone has all ready helped you with this but I didn't have any problems when I upgraded. I have both programs on my computer. If you have any other questions I'd be glad to help if I can!
wacky, did the email I sent help you out? haven't heard back yet
one irritating thing about two versions is you can only have one open at a time! PSP can have all versions open at once, not sure about PS

So Emma - are you going to do a class for PSE4? There are some new features that are quite interesting and a bit daunting.

Hi Emma, well after I wrote you there was a rumble that Adobe was releasing v4 so I purchased it for $70. Having upgraded from PSE2 to 4 I am having quite a time with the learning curve but I think if I take a couple of your classes it will speed that up. Was not ignoring you but right after the upgrade we took a little trip. Wait until you hear this! Never let a man mess with your camera equipment. DH ask "what lens do you want to take with you?" I said "only one lens this trip the 24/120mm". Well, I ended up hawling the camera bag etc. only to ended up with the 105 mm. Could do nothing much with it. Although I did get a good picture of a banana spider. Thanks so much for your assistance. I think I will go take a look at what is offered for next month. Thanks again Emma
Yep, stupid Adobe and their stupid upgrades, LOL!
I closed the poll, PSE 2 is considered obsolete now, though any current PSE 2 instructions in my classes will remain. I'm going to start replacing screen shots in DSU 160 with PSE 4, giving the same PSE 2 and PSE 3 notes.
I am doing a PS class first, but if I ever get that done, the new PSE classes will certainly be v 4. And the current PSE 3 classes will be updated with v 4 as soon as I can.
I don't care if money grows on trees, I just wish TIME did!

I just got to a point where I could add borders to photos in my sleep using PSE2 so I thought maybe I would try it with 4, ooops! no can do. The adjustment layer and modify work differently. I just hate this hunt and peck learning. Is your tut for borders compatible with 3/4? There is'nt much difference in 3 and 4 is there? Guess I can tell by reviewing the tut. marilyn
