Featured Designer Challenge by Cathie and Formby (the Luvaducks)

Who's up for the Featured Designer Challenge for August? Well, the newsletter is not out yet, but a little bird told me that

the featured designer this month is BETHY NIXON.

This challenge uses, exclusively, items from the Designer of the Month featured in the DSP Monthly Newsletter. The products used can be purchased or from the freebie gallery, but everything used on your layout must be from the featured designer. (No items from pre-designer days, such as SNL kits, etc.)

Rules last month seemed to work well - so we are going with those!

5 points will be earned the FIRST time YOU use any product created by The Featured Designer of the Month for THIS challenge. (By product we mean:- Page Kit, AOP, Plopper, Plopper Plus, Quick Click, Alpha, Word Art, Overlays or Groupie).

1 point will be earned for subsequent times a product, by the Featured Designer, is used.

You can earn all your points on one layout if you like, but remember a product may be counted only once in each layout (for example, if you used three elements from Kit A on one layout, you still only count the kit once). If you use eg 3 products from the Featured Designer on one LO for the first time on this challenge you can accumulate 15 points and if the same LO has elements from 3 other kits that you've used before in this challenge, you accumulate a further 3 points.

Remember you MUST NOT include products from any other Designer in your LO other than Word Art and fonts. The Word Art and Fonts from other designers will not count towards your point total. Using products from any other designer other than Word Art and Fonts will disqualify your layout.

Doubling, tripling, quadrupling for other challenges is encouraged since this has NO GALLERY but you MUST post a link here.

Even though the layouts can be in any gallery, they must be properly credited (See the post on crediting) and they must be linked in this forum. If they are not properly credited, with the kit linked to the store, they will not count! Please track all layouts in a single post. Include the layout name, and kits used on the LO, and the number of points. Keep a running track of the points at the end of your post.

Example:
20 Points "My Lovely Layout" using Kit A, Kit B , Kit C and Kit D
15 Points "My Magical Layout" using Kit E, Kit F and Kit G
12 Points "My Precious Layout" Using Kit H, Kit A, Kit B , Kit C, Kit D ,Kit E, Kit F and Kit G
47 points total

Deadline for submission of layouts: Friday, August 31st, 2007 at Midnight EST (DSP Time) Draw will be held on Saturday, September 1st: and be posted in this forum no later than Sunday, September 2nd. We will PM the winners.

Winner of most points gets a DSP Gift Cert for one page kit. There will be a random draw from remainder of posters for another kit. There will be a posting bonus for anyone posting 5 or more layouts.

Crediting Your Layouts:

There are two parts to crediting your layouts: 1) In the photo details section of your posted layout, you must add store links to the designer kits you are using and 2) in the KEYWORDS you must add the kit keywords which are a number key followed by the letters dsp.

Creating links to the kits:
In the photo details section, add a link to the kit in the store.
Click here to link to the store The FABULOUS DSP Store
Type the name of the kit in the search box and click search
When the kit comes up (or a list of kits) then click on it to open it up
Cut and paste the url from the browser address bar into the photo details section of your posted layout.
Add text to put the name of the kit and the designer name
See below to find out how to make the links look pretty.

Creating Keywords:
When you are in the store looking at a kit, there's a link on the page that says "Click Here to see layouts using this product." If you include the store keyword in the keywords section of your posted layout, then your layout will be one of the ones shown in the gallery.

When you copy-and-paste the url into the photo details section, you'll notice the end of it says "&products_id=" with a number. That number is the kit's keyword
Type the number into the keywords section of your posted layout and immediately follow the numbers with dsp. It will look like 9999dsp.

There is also a Keywords by Category link in the store here:
Keywords by Category This is also pretty handy for taking you straight to the link to the kit in the store.

Making Links Look Pretty:
Type to the end of the link
Type the name of the kit and the designer
Add at the end. (replace X with U)
It will look like Bright Memories Page Kit by Bethy Nixon (but replace the X with U)

I'd type out an example with the letter U in the right places but it turns into a link every time

Beth has a total of 85 products in the DSP shop 82 of which are kits, QCs etc. I've made up a text file of them all with links to each one in the shop. . . .

omg dawn!!! You just did 90% of the work for this challenge!!! thankyou! Very kind and very helpful. I do the same thing with all my credits so I know how LONG this takes! The only thing about the tiny urls is they don't show the keyword so people should still look those up. :)

Scootch over JD and let me sit by you. : ) I'm working on my heritage album, so this should be easy to pull out Beth's kits - they're not dusty in the least because I use them all the time - and since she uses my favorite color (teal) often, I love, love, love them!!!

Here's a little trick I use when posting credits in layouts...I go to a forum (like this one) and click on "Go Advanced". Then I type in the name of the kit and designer (or copy and paste it from the TOU document in the kit) and highlight the kit name. Then I click on the hyperlink tab (that looks like two chain links hooked together), copy and paste the link to the kit in the store. The only thing left to do is to remove the Quotes (") from the beginning and end of the link. Now it's ready to go in the description. I only do this once for each kit. Then I copy the whole thing from the forum and paste it into the TOU document and it's there next time I use the kit. (I don't post it obviously, just delete it when I'm done.) That way I already have the forum open so when my page uploads, I can post the link in the forum - and I don't have to remember the html code to make it work right. Just make sure you remove the quotes or the link goes to a Wikipedia page about html. LOL! Hope that helps someone...

You can post your layouts any time - but they must all be posted in a single post. WHen you have a new layout, you can just edit your original post and add the layout there. THis makes it easier for calculating posts and knowing when to send posting bonuses.

Lynnette and Bethy - I have a kit named Settled In and the tou says "Settled In
Created by ©2007 Beth Nixon and Elizabeth Weaver" but I can't find it in the store or in the freebies. Where did I get it?!?!?!?!? And is it allowable for this challenge since Z is a co-designer? Help!

I think we will go ahead and allow it! It's a great kit and Bethy certainly put her heart and soul into it - so go ahead! Scrap your heart out with it and count up those points!!

Hello Everyone -

Mars and I are doing a member-hosted chat tonight after SNL - the topic is "Scraps of Me - Scraps of You!" and we are planning loads of fun! The time will be (I think and hope I calculated correctly, but double check the times outside US):

8pm Pacific * 11pm East Coast * 4am England * 5am South Africa * 1pm Syndey * 3pm Auckland

Question...we can use wordart from other designers, but can we use overlays? I just posted a LO that included a non-Beth overlay, but I don't want to be disqualified...should I remove this LO???

Sorry - no overlays :) We made an exception with the word art because it is a critical part of most layouts and there are very few designers who have word art. Sorry about that - but you could alway remove the overlay.

each new kit of Becky's we bought that month - so wondering if it's the same again this month, there's nothing about it in the original message about
this month's challenge? :pray:

So sorry that got missed Dawn. The answer is yes, you may add an extra point to your total for every new kit of Beths that you buy between 1 - 31 August and use it in this months challenge.

Alright, I am reading and it seems that for every kit, add-on, alpha, etc that is used, it's 5 pts each. Now I am seeing 1 pt/2 pts. What's that about? *gets to scrapping*

Oh! I did 2 LOs for Inspiration - Little Ones challenge. I used the same kit (by Bethy of course). I want to know can this be counted as two (or 10 pts) or just once since I used the same kit? *slow at the moment* HELP! :confused:

Yes Chellie, 5 pts for the 1st time you use the kit, and 1 pt for ever time you use it after that.

For the new Kit, 5 pts for using it the first time - plus a 1 bonus point for buying it this month, and 1 pt for for ever time you use it after that. HTH.

Hello everyone - just to clear up a misconception and to make everyone's lives easier -

1) We need a link to your layout in this thread
2) Include the title and a list of the page kits, etc. used
3) The page kits etc. must be linked ON YOUR LAYOUT
4) It would be nice, but is not required that you link the items in this forum.

Hope this makes your lives easier. I had misunderstood the question, hence the confusion.

I've just posted Beth's list of links to her kits in a new thread in her forum so I'll be deleting the list from this thread in a moment. It's uptodate as of today. The list includes the links plus all the DSP numbers for you to cut & paste into your LOs when you post them, saves an awful lot of work - all you have to do is remember where the list is on your computer :tup:

I have spent a very productive morning going through all your layouts and commenting. I have commented on most of them, I think, although towards the end I may have looked at a few and not commented. However, everyone has at least one or two comments on their layouts.
