I just put some layout on canvas and loved how they turned out - and so inexpensive too!

You have just given me an idea - I have canvases left over from paper scrapping days that i was going to use to make a treasure box. But I never would use them for fear of messing them up. Well, digital means you can't go wrong! Thanks so much for this idea!!!

I do have a couple of questions ... I have my layout made and printed. How long did you let it dry before using the ModPodge? Did you have to seal the ink beforehand so it wouldn't bleed? (I have inkjet, so wondering ...)
Did you painstakingly make sure the edges were exactly even with the sides of the canvas or is there a way to even it up after you adhere it? I am actually thinking of sanding the edges a little, but not sure yet.
Also, my canvases are stapled on the outside edge ...( ) - anyone have ideas on what to do with that eyesore?
Okay, can't wait to try this!!!

canvas stapled on the edges....take some ribbon and put around the edge...then you can use ribbon for hanging and / or make a bow and put on the top of the frame on the edge not on the picture. a double bow....I would suggest ribbon with the wire edge for the bow. You can use a ribbon the same size or smaller you could also put on a wider ribbon with a narrower ribbon on top of it.

Excellent solution! Thanks!
I have done one for my youngest son, but as I was Modge Podging, my oldest came in to 'help' me. So instead of grabbing the modpodge brush, I grabbed the one i was using with white paint  . It still is good (except for the white stripe across his FACE!!) But still, it worked, will probably start over again, but I got the basics down now.

Also, one more question, is there an 'easy' way to get the edges of your photo to line up/blend in with your canvas. On Amanda's, it looks perfect like the photo is painted on. So any tips on that?

just make sure your photo is the same size or just a tiny bit smaller than your canvas. by using a really thick paper it was much easier to line it up exactly as i needed.

Hi Amanda and Ladies, here is a picture of 3 views of my modge podged photo on a canvas frame or block. I took the pictures in different places, outside on the patio inside in the foyer and then on my counter in the kitchen. Trying to make it so you can see it in different lighting. I didn not put ribbon on the frame of this one as I wanted to put it on an easel. Others that I want to put on a wall I will hang with ribbons or on a hanger on the wall. I have several ideas that I want to try. Thanks Amanda. Here is the link.

I did one of these a few months ago as a gift for a friend who moved overseas, I used photos of her favourite area of NZ and used a sandpaper block to gently sand over the edges to get rid of any teeny bit of overlap and give it a very subtle sanded edge look. I didnt take photos before I posted it off to her, but I'm asking her to take one for me. I love this idea and am going to do more now I've been inspired by those here!

Carma: I can't get your link to work. Am I doing something wrong?

This sounds like a fantastic idea! Thanks Amanda for bringing this up!

UPDATE: For those who are interested, Mod Podge now has a 'brushstroke texture' version - haven't used it, but thought if it works like is sounds like it would, would be perfect for doing this type of thing!

also, they now have several versions: glitter, satin finish, outdoor durable finish, fabric finish, etc, etc.
How cool is that???
