I'm started a thread on each of the (main) programs.

I'm interested to know the highs and lows of each program, how happy you are with your program, or what you'd rather have. Thanks!

Hi, Jules here,

I am a PSP 8.1 user. I have only been using a computer for 15 months and bought PSP 8.0 at end of October 2003. I bought it just as the bugs, hitches and glitches were emerging, somehow I didn't register with JASC and didn't know about them. Being the dummy I am I thought it was something wrong with the computer (not even 1 year old at the time) until Amy at SBB told me about the updated version available. I registered with JASC and was sent the 8.1 updated CD immediately, their customer service is great imo. I have never used any other programme like it so have nothing to compare it to. When I first opened the prog. I thought I'd never get my head around it, but slowly it all falls into place. I still have so much to learn within PSP but time will cure that. The only problem I have found is if I create LO's at 300 dpi it slows the computer to a crawl - I bought more memory and it did speed up a bit but not enough for impatient me. So far I don't print my LO's -instead I put them on CD's so I use 200 dpi and have no problems with speed. Anyone else using PSP 8.1 had this problem??

I have used Paint Shop Pro since version 3 (back in the mid 90s), and now have version 8.1. It has taken to shutting down, which leaves me frustrated, but it's taught me to save more often (which may be the problem - I was expecting the program to remember all of the changes I had made). One thing PSP doesn't allow is a large text box that you can edit if you change your mind. So I do text on a separate layer so that I can delete it and start over.

I bought DIP9 cuz I'd heard so many talk about it, but after PSP, it doesn't allow me the freedom I'm used to. My version of CorelDraw is OLD - it's version 3! But I always turned to it if I wanted to put text on a path or work with vectors -- now PSP has that feature. PSP does a good job of helping me get true colors from scans of 40+ year old photos. I also like the browser that comes with PSP, allowing me to look for embellishments on my hard drive.

I have never used any of the other programs. I got PSP (v.3) a while back because it was cheap. I feel like I have grown up right along with PSP. I am happy with it and I haven't outgrown it yet, lol. I can't really do any comparisons because I have never used any of the other programs out there.

I started with PSP7 last summer and now have 8.1. I love it! I thought about buying photoshop at the educational discount because there are so many tutorials for photoshop. But I feel there is still so much I don't know about PSP. I want to learn PSP forwards and backwards before I try any other programs.

I love the browser in PSP. I also love being able to grab a color from an image outside of PSP so I don't need color cop or something like that. I love the new things you can do with the vector text. Such an improvement from version 7. I love tubes and brushes and vectors and colorizing and adjustment layers and image effects and plugins and...

I did find that PSP8 does not like 300ppi. I now create my layouts at 200ppi and it works fabulous. I have been printing my layouts and they do not look any different than the layouts printed at 300ppi. When I print I always select the proper paper and indicate to print at the "best" quality. So, although this would be a drawback for some, it is not a problem for me.
