Anyone here use GIMP on Windows? It's free (stands for Gnu Image Manipulation Program). It works very much like Photoshop, and includes layer masks and channels (ie. stuff not in Elements) and also has many filters not part of Elements. So far it works great for me. I own PSE 5.0, but I don't own CS3. But using GIMP and PSE 5 together may be pretty powerful. It would be somewhat awkward to move a scrapbook page from one to the other, but cheaper than buying CS3.

I plan to take my laptop to the Sept 16 crop with GIMP installed, so I can show it to people and possibly use it for projects that day.

Hey.....welcome to DSP, yes there are some of us that use (or try to) GiMP. I am just learning to use it...we have another thread around here on this same subject...let me see if I can find it and add it here....brb

here it is.....http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14334
lots of help around here from these lovely people. I hope to get the hang of this program soon....used to use Microsoft Digital Image Starter 2006, no more updates, so time to learn a new program but its very different from what I'm used to using so I am looking for GiMP for dummies or maybe even a mentor. Hope you like it around here. Everyone is great!!!

I'm just getting started with GIMP. I completed a DSP using an online tutorial and thought 'this is great!' Eager to start another page, I find myself at a standstill. Suddenly the program will not allow me to use the MOVE tool. The move icon has a square and a circle with a line through it beside it when I hold the cursor over the layout. I tried reopening GIMP and restarting my computer, as well as opening several different things. Can't figure it out. Have you ever seen this?

Just some random thoughts:
(1) I assume you clicked on the title bars of all the Gimp windows to bring them forward.
(2) Perhaps all of your layers were locked?
(3) Check the help to see if the move tool has modes of some sort, or if there are multiple tools in the 'move' button of the toolbox.

Hi- I am staying with my sister and have downloaded GIMP for her to use. I use PSP normally, so it has taken only a couple of sessions to find my way around GIMP. It seems excellent for free!

Hi,
I use gimp--on Linux though. It is a powerful tool and I am constantly experimenting. Best part is it's free!! :)
Happy scrapping!
