Sorry this is late! I try to have my examples done, so I can post them at the same time as the sketch, but I'm completely stumped on this one! I have my photos chosen and placed, but can't decide on kits & elements. So, maybe you can inspire me...

This month we're doing another push for publication. Using Becky Higgins' current sketch, for the March Creating Keepsakes magazine. It's due by October 12th, so you have over a month to work on it. Just a tip, though, it's usually best to get pages in as early as possible. Editors start choosing their favorites as they come in, you want to be one of the first to catch their eye!

http://www.creatingkeepsakes.com/images/submit_ideas_images/21_image.jpg

Details from CK:
1. Select a sketch from those pictured here and, using it as a guide, create a well-executed, memorable layout to submit to CK. Please note: This sketch is for our March 2008 issue. You aren’t required to use seasonal pictures, but they are a plus.

Use solid-colored cardstock, patterned paper or textured paper—whatever works best for your layout. Choose the page size (8 1/2" x 11" or 12" x 12") you prefer. You can scrapbook black-and-white or color photos—it doesn't matter.

NEW!: We're now publishing single pages inspired by one side of the sketch as well. Let's see what you can do!

2. Special Instructions

March 2008 Instructions: The idea with this sketch is that the layout has a visual division – top & bottom halves can be different colors, whether contrasting or a subtle difference in color. All of the pictures (about 9 will work well) meet in the middle, leaving the top and bottom of the layout empty. You could also treat the empty spaces with embellishments if you want. Due October 12, 2007.

3. When your layout is complete, e-mail an electronic version to editorial@creatingkeepsakes.com. Be sure to include "Becky's Sketch" in your subject line. Note: Attached files MUST be less than 300K. Include a supplies list for the layout as well.

Well I have one for this and it came together pretty easily with Beth's "Read All About It" page kit!

Thanks Meg! I always need two page sketches; love them! I varied this one just a smidge; how much variation do you think there can be before it's not submittable?

Oh how cool that this is the sketch! Would you believe I was checking out the sketch on the CK website last night and decided I wanted to try it? Now I REALLY have reason to give it a whirl! I'm ready for something other than back to school....I've been on a roll this week. Also, one other thing about these sketches...have you noticed the past few months they seem to publish many "variations" of the sketch? For example, just using one page or the other, rotating it, etc? Just an observation. :-)

I don't think I'll submit it to be published (I'm just not that good), but I used the sketch! Here's my page Mardi Gras Mambo (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=212388&cat=500&ppuser=80280). I'm also using the page for the featured designer challenge.

I have absolutely no intention of entering the magazine contest, Meg, but thank you for providing the challenge. Volcanoes (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=213632&nocache=1) are my topic.

Here's my layout for The Next Step Challenge:

Our Vegas Wedding Cake (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=214831&cat=2610)

This is my first time with a two-page layout. Not sure yet if I'll submit or not. Think that I may need more practice first. But as quanita said "you never know!"

You're doing great, girls! I'm loving your layouts!

caraffle, CK puts out calls for submissions on their website. I just decided that I liked their sketch this month better than the one I had made, so I used it for the Next Step challenge. Plus, we need to get some more digital layouts in that magazine.

So, GO, GO, GO!!!!!

I finished the first one but didn't really like it so I did another using the same photos. Maybe I will start from scratch again.
