question about printing pics

hi everyone, i purchased a HP Photosmart D5063 to print my normal pictures that i take out.. anyway.. for some reason, when i print pics it sorta looks dotty, not REALLY dotty but like the edges of the people are not smooth like when they are proffesionally done, what do you think is causing this? i paid a lot for the printer and now i think i must have bought a bad one!!

what qualitity did you choose for the print? for p hotos choose Maximum/Best (and it'll warn you that will take a long time to print), and use a photo color cartridge in place of the tri-color cartridge.
