Hi,

I'm an extreme newbie (a couple of months with PSE 2.0) so I was fooling around with patterns and textures. I found some AI files in my patterns folder. I believe that I downloaded them at the very beginning - not knowing the proper file extensions. I tried to delete them today and windows keeps telling me that another program is using them (although no programs are open). Could it be Corel Photo House files? How can I delete these files? Even a Restart with them in the Recycle Bin didn't do it.

Thanks,

Marcy

PS I love it here!

AI files are small and wouldn't take up much space if you leave them there. I have over 50 AI files in my Patterns folder in PS. So yours may belong there. Anyway to delete them in Windows all you need to do is click on the filename while in Explorer and then hit the Delete key.

AI files are Adobe Illustrator files (vector)

Marcy ,

Don't feel bad--I don't even know what an AI is----I've been scrapping for about 6 months---I'm always learning and YES this is a GREAT PLACE!

Stick around-You'll love it-

Donna ;)

Thanks, Donna! Actually I didn't know what an AI file was either. I right clicked on one of the files and clicked properties and it said the file type was AI.

Thanks, Matt, for letting me know that they are Adobe Illustrator files...so I guess they belong there??? I guess if I need them, I'll need to reinstall PSE. The funny thing is that the icon is a picture of a lady. Everything I've seen so far in Adobe Photoshop Elements has the picture of the sunflower. That's another reason why I thought it was something I downloaded.

Thanks for all the help and welcomes! This is a nice, friendly place!

Marcy

The Illustrator icon is a lady, with the flowing tan hair

Just leave them in your patterns folder because you can use them as textures for backgrounds and other objects

If you want to delete them, you could try booting into Safe Mode (hit F8 while booting). Maybe you have a program running in the background that's "using" those files.

Do you have Illustrator?

No, I don't have Illustrator. I think I downloaded these somehow or something...maybe as textures. I restored them. Thanks for the help!
