I am making a scrap album of my son's Bar Mitzvah and I am in a rut.
I picked a great kit (La Boheme by Rene Bross) to use but I am getting bored of just using it and I would like to use a lot of my stash.
I am afraid by going way from my look the album will loose its formal look. I have incorporated kits that have similar colors.
Do you think by changing colors I will change the elegant feel to the album.

Shalom my friend.... I think using the kit and changing the colors it would still have the feel you are looking for because it would still hold its elegance. at least I think it would. Have you tried to change the color and see if it hold the feel that you are looking to get? I would try experimenting with it and see what happens..... just my thoughts but worth a try.

Whilst I've never tried a formal or especially elegant album I do change kits throughout albums. Mainly I've done travel ones but I usually just try and make the facing pages match each other so there are no jarring clashes. Nobody ever looks at more than two pages at once. :)
You can also bring cohesiveness to your album with other elements besides the kit. For example, you could use a similar sketch (just rotated a few ways) throughout the layout. Or use the same font for the title and journaling. Or have other similar design elements...
That is one way to be able to change kits but keep things similar!
