I know I can zip files, but is there another way to make the files smaller? I made some background papers....I guess they are called ploppers. I wanted to upload them to my gallery, but they are so big. 86 meg, 90 meg and 20 meg. Is it the textures that make it so big?
Thanks!
Marcy

What program are you using?
Go to Tutorials, Beginners, Resizing your layout, you have program choices of PS, PSP or DIP.
Hope this helps.

here's the link

Use Image>Resize>Image Size and type in the size you want, around 500px tall.
Instead of saving as the PS tutorial says, use File>Save for Web and mess with the Quality slider until the fiesize is under 100k. Then it'll save it as a small jpg image with 72dpi, perfect for sharing on the web.
FWIW, zipping jpg images doesn't make them any smaller. They're already compressed, and zipping can't compress them more. It's great for data files, but for images the only benefit is allowing multiple files to be tied into one file for easier download.
DSP only requires the file type to be jpg and under 125k
Have fun, and let us know if you have any questions while resizing them, and copy and paste the URL link into this thread so we can go see your work!

Thanks for the info about zipping jpg files. I didn't know that. Thanks a bunch for the tip about saving for the web and using the sliders. I saved these at 450 pixels before I read your reply.
Since I made these completely from scratch, can I share them here - ie put them in the freebies area? The reason that I ask is because I got the ideas from CK magazine (an ad or submission). They are not identical - the background paper is a little different, etc, however the layout is the same. Is that OK? Hmmm...maybe I should post this question in another forum since this is the software forum. lol
Thanks for the help and the welcome!
The background papers are in my gallery:

I hope you like them! They aren't perfect. I'm new and learning each time I do something...but I am having a great time!

nice job, glad you got things uploaded.
The Freebies section on this site is only open to team members, just because quality control takes so much time for member submissions (checking dpi, checking transparent backgrounds, getting full size and sample size, uploading, linking, you get it...)
There's a Yahoo group we refer to called Computer Scrapping Elements that shares freely. You get the attachments right in your inbox, and can view the files by opening before you save, and only keep the stuff you love.
If you're interested, there's an address I can dig up...somwhere :)
Welcome! Glad you're having fun!

I understand about the quality control. That makes sense. I found a yahoo group for scrapbook elements, but they haven't approved my sub yet. Thanks for telling me about it!
