This was working fine for me until last week. I use PSP8.

I create a new image, select the fill tool, select a color with the eye-dropper, and then fill in the page. I thin go to Effects - Texture Effects -Texture. I choose my texture (they all have this problem) and press "OK." Then, absolutely nothing happens excupt an error message that says "An error has occurred while trying to write to the file." Do you have any idea what the problem could be? I'm not having any other issues.

Thank you!

I havent used PSP8 for a long time and havent got it on my computer anymore but I use PSP9. Have you tried resetting to the defaults? Maybe it is a memory issue and you need more RAM. As you can see I am not much help!! There are lots of people here who use PSP who may chime in soon for you!

Thanks for the response.

I've tried "Reset to Default" in the "Texture" Window. Is there somewhere else I should try? I'm pretty new to using this software.

I have 1 GB of RAM, and I have this problem even after a clean boot and only opening the one image in PSP. It's always possible I need more memory, but I find it surprising that once I started seeing this problem, I see it all the time instead of just when I have a hundred windows open (I tend to leave everything open until I start hitting performance issues).

Mirla ....

I'd save my plugins, brushes, presets and anything else you've added to your My PSP folder and re-install PSP. It's drastic ... but I can't imagine living without textures.

Then carefully add your customizations back. For the life of me, I can't imagine what setting you might have tweaked that would cause textures to fail, so I'm thinking it's probably time for drastic action to get it back working.

Did you install new software or anything since it worked last? An upgrade to Windows? Maybe something else hammered a file PSP needed.

Make sure you have your serial number before you uninstall it. Hmmm, PSP 8 had a serial number on the case/CD, didn't it? Anyway, if it does, just make sure you have it before you do anything at all.

I had version 9 go belly up on me after a particularly bad crash, and even with Jasc's help, I could NEVER get it to install correctly again. I reverted to PSP 7 for a few weeks while I waited for PSP X to arrive. [Which was no fun ... it wouldn't open my PSP 9 documents at all]. I had a very hosed registry in that computer.

Remember, anything in your My PSP folder under My Documents should be backed up somewhere else, and anything in your plugins folder should be backed up, too. If you have added tubes, brushes and other files in other places, it's a good time to back them up to be safe. I'm not sure what PSP will remove when it gets un-installed.

0. Backup all your stuff
1. completely uninstall psp through the control panel
2. completely remove the psp folder in program files, and rename the one in My Documents if it is still there.
3. Jasc used to have a registry fixer upper called ZapJasc, if they still have it available from support, I'd use it.
4. reboot
5. Pull out your PSP CD and install it all over again.

Your other alternative is to just say, "Honey, it looks like I'm going to need that new PSP upgrade after all. It's on sale right now for $59 to existing owners..."

It may be well worth the time to just plop down $59 rather than go through all this.

Hmmm... Unfortuantely, I'm not sure where my CD even is. It was installed on my computer new from Dell (Maybe 2003) so I never would have even had it out once. I looked for it, and I found Photo Album 4 and not this one. I'll keep looking. It's got to be here somewhere.

In the meantime, I was wondering whether installing the new trial version would wreck my existing version any more than it already is.

Also, if I want to buy the upgrade version, will the installation be happy about the fact that I already have version 8 installed, or will I need to find a key somewhere?

Thanks

I had 8 and 9 installed at the same time and there was no problem at all. I love the newer versions of psp like X, X1 and X2 just came out. I have used X and XI as trials and thought they were great. Jasc sold out to Corel so that is the manufacturer now of PSP.

Yes, you could go to File > Preferences > Reset Preferences and check the first four boxes there. You'll lose any file locations you've added to File > Preferences > File Locations and any customizations you've made to the workspace, but it might help.

Also, have you installed all the patches to PSP 8? Your version should be 8.10 (see Help > About and Help > Jasc Software Online > Check for Updates).

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. Using "Reset Preferences" has fixed the problem.

By the way, I am using version 8.10, and I may still look into downloading the demo of X2. Since 8 seems to be working again, I'll probably wait for my X-mas list, though.

Thanks again to everyone who helped.
