I just made my first LO in PSP9 and I'm losing quality big time when I'm resizing.
It either goes really blurry or really grainy. I've tried pretty much every option but haven't had any luck. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
I create in PSP9 - I make my layouts the size I want to print (I'm doing a 6" album, so create at 300 dpi and 1800 pixels -- that way if I want to print an 8" album, I still have 200 dpi or better.
First, try a save - Jpg - use the options button and just look at the slider. It should be way to the left (lowest compression, best quality) if you are saving for your own files or to print. Then to save one for DSP, follow the steps below.
I make a copy of my saved layout (Ctrl-D) and then resize it to 72 dpi and 500 to 600 pixels. Near the bottom of the resize box is a place to select "resample using" -- I use smart resize. Then, when saving, select jpg as your extension - then there is a button at the bottom right of the box called "options" - click on it. There, you will find a button "Run Optimizer..." - click it and look at the top right (under the photo) at the size -- DSP allows 125,000 - so set your compression value accordingly.

Thanks so much! It worked! (doing the happy dance)
Here's the link to my first PSP9 LO if you're interested: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=20043&password=&sort=2&cat=500&page=1
Thanks again! :)
so glad you got it! a happy dance indeed :)
check out this PSP resizing tutorial excerpted from the 130 class:

It explains the various options for resizing and Exporting as a JPEG for the web.
Nice layout!
Glad to help! JASC does a wonderful job, also, of answering questions with their product (recently purchased by Corel but they also sent me a reply to a question). One problem from a long time ago was that the slider got pushed to the right (saves space but makes for a bad save) - they emailed me and got me on the right track. The Optimizer is from newer versions, but is a great help in reducing the size for uploading WITHOUT messing with the slider (and then forgetting to reset it). Have fun! Great layout!
