I recently had a gastric bypass on 9/19/07. After years of trying every diet imaginable, my doctor & I decided that this was the way to go as my weight was beginning to affect my health in many negative ways.
For anyone who thinks that it may be the "easy way out", please let me inform you that nothing could be farther from the truth.
If there's anyone out there that has advice or just wants support, please speak up!

Hi Lidia
I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy in november last year. I have lost about 80lbs since then and have had no complications with my surgery. I had some initial emotional issues with eating, but I went from a size 22 (australian) 24 US to a size 10-12 here which is an 8-10 in the states.
If you need any support or want to chat, I may be able to help. I also found the web site www.obesityhelp.com to be very useful, though I dont tend to frequent it as much now, because I feel I am at the end of my journey.
Feel free to PM me and I can send you my email address too if you like.
Take Care

WOW! That's great! I've been on Obesity Help & it's a great site with lots & lots of important info. I know what you mean about emotional issues, most people do have them & don't realize it. In order to qualify for the operation I had to complete a 24-week course that was taught by a nutritionist and a psychologist. It was very insightful & interesting.
I had RNY 9/21/06 and have now lost 107 lbs. I'm a "senior citizen" so I thought it might be harder on me than it was, but my biggest issues are to "NOT" revert to pre-op indulgences which include too much food, wrong kind of food and eating constantly. When I get bored, I find myself looking for something to put in my mouth.
The interest in digital scrapping will hopefully keep my mind off of food.

I know what you mean about taking your mind off of food! Your weight loss is great! Did you have any problems? Do you exercise often?
Sorry for the delay in getting back.... I've been on the run all week and today is my card playing day!!
I was in a power wheel chair at the time I had my surgery. I now no longer use that and .... taaadaaaa..... yesterday, I was able to go to my walmart shopping without using a handicap cart!!!! I walk daily with my little dog. We only get in about 3 blocks because I'm still not in good shape and she has very short legs and only stands about 7-8" tall (her name is Dawn and she is a Bischon Frise).
So now I'm going to start increasing my walks and also see if I can't find somewhere that I can get in some treadmill and such. (I live in a very rural community with nothing like swimming pools, gyms or even support groups around ).
I'd share photos if you want to pm me.

Well - so how is everyone doing? I'm thrilled that I've lost 55lbs so far and finally reached "Onederland" (The 100s instead of the 200s). I also joined a gym to help this along. I've been learning so much about myself along the way. I had sooo many bad habits - cleaning my plate, not letting food go to "waste", large portions, etc. It still takes a lot of thought, I just can't grab something to eat, but I see that as a positive thing. Also today I finally cleaned out my closet (Long overdue) & filled up 5 trash bags with clothes that are too big! I'm taking them all to my local support meeting to give to others who are in the midst of losing weight.

  Congratulations to all of you! That is wonderful!!
Getting rid of clothes is both wonderful and scary. In the past I always rebounded so badly on weight loss that I could usually make use of my larger wardrobe again..... YIKES!!!! I don't see that happening this time.

I am still doing good, I had a small (4lb gain) for a while, but it is evening out again, I think I have gotten to the plateau point that they talk about where your body and your surgery meet :)
I sold my fat clothes on ebay, I had some nice things, and thought I would send it on to those who needed it, as it was so hard finding all of it in the first place.
I have a little loose skin but not too much to worry about and I still want to have children, so if I ever think of a tummy tuck it would be a little further down the track.
I am still over the moon with the results!
Congratulations on Onederland!! WOO HOO!
Hugs
