Hi All!

I just finished my very first kit and I have to admit, I'm hooked. I thought I was addicted to creating layouts but this was SO much fun, I want to do more! I'm looking for some CC from a DSP designer (if they have time of course!) and possibly someone to discuss the finer details of creating elements if they're up to sharing their secrets. I'd love to know how to make the elements that look "real" as opposed to my "drawings". Here's a preview of the kit I made...

You can download it from here (http://www.4shared.com/file/26647099/661fcebb/Cowboy_Up_Kit_by_Scrap_Happy_Manda_Designs.html). (15MB)

I hope a designer has the time to chat with me about this as I know I will appreciate their time and advice.

Thanks in advance. :D

If you enjoy creating elements/kits and would like some how to help you should look at the SNL (Saturday Night Live) forum if you haven't yet!

Manda - So I'm curious ... I followed the link in your TOU ... looks like you have a digitscrap forum as well??? It was somewhat difficult to read as the background was so dark (on my monitor anyway), but it looked like you were the moderator in most of the threads I could see ... all that AND a 3-month-old ... wow!

I'm not sure if you 'sell' products in your digiscrap junkies site, but ... just in case ... you might want to check with DSP admin on their guidelines for promoting alternate sites for digiscrap products. Since it's buried in your TOU it might be fine, but it never hurts to be sure.

Oh no we don't sell anything. I set that forum up for some friends who were interested in getting into digital scrapbooking but couldn't find an Australian site. I don't plan on selling my work at any time. I mainly do it as a hobby so if this is breaking any DSP rules, please let me know.

If you arent in any way commercial or promoting a commercial site you are fine - Youve done really well for your first kit - one thing I would suggest is to actually do a layout with the pieces of your kit so that you can see if they actually work with photos - Keep at it - designing can be just as addicting as creating layouts!!!

I think you have done a wonderful job! SNL is a wonderful place to get more experience and make lots of things! I also learned a TON from taking DSU classes. I started with PSE so I took Emma's 3 classes on element creation and when I upgraded to CS2 I took Laurens' 211/311 combo class!

Thank you! I'm working on my second but it seems I've lost my creativity again! :(

Dont worry it all takes time. You will find that at first it may seem difficult to come up with things. Just take your time and do something and if you dont like it you will probably come up with new ideas from that so dont worry your creative side will find you again and def. check out snl! Its awesome.

I think you did awesome job - for your first kit all seems to be just fine!
As for inspiration - well, we all sometimes run out of it LOL! I remember once I was absolutely DRY!!! - and suddenly saw my DD playing with a tulle curtain in our country house :) In a minute I was copying the curtain design LOL In a couple of hours a new kit was born - once you get inspired with only one element, the others are about to get drawn as if by themselves! :)
