This thread is for anyone who has an interest in creating greeting cards to share with others at DSP. We are focused
FIRST on supporting one another's creative efforts,
SECOND on helping each other master their digital design skills,
and
THIRD on building our personal library of greeting cards so we no longer find ourselves at the convenience store at the last minute paying far too much for a card that says far too little for those who matter most in our lives!:oEach month I will initiate a new sub-thread with our 'inspiration' and any special links for the month. The basic guidelines will remain the same month-to-month. We may make changes (enhancements hopefully!) from time to time to the guidelines as we work through any 'snafues' (might as well admit right up front that we are likely to 'learn' as we go and discover oversights etc...I'm really a 'perfect person' ... it's just that God's not really done with me yet!!! like...actually...I'm still pretty close to the drawing board stage! ... so ... be patient...it will help!)

Our guidelines (at this point):
Each month you participate you will create at least one greeting card....or as many as you'd like!
Create the cards in any 'size' you prefer...just be sure to use 220- 300 dpi so we have a good quality file for printing purposes.

All cards should be shared in either JPG or PNG format. (Use PNG if you have a transparent area that allows others to add a photo, etc)
Each month you will be offered a "MegaKit" (compliments of the DSP-SNL group of designers) that you can use IF YOU LIKE. It can be downloaded at our DSP-GCC file-sharing site (http://www.4shared.com/dir/4146169/dda1513c/DSP_GCC.html).

Click this link to get a set of instructions (http://www.4shared.com/file/26726933/8f54b5c0/4shared_instructions.html) (PDF) for the uploading procedures. This will show you where to put your zipped file and to some degree explain the folder-structure of the site.
You may use any DSP kit or freebie as long as you adhere to the TOU provided in the kit AND ensure that your final shared files are flat (jpg or png).
You may use any digital papers, elements, word art etc that you have created as long as you provide proper credit for any tools and/or images you may have use in creating your designs. If you have questions about crediting the work of others (quotes, brushes, art, etc) please PM me and we'll work on getting answers and then adding what we learn here as part of our guidelines.READY TO UPLOAD YOUR CREATIONS?
Once your cards are ready to share upload it to the GCC gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=5126)and add a link to it in our monthly thread so we all know there's a 'surprise' waiting for us!
At the end of the month - combine all your creations into one compressed folder and use the following naming conventions for this file:
dspusername-gccyymm
where
dspusername is your username here at DSP
gcc (that's this group!)
yy is the last two digits of the current year
mm is the two digit number for the current/challenge month

IE: spotty-gcc0710.zip would be the name of Spotty's GCC contributions for October 2007.

I know it may seem silly, but keeping the file sharing folders clean will be much easier if everyone follows this convention. Thanks.

The file hosting site will have a new password each month and will allow you to access that collection for 30 days beyond the contribution period ... that will give us all the chance to wait until all contributions are in and then do a 'mass download' at the end.Let's Play!

I am so in! I love cards, but don't like buying them from the store. I love that I can make special, personalized cards that won't get thrown in the trash! :D

Sorry I missed you cry for help, yesterday. Thought Linda and I had worked through that problem when it kept happenong to me [actually - it was my end. Had a block on the 4shared site...]
Glad to read that you are OK now.

I didn't realize we could use any dsp kits as well, thought it was just the snl freebie kit. I hope I understood that. :)

We allow everyone to use any kit they like ... though we are encouraging use of SNL ... because there are SO MANY fantastic items every month in the final SNL kit! I worked with DSP Admin Team when we started GCC last fall ... they said it's okay to use any kits as long as credit is given and as long as the final 'card designs' were uploaded in jpg format so the 'original' artwork cannot be 'captured' and used without proper payment etc.

From your reply, Linda, it looks like we should stay with SNL pieces, and our own, for the final shared product...

oops! That's not what I was trying to convey...goodness...

What I meant to say is that we can use any kit at all ... even non-DSP...according to Margie (DSP admin). She just said we have to be careful in how we share the final designs so we don't violate copyright laws. If the card designs we 'share' are in jpg or png format...rather than something like a Photoshop layered file that can still be fully edited we are okay.

Hoping I'm not making this more confusing???

Thanks for these great instructions Linda. these answer all of my questions for now anyway.
Just checked the file sharing site, and I don't se a kit to use for the Jan 08 challenge, so will use things from my stash. Is this okay, as I long as I credit everything?

Yes, that is fine for now. I will work on putting a GCC/SNL MegaKit together so you can chose from that as well!
