Do you buy the extra "photo cartridge"? I haven't yet, but can't imagine it being worth the extra $$, my printer puts out pretty stunnig prints.. tho I wish it weren't so quick going through the ink :o

Thought I'd revive this thread as I have the same question.

I've been printing with an HP Deskjet 5550 with the standard color cartridge 57 and the black cartridge 56. I print everything to high quality Kodak glossy paper. All the pages I've printed look incredible with great colors and sharpness.

I'd like to know if anyone uses the photo cartridge 58 that replaces the black one. Is there really a difference?

Thanks.

I have a photo cartridge I use, but I haven't really noticed a difference. My suggestion would be to buy one and see what YOU think! My eye isn't trained, and I don't print very often. But you never know what you might like! Have to buy ink anyway, may as well pay a few extra bucks to answer the burning question! :p

I have the 7960 and it uses all three 56-57-58 with the alternate being 59 the gray ink for black and white photo's. Looking at the cartridge itself it only looks like it has lighter versions of the 57 and I notice that 58 is always my first one to run out.

Thanks Emma! I never knew about digital scrapbooking until I read an article in USA Today last week. I've been using PS for a long time and doing my own digital scrapbooks. Never thought to do a search on the topic. I think I'll be coming up with some great ideas from sites like this one.

Rebecca, that HP 7960 sounds pretty sharp. I'll have to check a sample print next time I'm in a computer store.

Thanks for the info.
