Does any body know of a keyboard short cut for adding a drop shadow to an element. I hate having to go to add new layer style, click on drop shadow, click ok! Just thought it would make life a little easier!

Thanks!

No, there isn't one. To check, go to Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts and go check out the command you want to use a shortcut for. If there's not one existing, you can create one, but good luck finding a free combo of keystrokes!

I think I had to choose something like Ctrl-Alt-Shift-jump-up-and-down-while-begging for Drop Shadow on mine!

Go to Applications Menus in the drop down box, then Layer>Layer Style>Drop Shadow, just like in the regular menu, and assign a shortcut.

Also, just check the menu to see the shortcut command next to it. Under Layer>Layer Style>Drop Shadow, there's not one listed, meaning there isn't one.
It just open the Styles dialog with Drop Shadow checked. It might be good to set a shortcut just for Layer>Layer Styles>Blending Options to open the box with nothing checked when creating other effects

I may be totally misunderstanding here - but there is a layer styles palette where you can customize your layer styles and save new ones. So all you have to do is click on the little button and it pops on there.
Also - there isn't a shortcut - but you could always do an action and assign an F button.

Id do exactly what Amanda suggested - make a drop shadow that you really like the settings of and save it as a style - then its there in your layer styles palette and will apply with one click.!!!

I think I'm asking too much, but is it possible to apply a style from the palette with a customized keyboard command? I poked around, but didn't see anything to set that up. Would be nice to use the common ones as a keystroke

good idea, I don't use the Styles palette in PS, but it's vital in PSE. Not sure why I don't make better use of it in PS...probably 'cause I'm addicted to tweaking :)

You could make it an action and assign it an "f" key. Like I have "duplicate layer" as F2 (I did this before I knew about CTRL-J and now I'm just used to it.)

I can't imagine not using layer styles palette much. I use mine constantly!

I need to get more familiar with actions. I dont use them but probably would love them if I did!

As Amanda said you could create an action or assign an F key but it would save you no time at all - i keep all my common styles in my palette all the time so its a one click thing anyway - the styles palette IS the quick key here!!!- I never turn my styles palette off - ever!!!
