A special thanks to the Encore! Chat participants for helping me get this challenge started!!! And to Victoria for creating the winning challenge name "Graphically Challenged":yahoo:

Your mission should you choose to accept it:
Create a graphic style layout using ONE photo!!!
Here are the mission details:
~Pick ONE photo from your collection
~Fill the WHOLE layout with the photo (I am talking make it BIG and fill that whole area whether you scrap 8x10 or 12x12)
~Use at least one DSP item (this can be a freebie, overlay, background, word art, etc!)

I have had so many people comment that they like "both" photos in my snowmobile LO, that I have to say go look again, it is only 1 photo. I just put an overlay over part of it :) I thought it was kind of a snazzy trick. :)

Yay, this is my favorite style of layout to do...although I'm still learning how to do it though. I'm not sure how far back we can go with layouts that we've done? I did two tonight that I want to post, but I also did them for the Winter Wonderland CD challenge so can I use them for this one as well? I think I dreamed (nightmared!) in graphic style last night!!!
This graphic style is all very new to me---I keep telling myself "you got this, just think full-page magazine ads". So that's what I started trying (though not well!) BUT...then I take a stroll through this gallery and see all the exceptional LOs that are far superior to anything I see in a magazine and realize---no I don't have it!
I scratched what I had and started over. Ended up with this

I'm hoping that between this Challenge and the new Go Graphic DETBootCamp Challenge (hosted by the lovely Cassie), I'll get somewhat of a grasp on this.

By the way--would someone tell me if the LOs in this gallery so far are strictly graphic or are they hybrid?? (Or which LOs are which?) I think that is where some of my confusion is.

For those who've asked, here are the instructions for my LO, "Joyful".

Instructions:
1. Open a new 12 x 12 (or whatever size you scrap) file in your scrapping software. I use PSE 5.
2. Open BG_grungymustard from Nicole's Little Chatterbox Backpack. Pull that background into your new document.
3. Open BG_woodenleaves from Lauren's Clearly Fall Kit. Pull that background into your new document and make sure it is sitting on top of the grungymustard background.
4. Set the blending mode of the woodenleaves background to color.
5. Now add your photo. I applied a layers mask to the photo itself and blended it into the background. You may have to start with a soft airbrush, around 300, at 100% opacity, and do the outside edges of the photo, then lower the opacity to around 50% or so, and blend more of the photo into the background. You will have to experiment with brush sizes and opacity to blend in the photo.
6. After I am happy with how the photo looks blended into the background, I then add any word art I want. I resize and rotate in different ways and directions and then set to different blending modes until I am happy with the look.
7. Finally, as per Cassie-in-Texas' suggestions, on V2 of my LO, "Joyful", I used the burn tool on my DD's hair and eyes. I used it on the outside where the hair was bright to tone it down and blend it into the background more. I used it on the eyes to bring them out a bit more. I experimented with Shadows and Midtones at around 50% to 75% exposure. Thanks Cassie! :D

Chris you are definitely doing graphic style! You have blended backgrounds and made the photo blend into the red. I would say you are doing a bit of hybrid too, with the overlayed border and text! :) You are doing great!!! I am having the best time looking at the gallery!!!

This is a stunning gallery!!! This was SO fun to do! And so much faster than my other LOs -- I only spent 2 hours on this vs 22!! (just kiddding -- sort of!)
