I want to take photos of Christmas lights, and Decorations on houses etc...
can you help....
okay you are going to think I am dim but can you tell me which is the slowest speed...

I have the Rebel xti.....mmmm I think it is 1/4 is that correct....

You can also use the Bulb... keep turning your wheel till it gets slower and slower and then it'll stop having numbers and have just a B or the word Bulb. Bulb lets you click the shutter, and it'll stay open till you push it again to close it and end the exposure. "Click.....1...2....3....4....5....6.....7....8... Click" gives you an eight second exposure.

Jennifer I did use the Bulb setting a few days ago....I looked at the speed afterwards and it said 200...okay I told you was dim;)

Speed is the ISO or in film days we said film speed like 100, 200, 400, 800 ASA... Same thing.

okay Thanks again....I used the bulb settings in M mode....so I took too long to close it again and it read 200....I wanted it to be 8 seconds....
but hey have just done it again.(since reading this)...clicked quickly and it was 2 seconds....
you are a star....THANK YOU SO MUCH...I think the bulb settings is great...
I am using the LCD to check out the settings as I take photos...
