My Santa baby!

My little Cassidy today. All dressed and ready to go see Santa Claus at church. I snapped a few photos of her before we left and I'm sure glad I did... On the way there my 3year old Hailey began to throw up in the car and all over her own Christmas dress. Needless to say, we ended up turning around and coming straight home :( Oh well, at least I have a photo. Oh how beautiful and sweet!!!! I'm so glad you got this photo. My DD was scared of the Santa at Wal-Mart until a friend of mine who works in the Photo Lab convinced her that he's not scary. Could you tell me what angle you had the flash pointed? I realize that the lenses and flash for your camera are going to be different from the ones I buy. I hope I can take pictures with the same gorgeous quality like yours someday. :)

First off, thanks for the compliment :) And to answer your question, she was laying on the floor on a pillow and I was standing on a stool above her with the flash pointed slightly to my left and backwards over my shoulder at about a 45degree tilt. If you look at her face you can see that the left side is lighter and a slight shadow on the right. That will generally tell you where the light was coming from. Here, it was coming off the flash, hitting the wall and bouncing back on to her on the left. By hitting the wall first I in essence had a HUGE source of light. The bigger the source of light, the softer it is. This is pretty much how I take all my flash photos indoors. I use the flash, like I've said before, about 98% of my indoor shots.
