Unlocking a Layer?

Can someone tell me how to unlock a layer so I can modify it? I'm using Photoshop 7 and I can't figure out why my layers are locked and I can't modify them. Thank You!

There should be a little lock symbol on the layer palatte - just click the layer that's locked and then click the lock symbol to turn it off. :)

And if that doesn't work, you can duplicate the layer (CTRL-J) and delete the original. HTH!

ALL your layers are locked? Even when you create a new one? Or just the Background layer?

I learned this trick in school. To easily unlock a background layer you should just be able to double-click on the layer in the layers palatte.
