I'd love to see some spicy layouts in the gallery!

Between now and January 16, (two weeks) you can get the add on pack for Spicy Nature (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=7379) free!
Edited, because I was not clear before: Buy Spicy Nature from the store, create a layout using it, then post it in the gallery. Link me to it in this thread and I'll send you the download link to get the posting bonus. Thanks to those who pointed out I had skipped this part, and sorry!

As always, if your layout is not doing double duty with another challenge (and this one will overlap Props and Prompts which starts on the 8th, so think about that while you're at it - those will be QCs again and might do well with this!) then post them in the Elisabeth's Extras Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=2645). But any gallery is fine if you link it back here for me to know to send you the posting bonus. You can see the posting bonus HERE (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=232658)!

Let's get started, I can't wait to see your layouts. Mine is posted here:

HI! Thanks for asking. Lots of the designers here, myself included, will post a challenge each month or several times a month, and give away a coordinated product when you buy the featured one. So this time my featured one is Spicy Nature - you get that from the store; it's linked above. Then post a layout using it, and link back to this thread (if you're unsure how to do a link just say it's in your gallery and I can find it; then I'll help you find more information on links etc)
Once you've done that, I'll send you a download link to get the posting bonus. It's like a two for one, or a buy-one-get-one, type of thing.

I hope I've been more clear but if not I'm glad to help further! And welcome to DSP; we're so glad you found us!

Thanks June for the comment in your description about the template innards being in the kit! I should mention to all that I had the frames set up like little qcs at first, and I don't know why I disarranged it, but anyway, if you put the frame itself OVER your photo, once you have the image cropped to the template, the shadows will fall into place over your photo - the curled bits of the frame will pop out better. I'm sorry I wasn't clearer in the template itself.

bethliz
01-09-2008, 02:59 AM
nah don't be sorry we forgive you!!...lol...thanks for being so thoughtful in the first place...which i must admit i appreciate because it really does make it easier to use the curled frame...i am really quite a lazy scrapper!!..Cheers liz

Got mine and thanks so much! I love that kit!

Can I ask a question though...those 2 elements, the green inside portrait and lanscape frames? How do you use those? I couldn't figure it out. Probably a stupid question but had to ask!

kathleen08
01-17-2008, 02:22 PM
I can help on that ... if you place the frame and the "insert" (light lime green color) into your LO they should line up together. At this point, I link them together so that when I move one I move the other one. Then place your photo into the LO. The layer order should be the Frame on top, the photo in the middle, then the frame insert on the bottom. Then select the photo layer (it should be sized appropriately to fit in the frame, you can reduce the opacity temporarily to make this easier) and group or clip it with the previous layer (in this case, the insert).

Hope that helps. Just post again if you need more help.

Just a clarification to the above. I start in my LO, and do File>Place to insert each element (the frame, and then the insert). If you do this rather than copy/paste, they will already be in the correct position relative to each other. You might just need to adjust the layer order.

Once you have the layers in the right order (Frame on top, photo in the middle, insert on the bottom), select the photo layer and in Elements either press Ctrl+G or Layer>Group with Previous. In Photoshop the command is Create Clipping Mask (right click on the layer or Layer>Create Clipping Mask or (because there have to be so many ways to do things in Photoshop) Alt+Ctrl+G).

I'm sorry Norma! I probably should have added info into my tou about those. Please, if you have any other questions, I'm happy to help, and thanks so much to Kathleen for explaining!

For anyone using PSP, layer and size your photo over the green template, but under the frame - then hide your photo layer. Select with your wand tool the green template, invert selection, then go back to your photo layer and edit, cut. Show it again, and it will be the right shape to fit in the frame without having to erase around the outside of the frame.

That's okay. I should have realized it was a type of template. I wasn't thinking I guess.

Elisabeth, feel free to borrow any of my instruction for future use. I know you could write it too, but every little bit helps. It really is nice to have the insert to the frame to clip/group a picture to!
