So I read a past post on how to unlock a layer but I tried both ways and it is not working for me. I cannot get layer to unlock. I have photoshop 6.0. Please, please please help!

What methods have you tried?

I tried to duplicate the layer and delete the original. I also tried clicking on the the layer that's locked and then click the lock symbol to turn it off. I use photoshop quite a bit but have never tired digital scrapbooking until today. I love it. I just need some help getting this worked out. Thanks for the help

you could always copy and paste it into a new document.

The padlock icon is to lock the layer from most editing, and the padlock symbol will appear in the Layers Palette next to the thumbnail, or the icon will be highlighted, and all the other options in the Layers Palette will be grayed out.

If you just lock the layer pixels, click the little checkerboard icon next to the padlock icon. That just prevents adding anything outside the existing layer contents. The little icon will be highlighted if the layer is locked, and the padlock will appear in the Layers Palette too.

What exactly is happening that's telling you they're locked? The padlock icon, you can't add any new obejcts to a layer? I need some more info on how it's behaving and what symbols you see.

If clicking either of those two symbols isn't fixing it, try hitting Ctrl-D just to make sure you don't have a selection active. If you're still having the problem, describe carefully how it's behaving, and we'll help you fix it
