Update from below...

Alright... I thought about it...

We can all just be a group for support and go about our albums the way in which we want to individually, yet share them with the group. So, let the baby book pages begin!!!!!

If you want to post your album plan please do so, I know I would love to see them!

Here is the link to the Baby Book Album Compilation (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=882)

I hope to do an album on my little one. She was born in Nov but I don't know how it will work out because I have 7 other kiddos to scrap and over 15 years of child raising to scrap and most of the photos have to be scanned.

Hey, we all have to start somewhere! :) I guess for you planning is KEY! :) Maybe decide what you want to see in each of their albums and go from there!

Oh and.. .WOW... 7!! I wished to have 4, but it took us almost 3 years to be blessed with Hannah! When I go back to teacher I'll have my large family again *wink*

Well it looks like there are a few of us that can do this together... it will be nice to see all the baby pages!! :)

Amanda - Congrats!!! I was due with Hannah yesterday (1/14) last year! I just did a page (in my gallery) on my due date. I'm so excited for you!!! How far apart are your kids?

LOL, ME TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Poor Charlie. Well, poor Sam, too, and... actually, Maggie is the only one who actually has a completed album from birth-age 2. The rest of them have a few scattered random pages....... Sam and Charlie don't even have ALBUMS! YEESH... And have I mentioned that Bill (poor, beleaguered dh) keeps bugging me because we actually have no PICTURES of the kids (well, except a family photo)....... I'm a DORK! So, I SHOULD be joining you!!!!!

Tara, I'll join you. I'm doing a month by month album for my granddaughter who is 3 mos old. Suzanne's BoGo a GoGo challenge is about working on a monthly 2 page layout, so I'm going to work on this one for her challenge, too. Two for One, can't beat that!

Wow, sounds like we have a lot of interest for this... I guess maybe I should figure something out for it.. I'll look back at what they did before for this...

Amanda - Wow, tomorrow!!! How exciting!! Can't wait to see Luke's first page!!! Let us know when you get back! Take all the time you need of course!!!

Here is my first layout for my granddaughter's album. These two pages are from the delivery room where my son took the pictures. I plan on doing a two page layout about each month. I wanted to start with the delivery room pics first; next will be her 1st month. http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=235974

I would love to join! my kids are 5 and 1, and I only have the first few months done for my 5 year old...and nothing for my baby (who is not much of a baby anymore). I got stalled doing my daughter's album because I went back to school, and I haven't done my son's because I couldn't decide whether to do it paper or digital, so I bought some paper stuff, but also did a few digital layouts....
Maybe this group will help inspire me to get things done for the both of them before they grow up too much.

If you would like CC's on your work though, please by all means ask away. I usually just post on the Step-It-Up board when I want CC's though, but we could do that here too! :)

I'm hoping to finish two baby books by summer! I have a 21 month old and an 8 month old! Yes, yes, I know!!! So I think my plan is to do mostly milestones, and some misc. everyday things. Of course we don't always have the camera handy for those 1st steps or if your me, your kids are so close together everything is one big two year blur! LOL I plan to try the following:

* pregnancy
* birth/hospital pics and story
* coming home/family/visitors
* baby schedule/routine/or lack there of
* favorites
* firsts
* holidays
* mommy & baby
* daddy & baby
* siblings or special family
* personality page
* special physical characteristics (those cute pics of tiny hands, feet, etc)
* hopes & dreams ( a letter to my girls to wish them all the happiness in the world)
* growth page ( month to month)
* bath time
* feeding
* sleeping
* nursery ( I have pics of all my babys' girlie clothes hanging in the armoire)
* a day in the life of baby
* cost of baby ( diapers, food, clothes,etc ...priceless)

These are in no order and are just a rough draft to start my album.

Cc's are welcome!

If someone wants CC they will usually put it on their post or in the description of their posted layout. If they don't ask for CC; then it's best to post only positive comments about their layout. There is usually something you can find about all layouts to post praise. :tup:

I'd like to join as well! The original reason I started scrapping was to create a baby album for my daughter. She is now 19 months old & I only have a few pages with no overall theme. Then, I had a scrapping hiatus due to lack of time, inspiration, & most important of all to a digi scrapper-->a computer that can actually run Photoshop without crashing after every 2 actions.

Now that my hiatus is over, my goal is to really get down & actually finish her album. It's such a large project though & I feel overwhelmed just thinking about it (lol)! So may be I can actually get it done with you all :)

BTW ScrapChick1717, I love the list of pages you have come up with. I'll definitely refer to this as I work on my album.

And to all of you, very good LO's so far!! Hope to see more &to contribute a few myself :)

Break your project up into pieces...than it doesn't look so big...
To be finished before my son turns 12.....I'm not going to extensively scrap every page. I want some special pages in it...otherwise it will take me soooooo much time!

ouch....I wanted to have an idea myself how long I'd need to finish the 1st year album...so I went through al the pictures and made a list of the theme's/titles of the pages...

I was shocked...I have 9 1 pagers done and 2 2-pagers....
I ended up with another 48(!!) 2-pagers to go....:doh: :doh: :doh: :doh:
With an average of 2-3 pages a week this will take me another 4-6 months to go and to meet the "production schedule"...and that's not the way I like to scrap..it should be for relaxing and not focussed on meeting the output.....:cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

So I guess I've got to go with the "less is more" approach...and make up my mind...:think: :think: :think:

Did you make a plan on what you wanted to do for your pages? How did you come up with the amount you would need to do? :eek: That's A LOT!!! Is there anything you could do to lessen the amount... or I guess keep on scrapping for years to come just for the first baby book... :lol:

Hi everyone, I'm just peeking in. I intend to contribute my album pages soon..as soon as I start making them lol.

Tusele, I really understand how you feel. I feel overwhelmed just thinking about Jenelle's baby album and she's the reason I started scrapping anyway. I haven't really seriously worked on it yet. I have some random pages scattered here and there but my goal is to have a unified theme--with some random pages from when I first started interspersed here and there. There are a lot of photos and page ideas and I just don't know where to start.
All in all, there's nothing to it but to do it. I'm going to pick a kit in the next coming weeks---think that will help me with the theme of the album and I'm going to go through my photos and pick some and just start making pages.

Oh yeah, just wanted to say peeking through the gallery is sooo inspirational! You all are creating very wonderful pages.

Hi ladies! I used to post on that old baby album challenge, but I got distracted because we went on some trips and got great photos to scrap. It's hard to balance keeping up with new photos and scrapping old ones!
I will print all my scrapbooks as bound books (I've been told it's really inexpensive at www.viovio.com), so that means I don't get to print any of my handiwork until ALL of my LO's for one book are done. So I'm trying to focus on my first son's baby album, birth through 1 year. Or maybe through 2 years, I'm not sure. I want it to be a nice thick book. I've got to get his done so I can print it, then get son #2's done, then work on family ones by the year. At least, that's the plan.
I did a photo shoot of my babies every month, so I will do a page for each month. If I have any precious photos that I just HAVE to scrap, I'll put those in between the months, so they're chronological. I am having a hard time deciding which photos to scrap for the baby book vs. a family book!
And I can't find the calendar that I wrote his height and weight and milestones on, so I need to go back and add his heights and weights to his monthly pages when I find that.
The theme for his book is mostly the colors I chose, and I want it to sort of be "elegant baby". I've compiled a new kit to use for it by recoloring papers and elements to coordinate.
Here's what I've gotten done so far:
Boy or Girl? (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=238086)
Hospital 1 (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=249588)

Nettie, I actually really like the LO of your two girls. I think, though, that the sepia photos blend in with the sepia-toned flowers. I think you should make the background more colorful (the flowers and the dark background behind them) and it will make the photos stand out more. That's your focus, after all--those adorable photos!

Wow, this one did NOT turn out how I was expecting. I envisioned a softly colored LO to match the soft colors and the serenity of the photo. I love that photo!
So I was extremely surprised when a grungy LO emerged:eek:. I like it okay, but it was a stretch for me, so CC is greatly appreciated:help: . I wanted to put more embellishments on, but I can't think of what. Maybe it doesn't need anything.

Wow, I finished another one! Maybe I will get this album done before he goes to college. Hey, I may finish it before he starts kindergarten!
But I have a dilemma. I was going for a white/neutral color scheme, but when I pulled in the flower and a background from Le Beau Page Kit, I liked it. So I have two versions, one neutral and one colored. Which one do you like better?
Blessing Day (white) (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=251349)
Blessing Day (colored) (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=251348&nocache=1)
I'm sort of leaning toward white because of the nature of the occasion. There will be another page facing it with a few more photos and some journaling. So maybe I could add some of the color on the that page.

susielein
03-30-2008, 11:55 PM
Gee, I seem to be hogging the thread.
As I scrapped the second page for Blessing Day, I was inspired and came up with sort of a compromise between the two versions. Here they are:
Blessing Day (left) (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=251534)
Blessing Day (right) (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=251536&nocache=1)

The photos with everyone were so colorful that I made them sepia tone. I did the background of the large group photo sepia to keep it less cluttered.

Wow, I feel like I'm really getting somewhere!

Here's another one for Jared's baby book, called First Basketball Games (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=253186&nocache=1), but I'm in a quandary. When I finished it, I realized that it's slated to face this pretty much polar opposite page, Sleep Baby, Sleep (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=249828). I just don't think it's going to work. The choices I see are to (1) go out of chronological order or (2) come up with two more pages that would be more suited to facing these pages. What to do? :confused:

Both of these pages are great....I wouldn't worry about them facing each other in your book...different pages, different styles but both represent the mood of the event. Who says that facing pages have to coordinate? Otherwise we'd only be doing 2-page spreads. Besides, by the time you are done scrapping all your pictures, you'll likely have created pages that will fit between them anyway.

I did another page (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=253292), and I could maybe stick this one in next to the Sleep Baby, Sleep LO. And I found that not too far past his 1 month "birthday" is a baseball game to scrap, which of course goes great opposite basketball!

Whoa, and I finished another one tonight! I am really bookin' and it feels good. I've found that the Scraplift the Spotlight challenge is really helping me get going. Aw, come on, you guys! I'm not the only one here, am I?
I'm not sure how I feel about what I've just done. Basically, I've made the same page for both sons' first Easters. Is it saving time, or being lazy?
Here's the link to Jared's First Easter (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=255284&nocache=1)
and to Zach's First Easter (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=255287&nocache=1)

What do you think?

I really like them being the same. You can compare their ages and sizes easier for their first Easter. When you get my age you will appreciate remembering these comparisons.

Nettie, I used some handwriting fonts from Font Garden. I think the one I used on the Easter LO's is called Jeana. I love those fonts! I do all my journaling in Jayne Print.

Thanks, I'm going to check them out. I love fonts, too. I take forever picking the ones I want to use.

And yet another one. This time, I scraplifted you, Bocca. It's not the first time, and I'm sure it won't be the last!

Oh, Susie, I guess I didn't read this post very carefully last time. I just realized that you scraplifted me. Your little boy's page turned out wonderfully and I loved the journaling.

All your layouts look so wonderful. I was doing so good about getting pages done for my kids...then I got a little sick. Turns out I will be having another baby to scrap for in Nov. Now I'm all behind again. And since I've been away I find it hard to get started up again. Now I want to scrap, but am severely blocked. Not even the great challenges are working for me, I look at the challenge, what others have done, and I draw a complete blank! Hopefully my 'pregnancy brain' will go away a little and I can start getting creative.

Congrats, Pez! How fun for you! Are you going to find out the gender, or have a surprise?
And congrats, Chellie, on your new baby. Can't wait to see some photos!

I'm still working on Jared's baby book. I'm rescrapping the old 8.5x11's to the square format, and I've just found his baby calendar with all his height/weight measurements and his milestones. So I've gone back and put those things on the LO's I've done already.
Here's one that's square now:
http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=263376
And while I was at it, I changed a similar one for Zach's book:

Wow, that's all I've done? I'm still trying to get moved in, and I have been slightly addicted to the online game Howrse. Oh, and I just got a DSLR, yesterday in the mail! So who knows when I'll work on more. I'll try, though!

I've done a couple in the last few months but none of them feel finished to me... and one of them is made with non-dsp products so I don't know if I can post it, but I don't really love it anyway. But this weekend we had a few firsts (first time in a pool and she got her ears pierced!) so I have plenty of pictures that I can't wait to scrap. Now if only I can find the time.

I have two 12x12 scrapbook albums, one each for my sons and I am planning on buying two 8.5x8.5 (or 8x8) albums for journaling. Hello, Can I join you please?! I started digi-scrapping so my son would know all about his life even before we adopted him but then I realised that we only use digital photos so I had a steep learning curve. i am totally caught up in NKOTB13 right now but will be working hard on his album when its over and I have had a break. I think I may have to join the scrapping with the stars gang to get it all done as he is already 14 months old and is shockingly photogenic (but then I would say that!!). So far I have completed the inside front cover (frontspiece/frontpaper?) and that is all.

Hi, I'm new in the sense that I've been sitting on the sidelines for awhile. I just finished NKOTB. I first discovered digital scrapbooking as a way to make a baby album for my 2 little ones but found the task too overwhelming, but want to try again.

I read through all your posts and looked through the gallery. You guys really put out some nice stuff! I got some ideas from what I saw but I still have the same problems. I'm not very internet-savvy, so I'm wondering if there's a way to view the gallery so I see each person's layouts in chronological order instead of just random images. I'm trying to get some ideas of how everyone organizes and the level of detail people choose.

Aside from wondering which pictures to pick, I'm not sure how to do it that will look good. I've looked into buying a quick click set, but that seems so restrictive. I'm thinking of doing some layouts without a template but also using some quick clicks. But this makes me wonder how to keep the style similar thoroughout.

I think I'd like to use just one or two kits to carry a theme throughout the book (of my son's first year for example) since I want to print it in a nice album someday. Do you think that's a good idea or will it get too monotonous? I want some cohesion but not boring. You can see my indecision is what's keeping me from producing anything!

I've done a few pages of his delivery, none are finished yet but I'd like to upload them for some cc from you guys. I'll try to do that tonight.

Thanks, Jackie

I started out the same way that you are, Jackie. I thought every page in the album would have to be all using the same kit, but you're right, it gets monotonous. And I felt restricted. I needed more room to flex my scrapping muscles! And I think it would make for a less interesting book. I mean, the same elements, the same papers, etc. every single page?
So what I decided was to:
1) Include at least one circle on every page (it's super easy--a brad or a round flower count!)
2) Use whatever kit looks best with the photos. If I don't have a specific kit I want to use, I have one kit that I fall back on. So a lot of the pages use the same kit, but if that kit doesn't look good with the photos, I don't have to use it.

Here's the link to Jared's baby album (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=3083). Some of them, especially at the end, aren't any good. And I started scrapping in a different size format, so I just need to delete those.

Here's the link to Zach's baby album (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=3082). Same story with those.

I don't know if they're in chronological order or not. I think I remember organizing them that way.

The gallery is sort of hard to figure out. It's organized in three ways, all at once.
(1) One way is chronologically. Everyone's pages are in order of when they were uploaded. You can see pages that way by clicking on "New Layouts."
(2) The second is in your own gallery. Your pages are organized according to when you uploaded them. You can also organize them into albums (that's what my boys' baby books are in). You can get to your gallery by clicking on "My Gallery," or by typing in this address: http://JayandJillsmom.digitalscrapbookplace.com These are also shown in "New Layouts."
(3) The third way they're organized is in special galleries for special events. Here's where they get tricky. Because if you were to upload your page to a special event gallery, it will show up in that gallery, but it also shows up in your personal gallery, and it shows up in New Layouts.
So the tricky part is that if you are in someone's album and you want to see the next page, you click on the next page's thumbnail on the right. If that page was uploaded to a special event gallery, you will no longer be in that user's gallery, you will be in the special event gallery. So the thumbnails on the right will change. You can see where you are by looking in the blue bar just above the scrapbook page you're looking at. It says Home>>Member>>susielein when I'm looking at one of my pages (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=277507&ppuser=54483). And on the right, there are thumbnails of more of my pages.
But if I were to go to my gallery and click on my submission for the designer contest (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=287511), it would say Home » Challenges and Contests » Contests » DSP Designer Finder Contest » Round 1 and the thumbnails on the right are not my pages. They are other contestants' submissions that are in that same special event category.

I don't think any of the pages in my boys' baby books are in special event galleries, so you ought to be able to look through them without getting lost.

Was that as clear as mud? I hope that helps! It takes a while to get the hang of it, but it'll start making sense.

Susie,

Thanks for the info and showing me your albums--love what you did for your boys and I want to try something similar.

I have another question--how do you make an album on DSP? Also, it seems that very few people in this forum did it. As I said, I'm just seeing random pages, whereas you have a link to your albums, which is what I'd like to do too.

I'm going to try to upload my first few pages of Jay's album, also something that still challenges me!

Thanks again for the advice.

Cheers, Jackie

To create an album, go to the gallery (can be just the DSP Gallery). Right at the top of the page there should be a line of links that says " My Gallery My Albums My Favorites". If you click on the "My Albums" link it'll take you to a page where you can create an album, and later when you have albums, they will all be listed there. You can upload layouts directly to one of your albums, sort the layouts in any order you want, and edit album details.
Once an album is created, you can also move previously uploaded layouts into it. You would have to go to the layout and click "Edit Photo" which is at the bottom of the 'photo details' section. Then you can rename it or move it to a new location, or edit the other info you put on it when you uploaded it.
Hope that helps!

To upload your pages, basically you just need to shrink them. I think the DSP standard is to make them 600 pixels wide (8.3 inches) and 72 pixels per inch. I do mine a little smaller, because it is easier to see on my monitor. I make mine 7 inches by 7 inches and 72 pixels per inch. I use PhotoShop 7, and when I save the file, I set the jpeg quality to 7. It's easy to remember all those 7's! That gets the file size low enough for DSP to accept.
To create an album in your DSP gallery (it really does help to organize all your pages!) click on "My Albums" on the blue bar. Then there's a link to "Create new album." You can move layouts around between albums without having to re-upload them (that's a pain, AND it loses all your fabulous comments!)
Any other questions?

Oh, and make sure you don't shrink your original copy of your layout. I have three copies of each layout on my hard drive. The .psd (PhotoShop file that I can go back and edit), a flat .jpg that's 12x12 and 200 pixels per inch for printing (it's flat because you can no longer move things around--the layers are "glued" to each other) and a web version of that flat jpg.
The .psd is named something descriptive, like Zach 4 months.psd The .jpg to print is automatically named Zach 4 months copy.jpg. When I'm ready to upload, I open the .jpg, shrink it to 7x7 and 72 pixels per inch, then Save As and add "sm" (for small) to the end of the file name. I think most people add "web" instead. So my file to upload is called Zach 4 months copysm.jpg
They're all lined up nice and neat, grouped in threes, in my folder.
i hope all of that made sense!

if you need help changing the size and resolution, you'll have to tell us what program you use.

Susie and Desiree,

Thanks so much for your advice. Okay, I uploaded the first few pages of my album to the baby album gallery (sorry I don't know how to provide a link to it yet but I'm learning--baby steps you know) and I created an album in my gallery per your instructions. Now I'm going to move the pics from my gallery to the new albums inside my gallery.

Thanks again for your help and I'd appreciate any comments you might have on my layouts. As we discussed before, Susie, about the cohesion and whether you need to use the same kit throughout the album, I think I'm going to stick with this one kit I've used in the pages 2-5 for all layouts in the hospital and then vary them afterward. Please advise if anyone has a better idea. Am I getting too bogged down with details? Probably.

Jackie

JayandJillsmom great pages you uploaded..

to post a link here..

open the page in the galery
Select the adress of the page
rightclick select copy
go to your message in the thread
type (url=the pasted adress to the page)title page(/url)
you should replace the ( with [ and ) with ]

For a "theme" I used the same background at every page (blue + an overlay).
here's the link to the album Tim's 1st album (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=5524)
