Okayyyyyyyyyyyyy, my friends! Are we having fun yet?! I have a page done - waaaaahoooooo! So. Week two is about the story. Tell your story! You can use the quick click from week one, or you can journal on your page from last week (or you can make a whole new page), but the goal this week is to tell the story of your January 08 page. Noooooooowwwwwww... January is less than half over, so I know that your story might not be complete for your January yet. But, I'm sure that you have a story, a moment, a funny thing that happened in the first couple weeks! Tell it!

(product removed to the store - available soon!)

Now. The featured item this week is the DSP GoGo Girl Font (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=7422).

http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/images/05_F_DSP_GoGoGirl.jpg (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=7422)

Grab it from the store here (http://store.digitalscrapbookplace.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=7422), and use it to journal. Post your completed layout to the GoGo Gallery (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=5422) before midnight, Sunday the 20th of January, 08, to be eligible to be entered into the drawing for the handwriting font at the end of the month. This is week two of the January challenge, so be sure you have your week one project completed as well (if you're interested in the handwriting font drawing, you must complete each of the weeks' challenges for the month). You can see complete rules here (http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28756).

Have a ball, friends! I'm loving the tussy mussy layouts - what a FABULOUS gallery we have! Yeay, you!

As I've written in the gallery section...I hope this is what was expected here. I only wanted to add journalling here because the photos were in the other page.

I like to have entire pages with writing on it...so I hope this works.

thanks

OK...so I am thinking I am going to change my direction with this challenge...if that is ok Suzanne.

I really think I would like to work on my 2006 album...is that ok? Can I do all the challenges for that year? I have done nothing with them and really need a push to get working on them. LMK if that is not ok...thanks

I don't know that I was able to think of all the journaling again, but I did my best and I am happy with it.

The story... I sat thinking what would I like to make my newest LO be about for the month of January. Well, yesterday (1/14/08) happened to be a year to the date that I was due with my baby girl. I continually thought about it yesterday and how I was feeling one year ago. So, this LO is from the heart... :love2:

Here is the LO I did for my album. I really can't see myself using the "new font" product for this challenge, so went with the DSP Sunny font from the Jan. 08 club digital which I just love, and have used numerous times already this month. I konw I won't be in the drawing, but that's okay, as I would rather like the font I use on my LO's. I did use the Tussy Mussy pk and the quick click bonus for my LO.

Suzanne,
i think in an early post you mentioned that the quick click would allow us to have some consistency in our pages over the year, so our 24 page book would look wonderful.
I am scrapping my new baby boy - so I was wondering if the consistency would be around the layouts and thus I could change some of the colors to something more boy-ish or if the consistency was to use the color pallette of Mussy Tussy and the quick click. I apologize if thinking about changing the colors is against the rules, but was wondering if I could and if it would make my pages inconsistent with the rest of the months.

Thanks

I think for those wondering about the kit, font, etc - basically, Suz wants us to create a layout using the featured product (kit, font, etc) but it doesn't have to be our actual album - for one thing, I am going to use a very neutral kit to use for my actual album to help with consistency and up to three fonts. The layouts that put us in running for the handwriting font are just separate layouts - we get freebies if we use the products also!
Hope that helps anyone!

ScrapMel
01-18-2008, 08:37 AM
Oh, I thought I would share how I am going about it - I do layouts for the freebies and to be in the drawing for the font (I WANT THAT FONT!!!!!)
But I am using the free QC to place pics of the month - at some point I will pick a kit to stick with for the year (I still haven't decided 100% what I will use) but for each month I will make sure to place photos -so that come Nov, Dec - I just have to add papers, embellies, etc.

I'm not sure what I am going to be able to do. That Quick Click is kicking my PSE's b... It took almost 2 hours just to add the papers & some journaling last night. I tried to save it for the web so I could at least upload something for this week, but PSE couldn't handle it. I'm going to try again with the Organizer closed, but if that doesn't work, !!!!! I guess I need to redo the Quick Click into 2 separate layouts. Man, I hate to do that because of all the time I have invested in this one. Suz, I did purchase the font so I may just have to use it on something else to post.

Are we supposed to use this same Quick Click for the entire year?

EmmaJean
01-18-2008, 02:51 PM
Here's my LO with the font. It's just a LO that's going into my '08 album, not one specifically using the QC. I think I'll do that at the end of the month.

This is how I do it Kim ..First you must unzip the file ! Then go to "start" at the bottom left of your screen > control panel >fonts>instal new font > where you have downloaded it> select all > okay ! It automatically instals it to your fonts. Let me know if you're still battling ..

Jennifer, check out this thread. http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29157 Kim just asked the same question and hopefully one of the answers will work for you. You don't necessarily need a font manager to install it. Emma has the answer to that. Or if you still need help you might PM Suzanne.

OK...silly question here. But how do you access the font once it is downloaded? I purchased, extracted the files, and now what?
TIA!!!!!!

This is what I do (I use Windows XP Service Pack 2)

Click on & highlight the .ttf font file, hit Ctrl-C which saves it to your clipboard
Click on Start>Control Panel>Fonts
Right click on Fonts
Click on Paste
It's done!

OR

you could go straight to Explore and drag the .ttf file into the Windows/Fonts folder where it will automatically install itself.

I've tried a couple things that people suggested in another thread and they aren't working...one of them being copying the ttf file and pasting it into the font file.

dawn...can you tell me what you mean by explore and dragging it right into the file? Thought I would try that but I can't figure out the explore part.

Thanks!!

OK...this has been a frustrating challenge....I had two problems. the first is I bought the font but can't get it to work. So I journaled with a font that I had. the second problem is that I can't save my page for the web. I use the QC freebie from last week, did it as a 12 by 24 page and I get a message that it is two large to save for the web.

So, I feel like I got nothing accomplished for this challenge. )O:

Go ahead and save it for the web anyway - it is basically telling you it might take a while, but it will save for the web - be patient!

Penny M
01-20-2008, 07:36 PM
Jennifer, my PSE said the same thing but it will save it. It will just be slower. In the future I am going to make a left page 12 x 12 and a right page 12 x 12 out of the quick click so I don't have the problems with the one I did 12 x 24. Just send a private message to Suzanne and she will help you with the font.

01-20-2008, 07:40 PM
OK, thanks ladies!!! I will go save it now. I have been talking with others in another thread about getting the fonts to work and it still is being a big 'ole pain!

Speaking of two page spreads...how do you print them and fit them in an album? I did another two page spread but it wasn't with QC it was just two pages with the same kit and I will put them next to each other in the album.

Thanks again, keeping my fingers crossed!

[QUOTE=emandlivsmom;406956]OK, thanks ladies!!!

Thanks again, keeping my fingers crossed![/QUOTE

Somebody had suggested in a thread once to make the layouts in 8 x 8 and now that I do that it seems to be much faster and easier. I'm assuming that after I'm done with the layout that I can resize it back to 12 X 12. I will eventually print them up at shutterfly in a hardcover album. I just have to wait until I have enough pictures for a full album.

I hope you figured out the font problem. My problem was that I unzipped it and then tried to upload all of the folders. When I realized this and just upload the font file it worked out OK.

THAT is a fabulous description!!! THANK YOU!!! I might just steal your explanation, if you don't mind......?

To Kim1989 and emandlivsmom ... you asked about two page spreads. The few that I have done, I do as two separate pages, so just print them as two separate pages. Then when they do go into an album, just make sure they are on facing pages.

Kim, you made a comment about doing pages at 8x8 and sizing UP to 12x12. Personally, I do everything 12x12, and can size DOWN to print. The problem with sizing up is you might lose the quality of some things because of resolution.

And on fonts, I keep seeing references to dragging and dropping/copy and paste your TTF font files. I have always "installed" the font. I was under the impression that by installing, it somehow registered the font so Windows was "aware" of all the fonts and where they were.

To do this, I go to Control Panel > Fonts (you now should see a list of all your installed fonts), then go to File > Install New Font. From here navigate to the directory where you have the font file, select the font and click OK. I also have the box for "Copy Fonts to Font Folder" checked (indicating YES). Then, no question Windows should know where all the fonts are. Whatever you downloaded will still be where you downloaded it (for back-up, etc), but now everything should be where windows needs to find it.

Kathleen - I do everything exactly as you have described here!!! Rather than just dragging a font file to my fonts folder, I also open Contol Panel > Fonts and use the File > Install New Fonts method.

I also do all of my layout pages at 12 x 12 and currently print at 8 x 8, but if I ever decide to print professionally at 12 x 12....or if I get a wide format printer.....I can always re-print the layout at a larger size. As you said, sizing down is no problem, but sizing up can have an impact on the quality of the print.

I have a question about the resizing. I'm new to digi scrapping and started with
12 x 12 layouts. When I started using some kits (especially quick clicks) I noticed that they didn't fit on the 12 x 12 page. When I resized to 8 x 8 it fit perfectly. I originally thought those kits were made for 12 x 12. Am I doing something wrong? I am going to be printing on 12 x 12 so I would rather stick with that format altogether.

Hey, Kim, I'm not exactly sure what might be happening for you, but I do know that the 8x8 page in 300 dpi is the same dimensions as the 12x12 in 200dpi - I wonder whether your original was in 300 instead of 200? Not sure, but we can walk through it together if you'd like - holler at me! :) :)

Well, I have had family challenges that have kept me from getting in on the beginning of this challenge. :( :( If I have time, I'll try to catch up or jump in! Meanwhile, I did use the font this week, and thought I'd share...

Hey, girlie, did I already holler at you to tell you to JUMP RIGHT INNNNN!!!! You can still be eligible for the handwriting font if you use the four featured products for the month (you'll just miss out on the free posting bonuses for the week(s) that you missed if that makes sense)... :) :)
