i didn't even realize i didn't have the newest version til i saw debi take a screenshot and had GUIDELINES! i've wanted those for SO long! doh!
i've said repeatedly i use this program so often, more than daily, more than hourly, more like minutely. :D and i love it, but would love to see exactly where i'm starting so i can get it just perfect and now i can! the download we offer right here on the site has the newest version. yay! i'm diggin' it!!

Gosh Margie, how did you use it w/o guidelines?? And yes, I use mine several times a day most days!

ah, i just developed quite a talent. some people can scrap, but i can take awesome screenshots of their pages. :D but i did have many do-overs a day, so i'm a happy, happy camper!

guidelines? What exactly are they?

I use TechSmith SnagIt

But I'm not sure what guidelines are in this context. I love mine best for the big red arrows and text I can draw!

you just hit print screen (or whatever your shortcut is) and you get horiz and vert guidelines so you can start your screenshot in the perfect spot.

ah, yes, I never thought about that. I get a little pop up magnifier with guides that show me exactly why I'm getting, zoomed in, plus my crosshair cursor on the actual spot I'm shooting, and I agree it's a must have feature! Can't tell what you're getting otherwise! Man, SH used to just grab the whole screen, no partials allowed! It's come a long way. Now if Hello would allow that, I'd be in Heaven! I often SnagIt my stuff, then hello that preview window, LOL!

I know it's asking a lot, but does it allow timed & automatic screenshots?

it does timed! i don't know what you mean by automatic though. :) it lets you choose the area, the active window, or your full screen.

I suppose timed an automatic are the same thing. :) Thank you!

it doesn't do intervals if that's what you mean by auto. I don't think SnagIt does either, maybe. Adobe Captivate does.
