Okay, I've just jumped in with both feet here and am having a great time! I've figured out how to make just about everything I want to, but I just can't figure out the bows and tied ribbons. How the heck do you do those? I have PSE 3.0 right now, but will be getting PS CS soon, I hope. Can I do them in PSE?

The other thing is about text. Can you not wrap text in PSE or PS? I have to do my text one line at a time. Is there an easier way? I know several of you have done journaling that has many lines and I'm guessing you know another way, but I haven't figured it out, yet. I guess I could do it in Word and do a screen shot into PSE, but that seems like a hassle.

Any tips or tricks are appreciated!

Hi!

I have no idea because I was just coming to here to ask a very similar question! But congrats on learning stuff so fast - that's great! I feel like I'm going to be a beginner for just about ever!

I hope this doesn't hijack your question... I'm wondering if there is a way to align/center text within a selected area in PSE. I'm sure there is, I just haven't figured it out yet!

Thanks!

I just enter manual line breaks, the same way you would on a typewriter. If the spacing between the lines isn't right, I use a separate text box for each line.

Bows and Tied ribbons are one of the hardest things to make. If you are going to be getting PSCS, I would suggest taking Lauren's classes for creating embellishments. She is the queen and her classes are wonderful! You CAN do them in PSE - but they are even harder with the limited layer style functions.

In PS you can wrap text, in PSE you can't.

I'm not sure I'm understanding your question. When you in text mode, you can choose to align right, left, or center. If you are wanting to align you text on the center of your page or centered with something else - PSE doesn't have this function and you'll just have to eyeball it. Richard Lynch has a great newletter and book and I think he has found a work around for this. There is a link to his site in our links section.

Okay, bows are in Lauren's DSU 311 class, and they take awhile! Lots of bending and cutting. Definitely take both those classes, they'll really help you out. But you have to have PS for them.

For ribbons, flat, I cover them in my DSU 160 PSE intro class, and more in depth in my DSU 261 PSE page elements class. There's no PSE version of 311 yet, will be awhile before that's out if I write it

For text, you have to hit Enter, a hard line break for text wrapping. To adjust the line spacing, use the Leading and up that. To adjust the space between letters, you have to use the Space Bar. I don't like text in PSE much, PSP is a little better, PS is really king there for options.

To align text in PSE, you have to eyeball as Amanda said. In PS, you link it with the layer you want to center it over and use the Move Tool, click the Align Center icon in teh Options Bar at the top.
The Richard Lynch workaround for alinging in PSE is on his CD. It has patches that give some more "programming" to PSE and includes useful options like masks, quick mask, alignment, etc. I don't know if it increases text options like wrapping or spacing/kerning.

Good for you for tackling this! Let me know by email if you'd like to sign up for a class, and we'll send you a reminder when registration is open. click the link in my sig line to see the list

good job! NOw let us see some o' those layouts!

Thanks Amanda & Emma!

Good to know that I wasn't missing something obvious, but bad that I have to trust my eyeballs! This from the girl who can't draw a straight line with a ruler. :D

Always trust your eyeballs, if YOU think it looks good, then I LOVE it! I promise I won't get a ruler :)

To make it easier, however, go to View>Grid then View>Snap to Grid and things will snap to the grid if they get close to the line. I think there's also a View>Rulers, but maybe only in PS. You can use Snap to Grid even if the Grid isn't visible too. Turn it off if you wan to be very precise moving things just a little, or it'll just snap wherever it wants to go! This applies to the Move Tool, drawing tools, Crop tool, Marquee, whatever

If you use PS, you can also drag guidelines off the rulers to line things up, and use View>Snap or View>Snap To and pick one of the choices. Or just use the Move Tool alignment icons.

hth, happy scrapping
