Tina and I are working on maybe having a crop April 26th in Maysville KY. Easily accessible from Lexington, KY Florence KY, Cincinnati, OH, Portsmouth OH, and even from small burgs inbetween, LOL!

Just wondering how many we have from these general areas, and what the interest would be!

Post here if you're interested! We're not firm on that date, just that it can't be BEFORE that date :)

Update!!
:yahoo: We're Booked :yahoo:

April 26 2008
10AM to 4PM

Bring your laptop or Desktop if you so desire!

Plan to have fun, chat, and meet some friends!

Event location:

Orangeburg Community Center/Fire Department
8002 Day Pike
Maysville, KY 41056

This is directly off the AA Highway, also called Rt 9. The building is East of Maysville. It can easily be seen from the AA Highway. It will be on the left hand side of the AA Highway. I noticed on Mapquest it's still calling Rt 9 546, which was it's name long long ago, LOL!

From Cincinnati Direction:
The only major road I know is the 275 outerbelt, LOL! Lucky for me, the AA Highway intersects 275 at Wilder, KY ;) Just get on the AA and head towards Maysville, which as I recall all the signs say is South.

From Lexington Direction:
Catch 68 North to Maysville. The AA crosses 68 in Maysville. Turn RIGHT at that intersection, and follow the AA until you see the building.

I will draw out a little map over the weekend and post it here so it's a little easier to follow visually.

Hotels locally:

Hampton Inn
606-759-0600
Only been open a couple of years. Closest to Orangeburg Community Center. Unknown on wifi access. About 12 minutes from the Community Center. 10 if you speed :p My parents stayed there and said accomadations were excellent.

French Quarter
606-564-8000
Located in dowtown Maysville, approximately 15-20 minutes from the Community Center. Sits right on the river and has a wonderful view. Very nice accomadations, or so I've been told. Has free wifi.

Best Western
606-759-5696
Have heard some complaints from folks who have stayed there, but no first hand experience. I'm just throwing it out as a possible because its there :)

Hotels in Lexington and Florence KY would be about an hour from the site, and any in Cincinnati on the South East side would be about an hour also. Throwing that out for consideration, as Maysville is a small place, so not much exciting to do at night except watch the stars or the river go by! There are some local bars and watering holes, but I don't frequent any, so can't recommend any, sorry!

I am working on an internet connection at the Community Center, so hopefully I'll be able to pull that one off

I'm in at least in my opinion. I'm about 2 1/2 hours away. I'll have to lug my desktop with me since I don't have a desktop, however it would be completely worth it to meet some of my fellow DSPers. Isn't Suzanne somewhere in Indiana?

It's a three hour trip for me from Indiana, but I'm really interested in it. I don't have a laptop either, but from what I've heard, you don't really need to have one to attend the crop. And it's after tax time, so there's another reason to celebrate!

01-30-2008, 06:42 AM
Melissa, would you be willing to go if you only had part way to drive? I am thinking about going and maybe Pam(wuzzygirl) too? I just saw this so I will have to point her in this direction and let her answer for herself!!

well, I HAVE a laptop, but its old and sad, and doesnt have PSCS2 on it. I'm afraid if I tried to put it on there, it'd give up the ghost! LOL! I'll take it, but don't know I'll get much scrapping done anyway!

Lori and I have fun planned, and DSP prizes too :D

The I think the covington- Cincinnati would be the closest I think

Tina
01-30-2008, 07:12 PM
Marilyn, the closest airport is still an hour and a half away. The Great Cincinnati International Airport is in Covington, Ky (aka CVG). Don't ask why the "Cincinnati" airport is in Kentucky. We have no idea. lololol!!! I doubt you'd find a 'cheap' flight tho, as it was recently named the most expensive airport in the country.

Louisville Ky is much much cheaper, but is 2.5 hrs from Maysville.

kydeb
01-30-2008, 08:04 PM
Marilyn, the Lexington airport would be an option too and I live in Frankfort KY. Maybe if you fly into that airport, we can work something out.

01-30-2008, 09:40 PM
Well I can't PROMISE this because I don't know hubby's schedule as yet, but possibly I could send him (oops I mean ask him;) ) to the Lexington airpoirt to run a shuttle back to the crop if there's really going to be some want to fly in. I'd come myself, but I'll be tied up getting the crop room ready! I will check with him and see if he has anything himself that day.

Or maybe if someone from that area is coming, they'd be willing to do a pickup maybe?

Bwaaahaaaa Tina!

Crop will be slightly East of Maysville at the Orangeburg Community Center. Located right off the AA highway with plenty of good parking! Looks like there's enough interest, so I'm going to go ahead and see if I can book the building for that April 26th date. If it's not available, I'll move to the following weekend!

Stay tuned for a date and time confirmation!

Thanks for all of the info ladies. I should have checked my calendar first. I was a little too excited. My niece is having her first communion that day. Boo hoo.

I was thinking of hosting a crop sometime this summer, maybe August at my country club. We'd only have to pay for the food. I could try to arrange it so that spouses and kids could come and golf, swim and play tennis. (There would be a fee for activites. I know swimming is $5.) Any thoughts?

what size is a business card? thats the size I'm thinking. That sounds right, doesn't it for business cards?

diturpin
03-13-2008, 10:38 AM
Business cards are 2x3 1/2. 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 would be a little bit larger. You can print and cut 12 BC (2x3 1/2) out of a letter size piece of paper. (Can you tell I used to work for a printer - Business Cards Expresss!)

diturpin
03-13-2008, 10:41 AM
Trading cards (like baseball) are a little larger - They may be 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 - not sure.

kydeb
03-13-2008, 02:51 PM
I think the 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 is like a baseball card. I think that's why the ATCs are that size - they're like baseball trading cards.

Clooney to Screen New Movie in Ky.
Wednesday, March 19, 2008 11:53:51 AM
By BRUCE SCHREINER

For one night, Maysville will be Hollywood along the Ohio River, thanks to George Clooney.

The 46-year-old actor-director will visit the northern Kentucky town Monday night for a special screening of his new movie, "Leatherheads," his father, Nick Clooney, said Tuesday.

"The whole town is abuzz," said Maysville Mayor David Cartmell.

Clooney, who won an Oscar for his role in "Syriana," grew up in the town of Augusta, about 16 miles west of Maysville.

The setting has special significance for the Clooney family. In 1953, "The Stars Are Singing," starring Rosemary Clooney, George Clooney's aunt, premiered in Maysville.

"He knows all about that, and he is very interested in kind of connecting the dots as far as family history," Nick Clooney said. "He thinks that would be kind of cool for the family, and one hopes for the town, too."

Nick and Rosemary Clooney were born in Maysville. George Clooney was born in Lexington, and the family moved several times before settling in Augusta.

"Leatherheads," which also stars Renee Zellweger, is a romantic comedy set in the world of 1920s professional football. The film will be in theaters April 4.

The movie will be shown at the Washington Opera Theatre, Nick Clooney and Universal Studios said Tuesday.

Cartmell said Monday night's screening will probably be the biggest event in the town of about 9,000 since the premiere of "The Stars Are Singing."

It will also be the hottest ticket in town.

Nick Clooney said about 300 seats will be available. The opera house seats about 450 people, but equipment needed to show the movie will take up space in the balcony, he said.

Cartmell said he expects the town to catch Hollywood fever.

"Next week, we'll be Hollywood on the Ohio," he said.

I was going to show my total ignorance and ask what a webkinz was, but web savvy prevailed in the form of google:

You can find Webkinz plush toys at the following locations:

DAWAHARES
BLUEGRASS SHOPPING CTR, 1136 US HWY 68 SOUTH MAYSVILLE KY 41056 606.563.0805

KIRLIN'S HALLMARK
MARKET SQUARE S/C, 407 MARKET SQUARE DR. MAYSVILLE KY 41056 606.759.9127
TRENDY TURTLE
9 W 2ND ST MAYSVILLE KY 41056 606.564.7702

We suggest you call ahead to ensure that the Webkinz or Lil Kinz plush toy that you are looking for is available.

Shows my generation gap, I guess!

Oh well my goodness, we may have to reschedule the crop so as not to interfere with Webkinz Day  Not a chance!!

Sooooo,

A few of us have been talking about going out for dinner after the crop. If you are interested, please let me know. I need a rough number so I can call some places and see who can handle a walk in of whatever size we may have.

We have not decided on a place yet, but the options are DeShas, Bob Evans, Capronis, or Applebees. All have multi-selection menus, so most everyone could find something to eat at any of these locations.

Just post if you're in for dinner!!

For the crop, we're going to all chip in and order pizza/drinks for lunch. We'll be providing drinks in the form of Lemonade, Iced Tea, water, and coffee. Pop machines are available at the Community Center if you prefer that. We'll also have a few prepackaged snacks. Anyone who wants to bring prepackaged chips, cookies, snacks, etc is welcome to, if you have a perosonal favorite!

Okay, before I print my ATCs, I'm confused on the size. I made mine 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 like baseball trading cards and the ATC info in the DSP thread. Is that right or do I need to resize them to business card size? Could someone please post a final decision on this? I know it may be someone in this thread but I can't seem to find it. Thanks!!

Tina
04-21-2008, 10:41 AM
Deb, I did mine business card sized just b/c they'd be easier to print. Margie said the name tag holders we are using are 2.5x3.5 and she's made her cards that size. Mine will just be skinny! LOL!!! At least something about me will be ;)

You are golden @ 2.5x3.5!

OK, we have a reservation for 20 at Tumbleweeds for 5:00PM. We're in the alcove which is an area off to the side, so hopefully we can get somewhat wild and not disturb anyone else, LOL!

I chose Tumbleweed because its close to the Hallmark so anyone wanting to do Webkinz Extravagnza day can easily run over there if they want before dinner! We're coming down tomorrow. Neilston isn't sure what time he is leaving work tomorrow. I think it needs to be real early since he has driven to Dayton two days in a row.

We did a picnic and long walk tonight, so I didn't get an early start on transferring stuff to Neilston's laptop which means I more than likely won't be bringing it. He offered to pack up my clunky desktop, but I don't think that's an option I'll go for either.

Baking the cookies and packing tomorrow while the kids are at school. Eban's dogsitters will be here right after the kids get home from school, so I will be ready to leave immediately when Neilston gets home. We're at the Hampton under Neilston Byrd. The Hampton's # is 606-759-0600.

Got to get moving--need more coffee. Today I'm going to the museum and see what genealogy I can find!

I'll post a little later to see what's happening tonight if anything...I still have a layout deadline to meet.

LOLOL! crackin me up that you are excited by trains and barges! If you are into history, you can travel across to Ripley, Ohio. It's about 15 mins away maybe? Anyway, you can check out the Rankin House which was a stop on the Underground Railroad.

Getting ready to take the kids to school, so I can pack and more important bake the cookies. Neilston's best guess right now for leaving work is 3:30 which means we probably won't leave the house until 5 because for whatever reason it takes us about 1 - 1 1/2 hours to leave the house for a trip even when everything is done. It drives me crazy because I'm usually sitting in the van waiting for him and the dynamic duo. All that said we more than likely won't be there until 9ish when you figure in eating dinner which I'd like to do with some of you, however it'll be too late. See you all tomorrow morning!

Got my ATCs printed and almost finished cutting them out. Can't believe the crop is tomorrow!!

Change of plan on the drinks - I ended up getting cans - Pepsi was on sale at WalMart so I got regular Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Diet Dr. Pepper, some Sprite Zero (coke product) and some bottled water. I hope that there is something in there that suits everyone.

See you guys soon!!

Woo hoo! Z is getting close! Just talked to her again while she gave me a verbal tour of where they were while I tried to figure it out so I could get them pointed in the right direction again! The brown barn, twisted tree, and red tractor she described didn't help me much

And she gave me a hard time becasue the grass wasn't blue! I assured her it was 'cause we hadn't had much rain yet

I cannot WAIT to meet her!

I'm getting so excited with people town already and others getting ready to leave soon! Woot woot

And it certainly sounds like we're going to have waaaaaay to much snacks, LOL! Hope no one is on a diet, 'cause it's gonna get blown

Diet?? Isn't that a four letter word on weekends anyway?

I made it past the barn, crooked tree but the tractor was green! I had forgotten just how many horse farms are around Lexington! Gorgeous country but the horse farms look like a lot of hard work keeping them looking as pretty as they do.

I didn't realize how much history was up around this area. My daughter will go nuts when she hears about all the underground railroad stuff. I'll probably have to bring her back sometime to see the sights. She has always been fascinated with the underground railroad. She did a book report on Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1st or 2nd grade and has been hooked ever since.

Been out tramping around already and found the community center, but thanks for the directions anyway. I've got a big bowl of kisses - the hershey's kind - and I'll bring what I don't eat tonight! LOL!

Re: the directions - past the barn, etc. I actually went to a party one time out in the country and the guy that had it wrote the directions like that ..... take a left at the cornfield next to the cowfield with the black and white cow, right at the old chevy sitting next to the trailer, etc. It was a hoot and actually was the easiest directions I ever followed!!

Oh I LOVED Linda at the WK store!!!! She learned they were giving free ones for a purchase and said, "GET OUT OF HERE!" The employee did offer to clock out; she'd been there dealing with grown WK fans all day!!!

I wanted to box you all up and take you home with me; it was so fun! And all the kids are just darling! I can't wait to scrap some of those; will definitely share any and all photos I have!

We bought three webkinz and got three free. I got a googles, frog, and chocolate lab. My girl got a cocker spaniel, leopard, and cow. I got some trading cards but had such an exciting day I am so sleepy at the hotel and only got one pet logged in for her - the cocker pup who she named Ginger.

Hugs and love to all who were there and to those who missed it we wish you hadn't!

Oh dear...I SO wish I could have met more of you guys! I had car trouble, then got super lucky and had a wonderfully sweet friend of mine give me a ride to Maysville. LOL, BUT...we got lost, and by the time we finally got ahold of Tina, the crop was over. So we met up at the Webkins thing-a-ma-jig (now keep in mind I had NO intentions of getting caught up in THAT whole sort of thing) but, LOL Free is...well...FREE and yes I did say to the cashier GET OUTTA HERE when she said we could choose a free one, LOL. And yes, she did indeed tell me that if I say so, her day is just about over anyway, LOL.
Anyways, with a free Lion from Su-Zu (thats what Sydney calls Susan) and a free Cow from my own purchase, well this morning and today all Syd says is We-kins...LOL! We named the cow, MissyMooMoo and the lion, SiggyRoy (because he looks like the Sigfried and Roy lions at the zoo :) Very cool all this shopping for stuff at the site. Siggy already has half his room decorated, and really cool threads on, hahaha.
Then me and my friend Susan (I always tell her she reminds me of Jenny McCarthy, don't you agree Scamp, Tina and Z?) got to have dinner with some of you and it was a blast.
Hey, I don't care what anyone says...if you can get a wedge of lettuce instead of a dinner salad, GO for it! Photos to come later for those of you wondering what in the world is she talking about.
Oh drat it all, I so hate I missed the crop. Looks like it was a fabulous time from the looks of the photos I have seen already, but am SO glad I got to at least be in on the Webkins and Dinner.

...and hey! Possibly working on a crop for the fall a bit closer to Cincinnati....the Ky. side of Cincinnati that is...will post more details later.
