Hi everyone! I'm a newbie digi scrapper. Tonight I'm playing around in PSE2 and am [ ] this close to having created a "glass" stone. I've used the shape tool to make my oval shape. I've added color. I'ved added a bevel. And it looks pretty good, if I do say so myself :p

What I'd like to do is make it look like "glass". Maybe even a transparent effect where I could place the "stone" over a word on a layout.

Anyone have any ideas what I can do next?

Thanks!

Joy

Joy,

Here is a link that talked about making a transparent soap bubble element.
Maybe you can gather enough info from it to help you out on your question!

That's exactly what I'm trying to achieve, but I'm working with PSE2 and am not able to translate the instructions to work.

If anyone knows of a tutorial like this for PSE2...please let me know :-)

Thanks!!!!

okay, I hafta say that I love Googling tutorials, that's a good one, Tracy/Haley ;) but I think you're better off on this one downloading a layer style that'll do it. try www.share.studio.adobe.com (http://share.studio.adobe.com/axAssetDetailSubmit.asp?aID=10484&back=http%3A%2F%2Fshare%2Estudio%2Eadobe%2Ecom%2Fa xQuickSearchSubmit%2Easp%3Ftxt%3Dglass%26allprods% 3D2%26submit1%2Ex%3D32%26submit1%2Ey%3D6)
That's a link to a glossy style set. just save in your Program Files>Adobe>Adobe PSE 3>Presets>STyles folder and restart PSE to use it from your Styles palette.

Or, try to use the Wow Plastic clear style instead. That makes a good bubble. Holler back if you need more help!

Anyone else have any suggestions for where to get styles or make bubbles/glass stones? Thanks!

OH! Forgot to mention, those two tutorials Tracy posted, especially the first one, I can help you translate into PSE. I'm a software junkie ;) Just let me know which approach you like best: the first tut, the second, or the styles, adn we'll walk you through it

Trace: did you post your layout with your PSP bubble on it? I don't think I saw it and I wanna see :) tfs!

Emma,

No I just played with doing the glass tut that day! I have to spend a few days finding and scanning in photo's so I can scrap some more!
I have photo's of all my kids in the bathtub!!

You're right about googling...Can't beat finding out how you want to do something on a search for it. I have read more then I will every remember!
Here's my gallery hoping to get more in there soon!

I really appreciate the effort you've given to help me find this information. :D

Emma, if you can, I'd love for you to translate those initial tuts into PSE for me.

I did use the Wow Plastic Clear Effect but when I put it over on a page over "color" it has a white halo.

You guys are good Googlers. I googled and didn't come up with anything I could use.

Thanks again!

Joy,

Last night when I googled Pse2, I almost reponded to the forum about how little was out there for PSE2!!!
When I have heard about all the great support and place for the program, but then I did a search on Adobe PSE2 glass tutorials and that changed the WHOLE idea in the search!!
I 'think' it was by adding "Adobe" to my search phrase!

I didn't get a chance to try anything out this weekend as I ended up sick instead. Hopefully, in the next night or two I'll get a chance to figure it out. When I do, I'll share what I'm able to produce.

Thanks so much everyone!

Joy

I did use the Wow Plastic Clear Effect but when I put it over on a page over "color" it has a white halo.Hope you're feeling better soon. To minimize that white halo, go to the Layers Palette and double click the little f icon to open the Style Settings dialogue, and change the Outer Glow Distance to zero. You can't eliminate it, you'll have to download a style that doesnt include that attribute. There's another work around, but it takes a little time to explain. YOu have to make a selection like the object, merge the layer with a blank layer to flatten the style, then invert the seletion and cut to remove any styles OUTSIDE like drop shadow or outer glow.

That's shown in my DSU 261 class starting next month, and lots of other ways to get some cool effects.

hth, let us know how it goes!

I made a "glass stone"! I feel like such an idiot for not having figured this out before. I have to admit that I found it on my own. Its amazing what happens when you simply start thinking through the process a little more completely before throwing the towel and going to look for help.

I'm uploading the layout to my gallery (my first post!). This page is part of my Colorado vacation album that I (finally!) started yesterday. I love this digital sb'ing "thang"...I've whipped out 5 pages in the time it would have taken to do ONE! Of course, I was always a slow scrapper. Not anymore!! :D

Thanks for all your help ladies!

Glad you got it. Was thinking about you tonight, creating tons of glass styles for my PSE 361 class, and showing how to adjust the native PSE styles to get glass pebbles and bubbles and such.

I include all the styles in the class, with some other fun freebies too! Glad you got it by breaking the task down. My entire Lesson 4 is about that, the thought proces used to create things, rather than just following tutorials without generalizing the principles to apply to other tasks. Nice work!

I am using PSE 4.0 and found a simple way to make a glass pebble.

I first create a layer with what I want under the pebble (either text or an image). Then I create a new layer. Draw a white circle or oval depending on what shape you want the pebble to be. I then apply the layer style "Simple Emboss" which is in the Bevels group. I next apply the "Ghosted" layer style which is in the Visibility group. You may want to play with the bevel amount. The last thing I do is to adjust the opacity. I set my value to around 50%.
