Featured Designer Challenge by Cathie and Formby (the Luvaducks)

Who's up for the Featured Designer Challenge for February?
The featured designer this month is Elizabeth Weaver.

This challenge uses, exclusively, items from the Designer of the Month featured in the DSP Monthly Newsletter. The products used can be purchased or from the freebie gallery, but everything used on your layout must be from the featured designer. (No items from pre-designer days, such as SNL kits, etc.)

You earn a posting bonus for doing 5 layouts and another one for doing 10 layouts. Please PM CathieMarie when you have completed 5 and 10 layouts to receive the posting bonus. In addition, there is a random draw for a free page kit at the end of the month.

Regarding the question on WA, the rule is, if the Featured Designer has less than 5 WA products in the store then we are allowed to use WA from another designer. So yes we may use WA from other designers since Elizabeth doesn't have any specific WA kits in the store.

The same goes for Alphas - Elizabeth can you confirm if you have more than 5 Alphas in the store please. If you do then we can only use Elizabeths Alpha kits.

I am wondering about the Instant Albums made from kits on CDs created by other designers... the credits always say DSP Designers or one of the seniors.

Hi Mars...

If a designer has created an instant album from kits by other designers, I'm going to say no, it should not count for this challenge... which is too bad elizabeth has done some great work!

If a designer creates an IA with her own stuff, that's fine.

If you are using a designers kit from a CD or Club Dig and it is credited to that designer, I am going to say that is okay.

But no on the IAs unless someone can convince me otherwise.

HOLY MOLY DAWN! That's quite a lot of work you've put into that list!!!!!!! I'm exhausted just reading it!!! Not to mention I feel terribly guilty for not already having something similar. Wow.

I have only one alpha in the store, I think - so alpha away with others'!

As to the posting bonuses, I am working on something new for you, actually. BUT, I have to wait until Lauren gets home to approve them. Seeing Elisabeth did the designing of the IAs how about letting people use them if they want to but not count any points towards the 'most of'? Would that work? They could still be added to with her own kits/stuff and it does seem a shame for them to go to waste as you say.

I calculate that you have 26 points for those LO's you've posted Ethyl. But, read the rules carefully cos there are ways to get extra points too.

Ethyl it's 5 pts for the first time you use a kit, not per layout.

Ethyl, every month there is also a 'bonus' kit which gives you double pts every time you use it. This month it is Midnight Dreams kit. The first time you used it would be 10 pts instead of 5 and 2 pts for every subsequent use. You can also give yourself 5 pts for every featured designer chat you attend. Just something to note for this or future featured challenges. :)

Oh my gosh, Ethyl, you did make a run on the store! Um, my camera lens fund thanks you! Okay so I don't really have a fund for it but I want a lens like Lauren has, the all in one; then I don't have to stop and change to my telephoto.

Even if you don't use them all this month I hope you get round to them eventually! I dug out some things I hadn't used and got some new stuff and I think I've done close to 20 layouts this month and participated in some of the other challenges around here and it's been so fun! Some months I don't get many done, but I found myself on a roll recently. I really really really like this job when I get to scrap a lot of layouts as well as design!

I am learning some serious lessons on this challenge:

1 - Don't delete the contact sheets for your kits just to save space (They're invaluable in choosing elements, especially if you have the kit, the aop and the matching freebies!)

2 - Find a way to organize which will allow you to search by designer - I know many folks already do this...but I file all page packs together, all QCs, etc. Now, I've taken to putting each designer's number somewhere in the title....so I can search by number!

Actually, you can wait until the fourth when it's in the store and then choose if you want it or something else; no need to be locked in to something you can't use. I really wanted to join in on Elisabeth's FD challenge this month and I feel bad that in the end life just got in the way.
