I am still learning my program (CS2) and I am wondering if anyone can help me with this.. I just made a layout where I ended up making the entire wordart a green color, which I like... I REALLY would have loved to ONLY make the word "Aunt" that green and left everything else in black... How does one do this? :help:

Here is the layout:

Thanks!

I'm thinking, you need to put your word art on your layout, and select the word you want with your marquee tool and then just recolour as you normally would - control+U brings up the hue, saturation box for you. Hope that helps.

Yes Abby is right - use your magic wand to select just the letters you want to change and then I would use an adjustment layer ( Layer - New Adjustment Layer - hue saturation) - then use the sliders to lighten and adjust the colour as you desire. Using an adjustment layer means that the word art itself is unchanged underneath if you wish to change something else later

Or if you want to have more control over your color, you could do this:

If your word art is on transparent layer you could also make a selection (marquee) just around that word, lock the transparent pixels (left top button on the layers palette with small grid on it) and then you have more than one option:
- draw with your brush over the word - you can make some effects with the brush that way
- Color the word by ctrl+backspace = colors the foreground color or alt+backspace = background color.

If you lock the transparent pixels as above, you dont necessarily have to have a selection for painting with brush if the words arent too close, just be careful not to touch the other words.

Other option is you could just select the word, ctrl+shift+j = cut and place in the new layer, lock the transparency (as above) and then color it the same way. This way you can move it around and you can recolor it later without going trough that again.

I hope it helps, if not now Im sure it will come useful sometimes.
Also, I think many users dont use it but the Photoshop help is excelent, every question you might have is answered there. And its just one click away so you dont have to stop working. Try it, its like personal tutor.

Abby & Lauren - If I try to use the "magicwand" it also selects the wording under it since it is one layer - this is wordart from the "scraps of words" CD. Maybe I'm not following completely.

Naala - I'm trying to do what you've said, but still having trouble there as well... Ahhh, this is frustrating! I wonder if I should just forget about it an make my OWN wordart in place of this one. Uggh!

If the letters are all joined together then it will select the whole lot - if they arent joined then you can use the magic wand on each letter - the magic wand will only select the colour you click on - but as I said if the letters are all joined together then it will select the whole lot - in this case you could try the quick selection tool and select use the alt key to unselect the areas that you dont want recoloured. Alternatively you could lock the transparency as Naala mentioned and simply paint over the areas you want recoloured using the paint brush

Alright, I think I will try this again tonight. Thanks everyone... I'll let you know what happens! :)

Because the word 'aunt' is actually written OVER the rest of the word art ... it isn't going to be easy to use a magic wand on. The other words are actually connected in the same color to aunt.

You could zoom in real tight and select OUT (aka de-selecting) (alt key with the magic lasso, manually) a DMZ between the letters in 'aunt' and the other letters in the word art. Once you get aunt isolated, you can use your magic wand to remove the rest of the letters in it (alt key with the magic wand), leaving only the word 'aunt' selected.

Once you get ONLY that selected, you can easily manipulate it, or move it to it's own layer (layers/New Layer/by cut or by copy) and then use the Image/Adjustment of your choice on it.

The selection is going to be the difficult part of this one because it's the same color as the words it overlaps.

But you can do it!!

If you have a tablet, sometimes these type of detailed selections are easier.

Keep us posted.

Thank you all for your wonderful help! I did learn a lot through this process, but I had a HORRIBLE time trying to do this... I do have a wacom pen tablet, but when I did get it partly colored (the "aunt" to green and the rest black) I wasn't sure if I really liked it after all. So this is what I ended up doing ... tell me what you think...

To answer your question (which has disappeared), YES, in general, a commercial printer will need to see that you have the rights to print anything you bring in. Trademarks and copyrights are things that printers have been sued (successfully) over, even when they simply reproduced what the copyright/trademark 'infringer' brought them.
